  • either old or new...this still amorphis...im still love it!

  • q porcaria! o cara tá com catarro na garganta?

  • Wow. This song brings me way back. It reminds me of spending a winter when I was 13 frequently listening to this EP and playing Warcraft on my computer. Good memories.

  • I hate when bands wreck a song by "updating" it. This is aweful!!

  • Tomi Joutsens voice is just so brutal and powerfull. I loved the old Black Winter Day, but Tomi makes this song sound so much more powerfull. One word, Awesome

  • The vocals are way better on this version.

  • I definitely prefer the original.

The vocals are less forced and more doomy, and the keyboard line that makes the piece is much more haunting. I even prefer the clean vocals in the original.

Not saying this is terrible but the original is leagues ahead, a piece of magic.

  • Nothing is safe from the emo influence.

  • @ColtraneTaylor Now you can explain how is this emo?

  • @ColtraneTaylor It has Gothis influence but really does not sound emo

  • Best song of amorphis

  • This is actually better than the old version. I like Tomi's vocals much more (I never liked the old stuff so much). He's Finland's best growler and I also like the increase bass volume in the Magic And Mayhem 2010 album. All the songs kick ass

  • both versions kick ass in their own way

  • mmmmm not bad at all, but tomi's vocals are much better!

  • They ruined their own song..

  • I like both new and old versions. There is nothing wrong in changing some stuff. It's their music, they can fuck with it in whichever way they want, and that's true atr.And the almost-8-bit part makes it awesome. You don't like it,hit the road or your head on a wall.

    Hail from Greece.

  • What's so wrong with this new version? I like them both, they're not that different.....

  • Killed their own song

  • I like the new version except the keyboard. It plays too quiet and sounds like a Chinese toy for $10.

  • It's almost the same

  • Holy fuck this is great! i have tickts but i have to get to netherlands to see them!! :/ i live in Sweden

  • I know the old and the new version. I like the new one better. Now I'm such a terrible person. Uuuuhuuu.

  • @Oidahead *High-five*

  • @Arctica14 *High-Five* ² :D

  • @Oidahead I'm right there with you. The "...Thousand Lakes" CD originally made me a fan, particularly the original version of this song. However, I love Tomi Joutsen's voice and I think everything sounds better with him. This is just ridiculously good and this band has one of the best sounds in music.

  • Damn this is terrible, and grats to them on an album cover that looks like some sort of big bass fishing game for the playstation. By the way, liking a band's older stuff doesn't make you a hipster...in the case of Amorphis it means you like good music.

  • @Geistclan Liking the old stuff doesn't make you a hipster, but completely bashing the new stuff makes you a hipster. And that big fish on the cover is the monstrous pike from the tales of Kalevala.

  • @Geistclan You sir, might suffer from the terrible disease called "being stupid"... You're allowed to prefer the old amorphis, but for fucks sake, stop being an uptight asshole about it.. If you listen to the instrumentation of the song and analyse the vocals, you would find out, that it as a matter of fact, still is (very) good music..

And talking shit about the pike just makes you look like an ignorant idiot.

  • @Geistclan the keys solo is way better in the old one, and why niggaz gotta talk shit abt the pike yall

  • Nothing bad. But OLD version is CLassic. No one will pass the same atmosphere as the old version.

  • I don't like this at all,"Tales from the thousand lakes" needs to be remastered no to be re-recorded

  • I find the song to be re-masted excellently and all also the new decorations sound pretty good, it does sound better from the original version but that's just the my opinion regarding the sound. though to me the original is much has much value and essence

  • Kauhia suruvirsi taas menossa remakeista. Niin loistavat viisut kuin Black Winter Day eivät laimene minnekään, vaikka niistä tekisi vähän uudelleentulkintaa.

  • All Amorphis is great, how are they mainstream at all?

whoever is saying they are are fucking idiots

    Hail!

