  • Man, I would LOVE to try this out, but I never had an opportunity to do just that (I don't have a flat screen TV).

My dream would not only use this technique for watching TV through a PC and use it as a DVR, but also install some great PC games (I had Ghostbusters, some kind of space shooter and Portal 2 in mind.), have them accessible though the Extras setting, and play them just like a PS3 or Xbox 360 thanks to some USB game controllers. If you excuse me, I got to wipe the drool from my face

  • It's not really video capture. It's a TV tuner, which uses a bandpass filter to select a specific channel that is compositely broadcasted using a modulated RF signal from the cable provider. That is where the true magic happens. Anyway, no one would ever want this unless they had a dedicated home theater PC. It can be badass if you are meaning to use it in that way, but not with a laptop.

  • i love this!!

  • Awsome!!

  • i have a pinnacle 800e tv tuner usb

  • I have a :-

    Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-TD-500

I reloaded my pc and it installed the driver with windowsd update BUT windows media centre says the following:-

'The TV signal can not be configured because a TV tuner was not detected'

Anybody have any ideas? Is there a way to tell MCE in windows 7 which tuner card to use? Its used to work before the reload and SP1 for windows 7.

  • this is SO OLD SCHOOL!use WDTV Live Hub or other Media Box that can connect to the internet..

  • @TigerDirectBlog Man I can't remember how many hours I put into this... renaming everything to VIDEO_TS to get my movies to show up, installing plugins, trying to transcode MKVs on demand bringing my PC to it's knees... blah blah. This is a huge reason why I quite EA to work on our app.

  • is all this free, LIVE TV is free?

  • @feetlover149 No, you have to have a cable provider that actually broadcasts channels to you via the coaxial cable.

  • motherfucker

  • coax cable. lol how old is this shit....

  • I need to know how i record whats going on on my tv i cant find something of it on internet :( someone help?

  • @LIKEBIGSHOTS TiVo might suit you.

  • @schnappy00 Not exactly but thanks to respond anyways.

  • One question:

If im not home, the computer must be on in order to record tv programs?

  • @rub504 Not sure why this is a factor, but since Windows XP Media Center, my PC goes into S3 when not being used, wakes up, records whatever and then returns back to S3 a few minutes after its done. If your concerned about power usage with your PC being on all the time, maybe you should look at other areas to conserve energy or build a PC that doesn't use much power.

  • a vga cable is a standard vga cable, had no idea..

  • epik but dr phill?

  • this guy sure has a boner for media centre, never heard anyone get so excited

  • and the sound ? ♠

  • My WiFi dosent work on MCE! And my PC isnt compatible with Vista (it is, but its way too slow due to low ram).

  • verry convincing voice :))

  • this would be nice if there weren't sooo many fucking cables, just not work the effort

  • @TonicandBionic

    o.0'

i just plug my vga cable and audio cable -.- just like a dvd.

i control the media center via bluetooth ^^

  • 1:49

    1:49

  • lol

  • forget media center, just use a DVI to HDMI cable, and that should work nice.

  • @EdMajinLee199999 Eh? I record tv with Media Center how you going to do that with your laptop connected to it only?

  • @EdMajinLee199999 i have a big crt tv that is conected to a tv signal box(kinda like tivo)trew a scart cable, could i conect my laptop via dvi to hdmi cable to the box? (it has an opening for hdmi) plz reply thx

  • i think u haven't got the video right....u and 29 more too...i also have my tv connected to my pc but i don't have media center with tv yet....IT'S NOT THE SAME!

  • Actually, your right in a sense. Xbox 360 is only one of the devices that can access a computer's Media Center. You can also go out and buy a special box that does the same thing.

  • too many cables and that's because JP Morgan stole the plans for wireless electricity from Nikola Tesla.

  • Explain?

  • I would like to, but 500 characters that Im allowed to type in this box aren't enough. I'll let you type: Nikola Tesla JP Morgan inside google search box and click google search but then is faster if you just press enter key.

  • @elcido172 lol 14 thumbs up for that

  • Some questions:

Is the TV content free ?

    Can you get HBO ?

Can you download new releases if so how much does it cost ?

