Christians clearly ignore certain restrictive or morally reprehensible commandments in the Old Testament under the rationale that Jesus did away with the "ceremonial" aspects of the Old Testament, but the “morality” is still intact. My question is how do they distinguish between what is "ceremonial" and what is "moral"? They use their own judgment, because the Bible treats the ceremonial and the ritual as equivalent. Hence, their moral compass DOES NOT come from the Bible.

I was going to do a review of St Paul's letter to the Romans on the basis that as it is the favoured reading of bigoted homophobes. I simply assumed that St Paul himself was a homophobic bigot. But when I read it I found that it was a lot more reasonable than I was led to expect. In fact he names criticising homosexuality as a sin. It spoiled my project, but it does prove that bigoted homophobes either don't read the Bible or at least don't read it with much care.

If we're talking about inappropriate sexual behavior, the Bible "straight-bashes" more often than it gay-bashes. The mention of homosexuality in Leviticus also isn't relevant; the passage STARTS with God saying "Speak to the children of Israel"... are we ancient Hebrews? (They weren't even allowed to eat pork, remember?) The Bible doesn't *actually* gay bash.

Really what is your problem? What have I done against you? I understand there´s some insane guys out there (Fred Phelps and his gang) but I swear the rest (and that includes me) are just regular people with jobs and lives. To be honest I couldn´t care less if you´re gay, atheist, agnostic or whatever. I personally don´t judge and just try to live my life. I say a true christian is one is loving to all. This is a very clever argument, and it is delivered in an amusing manner. However, though it will make a great many people chuckle and smile, I don't think that it will sway the minds of many believers, gay or straight.
All one has to do is to look a the "It Gets Better" series to see just how many religious figures there are that are in it who are supportive to and caring for the gay community. Gays who are Christian or Jewish are probably going to remain Christian or Jewish.

This is why many Christians get so worked up over allowing gays equal rights, and ignore the bajillion other sins defined in the Bible. If society treats them as equal people will see they are perfectly nice regular people, the Bible saying they are evil is like the Mormons saying having dark skin makes you evil. If I'm correct at catching that as an allusion, maybe this is a reference to how homosexuality could still be genetic, even without a particular gene, like how the potential repulsion by the opposite sex could be the sum of a defense mechanism that protects from conceiving children with disorders, much like that pheromone that warns siblings not to reproduce with each other.

Christians clearly ignore certain restrictive or morally reprehensible commandments in the Old Testament under the rationale that Jesus did away with the "ceremonial" aspects of the Old Testament, but the “morality” is still intact. My question is how do they distinguish between what is "ceremonial" and what is "moral"? They use their own judgment, because the Bible treats the ceremonial and the ritual as equivalent. Hence, their moral compass DOES NOT come from the Bible.

I was going to do a review of St Paul's letter to the Romans on the basis that as it is the favoured reading of bigoted homophobes. I simply assumed that St Paul himself was a homophobic bigot. But when I read it I found that it was a lot more reasonable than I was led to expect. In fact he names criticising homosexuality as a sin. It spoiled my project, but it does prove that bigoted homophobes either don't read the Bible or at least don't read it with much care.

Feel Better Soon!! I usually really enjoy your logic and reasoning, but I think this is slightly flawed. The arcane rules and customs of the old testament were made void when jesus came and 'washed away our sins'. christians like to pick and choose which parts of the bible they believe as a way to justify their own prejudices, but to be dogmatically correct the new testament is the only one which you can validly argue against since its the only one which still applies.

The Bible's mention of homosexuality wasn't about being gay, it was about fornication. Notice the phrase "burned in lust." If we're talking about inappropriate sexual behavior, the Bible "straight-bashes" more often than it gay-bashes. The mention of homosexuality in Leviticus also isn't relevant; the passage STARTS with God saying "Speak to the children of Israel"... are we ancient Hebrews? (They weren't even allowed to eat pork, remember?) The Bible doesn't *actually* gay bash.