  • I like both versions, just prefer this one because I prefer the use of cleans for this song :3

  • The magic in Amorphis has no limits! I'm amazed by their work in this album. Considering the change on the vocalist and the time between the production of Tales from the Thousand Lakes to this album, obtaining something similar to the original album is almost impossible, and I think they made it with this album. Honestly, I like better the old one, but this one is in fact very good... even my favorite song from them "Song Of The Troubled One" sounds very good on this album.

  • to everyone complaining, aren't these public folk song/lyrics? I think dudes voice covers it pretty well?

  • Idk, I don't think this was a good idea... for me the original is so much better.

  • I don't really like new version, it loses all the magic inside the old quality and old intentions D:

  • @1YinYang1 That is bullshit.

  • @TheSonOfTheSystem i don't think so, it was raw and pure, but if you consider thiatbullshit welcome to the commercial side of music! :)

  • @1YinYang1 How is this commercial?...It's the same song but with better quality -.-

  • Старата версия си е по-добра пък си приказвайте колкото си искате.

  • DAMNIT why is everybody such a sissy about "old was better" ? xD its like you say "windows 98 was better, cuz it had charme" :D the old versions sounded kinda crappy, admit it! they were good, but this one is very good and brings the new singer in, which is their identity now!

  • Despite what all of you annoying fanboys say, this track is fucking amazing.

    Recreation or not.

  • both versions are great, is nice to hear an updated version of this classic gem

  • Sounds pretty good to me.

  • Both the old and the new version kick ass. The original version had that special old-school scandinavian metal feeling, the new one sounds modernly well-polished. Guys at Amorphis always made good stuff.

  • this one, unlike the other "new versions", actually sounds pretty good

  • OLD AMORPHIS WAS AMORPHIS. NEW IS SHIT!

    From Bulgaria!

  • @stiliyan66 Good to know! Now i can judge all Bulgarians from the base of your interactions. Go fuck yourself!

  • @Arctica14 hmm.. Well I can tell you Amorphis has a huge fanbase in Bulgaria, so don't judge anything! I personally love them and in fact ADMIRE tham for having gone through so many changes in style and in other aspects and still being so amazing and unique.I am not sure how I was supposed to take this comment, but I think you are a bitch right now. Cheers from Bulgaria!

  • @Arctica14 That's because of his stupid dumbass "Bulgar Necrolagtry" of only the old cvlt troo shit.

  • @Arctica14 WHAT THE HELL!!???! How come you judge ALL Bulgarians because of one Bulgarian's opinion?!?! I'm sure there are many people that come from your country (Finland) that prefer the old version, too. Does that make the ALL the Finnish people faggots?! NO!!! But sure -- Eastern Europe is made of 3rd hand people, right!!!!!! I'm telling you - one day the world will see that we are PEOPLE TOO!! And we've got very talented musicians here, too!! JUST WAIT AND SEE!!!

  • @Bitterflyify He was obviously not being serious...

  • @PSNBloodraid Oh, really? Then why do I keep on reading stuff like "Bulgaria sucks!" all over the internet, ha!?

  • @Bitterflyify Everyday I hear about how much the United States sucks. Do I get all butthurt about it? No, so stop your bitching and just enjoy the damn music.

  • @PSNBloodraid Oh, please!!! :D You American people are soooo patriotic! P.S. I enjoy the music, I do - very much. ;)

  • @Bitterflyify To be fair though, I do dislike the United States.

  • @PSNBloodraid No, you see... That wasn't my point. What I was trying to say is that I hate how people are put in the frames of nationality, race, gender or reliegion. This is fxckin stupid! As is judging them by those frames. Nothing personal to anyone, no offence or anything.... I just hate seeing the human race most divided at probably the HARDEST times in history... when we should stand united - no matter who we are and where we are...

  • SHIT ! No Growling ..