  • @jmettam

you conect your cable to the pc then conect vga to the tv and you are done.

  • its sick how it works i use it all the time and love it

  • can't you have the info ON the tv? for example a pc card and a pc card slot...

  • isnt there a windows media stand alone... I mean no computer, something like apple tv or something?

  • well, there is such a thing as an windows extender. they can come in many forms. they have one for example at disneyland in innovation station. for me, i use my xbox 360, since its from microsoft, you can use it as an extender. try searching it

  • where you get that cable from,.between coaxial cable and the laptop I need to get one

  • That was a very informative tutorial. To bad you spent 10 seconds on connecting it to the tv. Who cares about Jude Judy the topic was connecting tv to computer.

  • that laptop has so many connections

  • I have a vga/rgb cable. I have vga on my laptop only. the only device that I have that has rgb is my RCA vcr/dvdr. How do I get it to show on my tv through my dvd recorder/vcr?

  • What is tge name of the softwear

  • Why you need to do this Only for watch T.V Thru the computer?

why just don't you watch T.V on your T.V??

  • hello sir, i was just wondering how much all of these cables cost? that was as of 2007 you made this i see, so it might be diffrent now?

also any tips? thanks.. (and please make an updated vid) thanks

  • so what do you need to just be able to watch tv on media center? do you need a tv tuner?

  • can you use s-video cable only?

  • S-video Is low quality cable.

You better use a VGA (normal quality) , DVI (High Quality), HDMI (HD quality).

  • Hmm VGA does not give you HD so if you are looking for something being used now a days you better choose HDMI if you don't know how to install it just call someone who does know how to do it!

  • analog VGA?? no thanks. How about digital DVI or HDMI?

  • this video is from 2007

  • teach me tigertv teach me

  • mac

  • This video is a gigantic fail.

The video capture switch/input that he's showing is almost non-existant on laptops and pc's. LOL, what a joke!

  • this video was made a little over 2 years ago, im sorry they didnt have the same tech as whats around now.

  • they really need to re-upload the videos :(

  • This is retarded...

Not every computer/laptop has that little circle plug in for video capture that you could just plug it into the tv and poof, your hooked up...no

Good advice for those who have that but not for those who dont

  • The program being configured on the TV looks like "TotalMedia." My DTV tuner card came w/ it.

  • can you do this with wireless in any way. Or can you do this easily (no holes in walls) in a different room

  • fail at 1:45 lol

  • lol he looks drunk

  • yess.. hmm

  • good, so get the hdmi cable and connect it to your tv and laptop, when done that on your laptop press fn and f4 to display your laptop on your tv, thats it your done. =D

  • I don't believe that audio jack was a "mini-RCA" I think that was a 3.5mm audio connector

  • 3.5 mm audio = mini-RCA

  • Man, I just got shit on.

  • haha, don't worry about it, I've seen, heard, and read worse.

  • by what?

  • By a butthole.

  • DVI, is way, WAY better..

  • i agree but hdmi is way better than that

  • quality wise hdmi and vga are the same. vga does in fact support a higher resolution than tv's can handle. (2048x1536)

the only advantage of hdmi is that it will do the audio as well. but if your tv doesn't have an audio out for surround sound then you're best using VGA and connecting the audio directly from the computer to the surround sound system.

  • thanks you learn sumthin new everyday

  • fucking shit cunt,

vga to the rtb to the 905 for the lg9 audio formatingg of my cock

  • Wow, that was rather intelliegent. <_<

  • wtf thats not helpful

  • yea i have a qosmio g20 and yes have a tuner tv ...

  • That laptop must have a TV tuner, right? Or does it use the tv's tuner?

  • yes they do

if u have WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM or VISTA ULTIMATE

  • hah, u lot hve shit ltops, mine already has a built in hdmi port.

  • I think you'll need a TV tuner. You can get them at a computer or electronic store, or order them off of a computer website or ebay.

My question is, will this work through a DTV cable box, or does it have to be a direct cable link (which will be obsolete February 17th)

  • Do you have HDMI? Does your computer have DVI? If so you can buy a cheap DVI to HDMI adapter cable (or adapter, and use a seperate normal HDMI cable) for under $10.

