Mortgage lenders were pushing short term loans with lower interest rates with the promise that they could refi out of or convert it to another type of loan later. When the market crashed those products went away which left millions of people with no exit strategy. The loan is called due at the end of that term. Thus the foreclosures. Stop watching Faux News you fucking morons!

Short term loans are ALWAYS used by commercial RE property holders to purchase RE. They then move into a different loan for the long term. There is nothing wrong with this strategy, BUT it doesnt work when crooks rig the system to fail so they can fleece everyone.

@MrTruthAddict No I don't. When I got the mortgage for my home I researched lenders and what to expect for a month. We're talking about a huge loan taking decades to pay back. Why shouldn't someone be expected to do their homework before accepting a loan? I also didn't buy more house than I could afford even though my wife and I both have college degrees.(Which doesn't mean you "deserve" anything.)

Even THEY got stuck in short term loans because of the mortgage crisis. Normally there are plenty of loans out there to move into. They dried up overnight. Part of this problem is rooted in the rise of subprime lending(giving loans to people who can't really afford them for "too much house"). Blame doesn't lay on one side alone. Except for the fact that Wall St stood to reap TRILLIONS if they made the market fail. So they crashed the market, took their trillions of profit and that made all the loan products disappear over night. What could have been a good strategy to get into real estate turned into a nightmare when Wall St pulled the rug out.