  • @stiliyan66 to me it sounds more like old amorphis then middle amorphis. what the hell are you talking about :\

  • SUCKS! puke

  • Sorry, i admit is a great song, but the original that i heard for the first time 3-4 years, is trully best. it is the greatest song i've ever heard. so i say to listen the original \m/

  • I wouldn't say this sucks at all. As good as the original? Fuck no, but that's got more to do with nostalgia than anything.

  • The clean singing part made me fucking PUKE..

  • Original ROCKS !!!

    This one SUCKS !!!

  • This is way better... much more sound quality and sounds are better. Well vocalist is like 10 times better.

  • thanks for posting regardless of opinions. amorphis any way i can get it. thx

  • Give Me a Real Voice And Real Amorphis

  • hail the power of ancient steel! Viking wrath will kill all of these ruiners of good music, it sounds like the keyboardist is playing nintendo!

i banish you to The Karelian Isthmus where the best of Amorphis lives!

  • This version is better, m'kay.

  • this version sucks

  • this version is not metallic like the older, but it has a impress in a new way!

  • ese es mi tono de llamada me encanta esta version

  • hmm the older version is better

  • stop bitching people

  • To be honest, i like Tomi Joutsen much more as singer and this version is brilliant, but older version was much more.. "Kalevala", not in that way that newer amorphis wouldn't be too, but more is always more :D

  • Through art you learn, and progress comes.. get used to it .. since the 1st day amorphis evovle! About the flamers.. its shame that some listeners stay in one band and wanna hear the same old song every day. People need to have open mind to see throught the motions of the new sound. Shame on you...

  • i dont care if its better or worst , for something its a new version and not a remastered one , if you prefere the old , just listen that one and its over :)

  • And when I said Tomi I meant Koivusaari.

  • @JKPrace he's not, he provided some growls for songs like drowned maid, joutsen is still the main growler in this album.

  • But the original is better...

  • By thy way... Tomi is singing those deep growling parts still.. Like in this version...

  • old version is way better ...

  • Is ugly this voice ....not is like Tomi was better .... I dont like me .... the good times not come back .... the voice sounds like Nu Metal ....Fuck off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I, as well, prefer the original to this one, *BUT* this one is pretty damn good too. I like the way they went after Tuonela. So many other bands don't change their sound and they get stale and old. Amorphis changed their sound and they sound better. They sound fuller and more ambient. And that's what makes a great band. The ability to change your sound and still sound awesome.

  • i first listened this version of the song. it was just an ordinary good song.

then i listened the original one and i am about to cry right now.

  • @hazarincesu Soo... What's your point?

  • @Arctica14 lol dude why you acting like you are earning money from that new version ?

  • @AlperKongen Nah nah i'm not. I just fucking hate hipsters with their "I listened to amorphis before it went mainstream" kinda shit.

  • @Arctica14 When have Amorphis ever been mainstream? This kind of pretty argument is an affront to the greatest of this immortal band.

  • Vocals are HORRIBLE, Tomi Koivusaari was 1000 times better...

  • Comment removed

  • It's not bad at all, but the original has it's charm. Both versions sounds worthy of Amorphis.

  • Awesome !!

  • better than the original , especially solo

  • These guys are brutal! \m/

  • Tr00 people here.

  • they better would made a new band, than to castrate good old Amorphis, so evrybody would be happy, now i don`t i even wanna wear a shirt of them

  • @ThorgalsWalhalla You mad?

  • @Arctica14 He real mad.

  • @ThorgalsWalhalla

    Crybaby

  • @ThorgalsWalhalla We (i.e. the faithful) would not be very happy under that turn of events. Wallow in your bitterly conservative bigotry if you must but please avoid inflicting your unjustified opinions on us. You do poor credit to the band.

