Thats not true at all. You would need many lemons in series yes, but youd also need many in parallel too. Series would gt your voltage high enough but you wouldnt be able to draw enough current, youd need some in parallel to get the current high enough.
By the way im an Electrical Engineer, so ive done this sort of stuff many times. The reason you couldnt run something off your battery is that while the voltage seemed to be enough it just cant supply enough current. If you wanna light something try a simple red led.
I havent tested this off hand. The proper way to test how good a battery you have is to take a resistor of a certain size that is relatively small (try 20 ohms) and put the battery across it. Measure the voltage across the resistor (this will be different than the voltage you see with nothing hooked up). then also take the current through the same resistor. Multiple these numbers and youll have the power in watts your battery is putting out. The higher this number the more you can do with it.
What in god's name is wrong with you commenters? Get lives for pete's sake. You actually have time to write nasty comments to people who don't deserve them?
I made a lemon battery for my 5th grade science fair and I had 4 lemons that produced roughly about 4 volts, and these guys' lemons barely produced 3 volts w/ 8 lemons!!!!!!!!!!! How sad.
Thats the difference between organic lemons and genetically engineered lemons. lol I was thinking if one lemon produced almost a full volt, the bunch would be like seven or eight. I think like the guy said, he had poor connections. Maybe a soldering iron would help with that.
try cutting the lemons up into quarters, series them_ + to - _ while keeping the Electrodes(Cu&Zi) at opposite ends of the slice. oh, and don't wrap the zinc nail w/wire!
Remember, Series X's Voltage....Parallel X's Ampers in D.C. Cells..
even try adding salt (NaCl)
or to be really amazed.. hook up an A.C. to A.C. transformer supply backwards w/Lemons connected to the output and your V Meter on the two prongs of the input..YOU WON'T BELIEVE YOUR EYES!!
Were going to make LEMONS!!!!. lol Kids say the darndest things. Remains me of when I was a kids(those were the good old days)I like how you quoted from Mr Wizard " Now through the magic of televison"
At first stop to think you were a loser! :) Don't forget it: you have to be an idol for your kids. Try to excite them! Find out what they like to do (any hobbies) and try to help or do it together with them or just try to make them interested for another things that you think could be useful for them. Very important thing is - spend more time with them! And remember: it's not easy to "rebuild" your relationship to them but it's possible and it'll be a long hard way but you'll make it!

sunray1984: thank you for your advice on building a better relationship with my kids... i guess the "spending time" bit is what it is; and i'll admit that i've been pretty selfish lately
it actually took about an hour from the first one to when we actually measured them all for the camera. I doubt all 8 lemons were getting .98 volts consistently; when I first hooked them up I got 5.9 volts.
Dude, I'm really not sure you should be encouraging children to test for electricity with their tongues (unless you are part of some eugenics master plan - LOL!). But seriously, it was really nice to see a parent spending time with their kids and taking such an active interest in their education. More like you & the world would be a better place.
that is correct. the amperage on this will be very low which is why you want to find something to test this on that is expecting low amperage like anything that runs on batteries. A house light bulb won't work because its expecting 10+ amps.
missouriperuano you are correct, I can't remember now what the amperage was but it was very low. The biggest problem I had was that the copper wire I had coming out of the lemon was 12 guage (not very easy for making a decent contact with anything)
cool video, your voltage should have been sufficient for a very small flashlight bulb, but I don't think there is sufficient current. Try a cheapo calculator, they are low amp users.
Screw all the asshole commenting on this. Youre kids are cute as hell. Hope Im as good a dad as you when the time comes.

couldn't you wire several of these series circuits together in parallel to increase the current?
carcrash714 2 years ago
Yup, series increases voltage and parallel increases current. You can combine the two to get a little of each.

Use a led bulb which accepts low amperage. You can pick up a low q led at chickenshack. Also try plain water instead of lemons, which work the same.
