I must say this is one of the best on bike videos I've ever seen. A camera inside the helmet really works well. No howling wind, just enough bike sound to be pleasant, and the commentary doesn't sound like a weather reporter in a hurricane. I came to this video to find out what Wayah Rd was like, and I couldn't have found a nicer introduction. Well done!
p.s. I like the wristwatch on the instrument cluster, I do that too!
Yeah, my old Kodak v570 does a good (enough) job of muting wind noise, while still allowing my voice and some engine sounds to come through nicely. Not the greatest video quality out there, but decent enough for the YT format.
The Wayah road is a real treat. Hope you get to ride it some day.
You are the first viewer to notice, or at least comment on, the wristwatch. A tab of velcro, a 15 dollar watch, and we're good to go!
I actually got pretty lucky with the weather on this trip. It was early in the fall, and turned out to be just about the last full week of pleasant riding conditions in those mountains before the really chilly stuff settled in. I'll probably head down there a bit earlier next time.
Great ride + great bike + fantastic scenery = Joy!.
Of all the areas in the USA I've seen on here this always looks the best. I'd love to blast through there on a bonneville or better still a thruxton one day. Oh well, back to commuting 50 miles a day in below zero + wind + rain + snow!
The USA is pretty big, and there are a lot cool places and roads to explore, but western North Carolina is pretty hard to beat. Some of the best riding and scenery to be had, and all within a relatively compact area.
It's fairly chilly where I live as well, but we'll be warming up shortly! :)
Duffy, Im glad to see a new video, and it was a great idea to save some new footage for winter viewing. I liked the pace, since part of the fun is the overall great scenery. I highly recommendation of your videos, or something like that. Are you down for the winter? Our weather warmed back up.
Not down for the winter per se, but I'm generally not all that keen on riding when the temps are much below 45 or so. My first couple of years with a camera in my helmet, I would venture out occasionally during the winter, almost whatever the temp, just to make a video. I'm less inclined to do that now. A die hard polar bear rider I'm not!
As we've seen, you have some awesome roads to play on, and great scenery up your way as well, but you really need to plan a trip down to the western North Carolina mountains one day. Pretty special! :)
What a great road. I can see why you'd recommendate it. :)
The shadows certainly keep you on your toes with the changing light conditions. I realise the camera can't adjust as quickly as our eyes, but it still looked challenging.
I like your riding style ( I have learned a lot from it), you ride at a speed that, whilst providing for a LOT of fun, gives you the ability to take in the scenery & share it with everyone.
Thanks BB. If I were to recommendatize 10 cool motorcycle roads that I have ridden over the years, this one would surely make the top 5. Lots 'o riding fun, and very scenic!
Yeah, the camera does make it look as though I'm just hurtling into a black hole sometimes. Like you say, though, as seen through actual human eyeballs, the light changes aren't quite as dramatic. But it still requires paying close attention. Kinda fun, really! :)
The flora down in that gorge is lavish indeed, but probably not as lush as Puerto Rico. I've actually done a bit of driving around down there, and spectacular scenery abounds. Roads can be a bit dodgy, though ! :)
Wayan road is very nice and scenic how it snakes in and out of the forest around the lake. We toured this road from Deals Gap in 2008, and it took most of the day. Although we had to watch for gravel and debris in many of the corners then, this run looked much cleaner.
This makes me want spring to arrive early. I miss riding a lot.
I don't think I've ever been able to fault ur skill or smoothness. I find that to be really impressive. In fact, I find that I've come to expect it in ur vids now, oddly enough :-)
I simply had to comment on this vid when I saw ur reaction to crossing the double yellow. Very few motovloggers have the discipline & smoothness that seem so innate to the way u ride.
Great video...We just got back from this area, I
would agree this is a top ride route, a must do..Loved it and all of moonshine Rt 28

@boatbaby123 Wayah Rd is an awesome ride for sure, but the last couple of times I was there it was a bit gravelly. Thanks for watching!

Nice reminder of what summer is like. I'm looking forward to spring so much. Haven't been on the bike since mid October.

Great video. Very well done. I am hoping to get my Goldwing back there next year and ride that road and a lot more. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks much! I hope that you and the Goldwing manage to get down (up, over?) that way. You'll have a blast for sure!

Lavish vegetation looks like Puertorrican inner roads.

It's such a great motorcycle area. Roads like this one are fairly common!

Very nice road. Loved the water by it.

My favorite miles on this road were the ones that bordered that beautiful stream. Made it kinda hard to keep my eyes on the road, though!

Yeah, the Wayah Road is definitely a highlight down that way, and I'm looking forward to riding it again before too long.
Heck, January is almost gone! The warmer stuff will be upon us before we know it! :)

Cool ride. I've never been to DG but the vids I've watched or DG look like this or vice versa. Lucky guy taking an MC vacation.

You really should get yourself and your bike down there someday. It's pretty special.
That said, there's definitely a lot of great riding and scenery to be had up your way as well. Just a bit chilly at the moment!

Awesome road, will have to try and find it at DG4 this year.

Just one of the many cool motorcycle roads down that way, and it's only about a half hour or so from Deal's Gap. Definitely worth checking out. :)
dprider02 2 years ago
@Wilks89 We did this road at DG2, rested outside of Franklin, NC.