  • @ThorgalsWalhalla many people say that-just because they have a new singer..I don't agree..I think Little Tomi kick ass

  • @ThorgalsWalhalla Very true change the name it's a completely different sound

  • @ThorgalsWalhalla "i don`t i even wanna wear a shirt of them" Are you trying to make me laugh my head off? Is you posing now ruined as you can no more wear Amo-shirt? :DDD Such a true barbarian VIking stright from the Valhalla's hall of heroes. You're pathetic.

  • @Hiidenlintu what does this have to do with posing ? =D i just don`t like there new stuff. i were a Shirt for myself not for you or anyone else...

  • Some darkness may be gone, but they're still as hard as Iron on a Black Winter Day!

  • I will be 13 th, who would not like it song. I prefer old original version. In new song they lost dark atmosphere of the song.

  • @KlavikusVile

    And im Nr. 14th....

Sounds like an...Amorphis Cover Band to me....sad, but true.

And by the way...i´ve loved them since ´94.

  • I've concluded that I love both the original and the revisions... The original was amazing and this is a wonderful "tribute" to that. In context to their newer material, I like that this meshes well with it. Of course there is no way in hell I'd part with my original copy of Tales from the Thousand Lakes. \m/

  • GREAT SONG!!!

  • @whitelaw81 DISAGREE. This fruit needs to quit covering old Amorphis songs he's fucking blowin it

  • @DivinityOfDoom your mum blows lol

  • I prefer the old original 1994 version. Sorry. The song was and is too perfect to be re-shapen

  • the new version sounds G-R-E-A-T! period. congratulations to the band, this is still greatt.

  • Really sad. What a great way to fuck up your own legacy.

  • @blutundboden Troll much?

  • @Arctica14 Right, because voicing my opinion about this shitty version of a truly outstanding song constitutes trolling. /slapface

The truth of the matter is that the legacy of a truly epic (a term vastly overused, yet in this case completely applicable) and groundbreaking album has been tarnished by the very band who created it by recording these awful covers. Tell me, what substance do you find here over the original? You are probably too young to appreciate the original anyways.

  • @blutundboden I appreciate the old version! I never said that i don't. But i prefer the new versions of their style. Live with it! I appreciate your point of view. And no, i didn't mean that voicing your own opinion is trolling. The way of you pointing out your opinion is what i meant was trolling.Saying that amorphis "fucked up" their own legacy with rerecording their old songs isn't very convincing way of saying your own "opinion". Don't bother to answer if you can't say your point properly.

  • @Arctica14 I think it's quite obvious to everyone that I am much more adept at eloquently expressing my point than you are. The saddest thing about this is I have to listen to this awful cover every time I come back to retort you.

  • @blutundboden Yeah yeah everyone knows your point already.

  • @blutundboden there's always the pause button, my friend...

  • @Arctica14 scene fag lol

  • @mrgrimviking Says a wannabe viking who's hometown is "Valhalla".

  • @Arctica14 Oh no! You mean what I type on the internet isn't real?

  • @mrgrimviking I doesn't have to be real to be fucking lame.

  • @Arctica14 shut up you tart

  • @mrgrimviking Hahha, tart. Gotta remember that one.

  • whenever i listen this song i feel like i can walk without shivering in a tundra with temperature of -20

  • @DENO393 Agreed!

  • This is really good, at least as good as the original, which was great too.

  • its ok , but i really cant imagine why they did this to theyr own music, amorphis its one of the best melodic metal in the world i started to listen their music since i was a kid , but thousand lakes never will be better than the original they maked back in time, remakes is not the amorphis style

  • This is terrible. Are they trying to be the "George Lucas" of music?

  • @piter923 No, they are not trying to be George Lucas of music. And where in the fuck did you ripped that out?

  • @Arctica14 They're butchering their own work, thinking erroneously that this way they'll reach a wider audience. Same thing George Lucas did with the original Star Wars trilogy. Greedy fucks. Maybe they should release an album covering Lady Gaga's songs. No artistic integrity whatsoever.

  • @piter923 You made me laugh! Thank you!

