Agreed the original is what its about. But I think all of the people that actualy try to do this song justice all do great work. This is of course excluding the version done by Dinosuar Jr.
Look, Katie Melua's version is prettier but the Cure's grabs you and takes you back to the place where you heard it first. When I hear it I'm back in the 80's with my GF and I can damn near feel that period in my senses.
Sometimes you can take a good painting, interpret it and add your talent to it, make it to a better art. I find this one much more emotional and fitting than the original.
This is beautiful. I love the piano. I sometimes think if the singer plays their own piano accompaniment there is more emotion in the playing, because it is affected by the emotion they feel when singing.
The leadman for the Cure wrote this after a trip with his girlfriend and later would become his wife, in that aspect I just have to respect the original more, because he actually felt the words that he wrote to create a masterpiece. This is a good cover but any artist can re-paint their own version of the Mona Lisa, and I will always love the original more.
@phadde2 I ABSOLUTELY agree. You said that perfectly. And to be honest, I LOVE this version, but no matter what I appreciate the original for everything it is. This song wouldn't exist without the original. :)
if u guys like this song, u should go listen to "The Dance" also by Charlotte Martin. its a wonderful blend of rythm and modern feel. it really makes u want to go dance and cry at the same time! its amazing!!
I have never heard a bad version of this song! Of course my favorite is the original but from dinosaur jr to this they've all been great