  • where can i get one of those coax cable adapters

  • mines vga cable thing to connect to computer how can i conncet it to it i have a tv the is wireless with a reciver

  • mine says no tv tuner detected

  • damn, so does mine, i wonder what do we need?

BTW on my notebook i have nowhere to connect the coaxial cable to, what do i do, what do i need?

It look's like after all is not as easy as they say it is.....:(

  • you need to actually have a tv tuner to begin with ....

  • Dammm.. Loved the software but my HP notebook shit the bed. Now im stuck with a $3600 laptop that doesn't work! This is a nice intro to those who are not sure what it is.. If your clever enough you can use it for ALL tv and eliminate your TV packages..

  • Hmmmm, no

  • lol.. dr. phil :P

  • man a digital tv.. To the STORE!

  • cool lemme try dis out.. but is the remote assential or can we jst use the key board and mouse??

  • i use wireless keyboard and mouse on my setup downstairs...

  • is windows media centre a monthly payment thing?? or just go out and buy it and do the config stuff??

  • if you need to ask that, you don't need to be using it.

  • Windows Media Center comes with the Operating System that you have on the laptop/desktop PC you purchase. No monthly service fees at all. I have it and watch TV on it. :D

  • does pc to tv using dvi to hdmi produce good quality pictures and videos i want nice sharp picture if its posible im goin to be buying a tv (37" Lcd max res 720p)any one please

  • HDMI to DVI will give you HD but the most you will be able to get is 720p which in your case is fine

  • holy s**t, i never new it did all that. thanks!

  • how else can i connect my cable to my laptop if i do not have the dedicated port

  • damn i need a new tv

  • Can somebody tell me if 2005 Media Center is only limited to 140 channels? I have digital cable which reaches up to over 500 channels... The TV Listings Guide downloads everyday for the digital service per my provider, and when I view the TV Guide, it shows upwards of all 500 channels, but for some reason it won't click to view or scroll above channel 140?

  • to many cables.I just like it normal TV.I don't need alien tehnollogy or what ever

  • WEAK! I would just stream it from my TV using a bridge or an adapter. Connecting it to my PC wirelessly.

  • streaming quality sucks. and its hard to record.

  • does it works for xp!?

  • yes, i use media center a tv turner card to run it. Im going to actually post how to use media center, how to set it up and what to buy tomorrow. But my damn girlfriend keeps asking me to spend time with her. I just want to youtube things all day. lol

  • Is it possible to use my TV as a second monitor and run Windows media center. And then put things such as Internet Explorer window over the live TV

  • yes

  • s-video its better

  • but the quality isnt

  • the quality of svideo sucks i had to go back to my graphics card on my old desktop. I dont have anything but a svideo and vga out on my computer and no vga on my tv, unless its hiding.

  • so..how u connect it?...i would like to know..

  • what exactly do you want to do. I run a tv turner card to my computer thru dvi to hdmi, the cord cost 60 bucks and the graphics card (dvi out) i baught cost 150 bucks and the tv turner card (hooked from the wall to the cable in) cost a 100 bucks.

  • hi please answer me this.. i have a lcd tv samsung which have the dvi input and i know that it can works as a monitor of the pc, but the problem is that my pc has a s3 graphics prosavage ddr.so the question is..can i use as a monitor my tv with that video card??

  • just try.. i think it works

  • 1:43 USB FAIL!

  • idd

  • lolz! get it! get it! almost there! ahhhhh

  • it doesn´t work!

  • um. hdmi from the PC into your tv (or reciever/processor). done.

that wasnt too hard was it?

('course if you want the HD audio formats from your PC your gonna have to use the analog outs and plug that into your analog ins on your reciever or amp(s)).

  • that picture is shit

  • Lol he has the USB plugging in accuracy of a duck.

  • lol a duck

  • lol a duck

  • Lol thanks such a creative creature :).

  • Grr.. my bro's account. But I still think it's a radical creature.

  • i always had that and never new what it was for, but now i do, thanks dude

  • can u record an xbox360 game clip by doing this method?

  • umn , too much wires and hassle , id rather just use virgin Tv+, that allows HD , recording dvd playback , remote and onscreen guides deman programs etc etc