  • The only thing I would say is bad that the guitar sounds to clean and the keyboards actually don't seem to done as well as the last one.

Everything else is done better, I think a lot of people will choose to hate remakes of a song because they either want to show opinion's that would appease metal elitists or fall victim to an "Original is always better way of thinking" that spawned of of people comparing books to movies.

I would say it's pointless to remake a song but it was done very well.

  • No. It lacks something that the original had.....

  • @matzchase I wouldn't say you have to like it but I am making a conjecture here that you are looking for something that isn't there. Something you wouldn't even begin to try and bother questioning or looking for when you listened to the old song.

You could say that it's not as empowering. This song is a remake, doesn't really convey as much of the message that it did when the song was first created but like composing doesn't mean a song is done poorly because Tchaikovsky doesn't orchestrate it.

  • @PaiMeiHefeweizen Sorry but I disagree. Different periods in a band's life make for different music. The band members, your age, financial situation, how angry you are, how experienced you are with your instrument, etc.....Ozzy's Crazy Train is shit live now as Aerosmith plays better than they've ever played. Why? Who knows. This performance is really good, but, like I said earlier, there's a little something missing.

  • YOUR WRONG AMORPHIS!!!

THE NEW VERSION IS SO BAD...

THIS IS A HYMN OF METAL... PLEASE PLAY IT AS IT DESERVE!!!!!!

  • It's a GREAT re-make in my opinion. Okey the original is a masterpiece and generally all the Tales of a Thousand lakes is a fuckin masterpiece but the re-makes are not bad at all. And personally I like that Tomi does some growling again (not just 5 seconds in Silent waters) and Joutsen's voice is good and suits their style.

Also what I like is that everyone contributes to the songs. it's not one that writes all the songs and the others just follow.

  • This whole album is an atrocity, they really should have left the old songs alone

  • I prefer the original 97483282738 times !!!

  • @ElGbayRGX And i don't give a fuck 97483282738 times.

  • @ElGbayRGX old Amorphis good Amorphis!

  • blub....shit !

  • @TheLacke What's the matter? Didn't your mom put out to you this morning?

  • @Arctica14 Don´t talk to me,come first in the puberty Kid !

  • @TheLacke Well, at least I have puberty. Unlike somebody who's still at negative age at the age of 30.

  • it's cool...if they had just written it

  • Comment removed

  • I prefer the original. The original had more of that doomdeath feel to it, with this versio i think they have given it more of the swedish/finnish melodic death metal feel.

  • not the real thing..... not deep enough....the clean vocals are more emo than metal. It could bw worst...... it lacks in emotions.....

  • @brdaws Go fuck yourself!

  • @Arctica14

Hahaha...... a really constructive post.... what are u a fucking fag? Wanna help me fuck mysealf? What are u 14yo?17yo?I really dont like this version, the voice is not enough deep for me....what is wron with u?Are u member of Amorphis, do u jack of when listening to this song?

Go fuck uresealf....WTF???? The same response as i get from people that listen to the new paradise lost, when i said, that for me the true band is the one that made Lost Paradise.

    U're really stupid !!!

  • @Arctica14 No need to be so mean, he's got the right to have an opinion.

  • @SolarGhost789 Which one of these cry babies do you mean?

  • @Arctica14 Doesn't matter.

  • @brdaws You're kinda retarded and tone deaf.

  • @Kataxu

Another emo? No, i'm not deaf..... oh sorry it would be better if i was blind....u cant understand that i dont like this version and if u masturbate like hell on this new version...well good for u, u have the right to like it and i have the right to dislike it. This version is cleaner i like more original versions. U like Opeth like i do, yet u speak like a retarded guy....ok not every Opeth fan can be inteligent...

  • all those remastered versions are just right for amorphis , those growls give these songs something to feed on

  • Ότι πρέπει γιάυτή την μαύρη χειμωνιάτικη μέρα

  • @spyromagic Umm, sorry i don't speak Greece
