  • CGI can never replace models. Digital looks cartoonish and cheap.

  • they should've taken the model from the DS-9 episode trials and tribblations and recreated the enterprise flybys with all the computer generated planets and space scapes, etc... either that, or they should've spent a lot more time perfecting that enterprise CGI model. it just looks like a graphic. model shots would've seemed more in fitting with the original footage.

  • it's like repainting the Mona Lisa as a cartoon, dumbed down beyond sense

  • Will the Special Effects of the Original Series get Overhauled and Re-Done again ?

  • Congratulations. You've replaced visual effects that matched the look of the cheap show, with shitty CG that is already out of date only 5 years later. Fucking morons, I swear ... I'm just glad I was able to buy DVDs of the show before this crap was made up.

  • AGREED....The "remastered" CGI looks very cheap and home-made. Scratching my head as to why. Even some video games today have better gfx.

  • @00devilangel

Some people think that even the CGI effects of James Cawley's Star Trek New Voyages/Phase II look better than the ones of TOS-R.

  • Can't wait for my remastered set to arrive in the mail. I am stricly an original Trek fan. To me the original cast made star trek, change the cast and its no longer Star Trek!

  • is the remastered version out in bluray yet? or just DVD

  • You will see... a gorn blink *cue epic music*

  • i would have rather had all cgi with the original classic star trek actors and music than the terrible micheal baying of star trek 2009 reboot moviewise as well. that way you wouldnt have noticed they were in thier 80s lol. end rant.

  • ie. they just use the soundtrack/voicework and go complely computer animation, that would have been much cooler.especialy with the animated series lol. tos and tng's visuals are looking a bit dated, watching star trek voyager is funny as they go from tng style visuals to almost feature film visuals by the end of the show. good times. ^_^.

  • I'd have to say the effects are subtle and not badly done.star trek tos could really use this compared to lucas's fiasco of special edition star wars original trilogy. it would be much cooler though for them to take the graphics software used for final fantasy the spirits within and re-do star trek tos and tng with lucas calibre effects as some of the problems are with like seeing the zipper in the lizard guy's suit and seing obvious stage props.mildly impressed.

  • I don't really need to watch re-mjigg-ed episodes of TOS, it's perfect as it is...but gee I need those extras and special features and documentaries and shit like oxygen.

*sighs* so now I have to go and buy these DVDs

  • Voyager was CGI in 1996 i hope thats not the finished effect on the Enterprise cause it looks like a video game

  • OK, I need some help, i bought all three DVD box sets, but all i can do is watch the episodes and bonus dokumentaries. Why cant I watch the "access features", shot comparisons and "the enterprise tour". And I can only play one side of the discs, is that the reason?

  • It's the preview of the HD-DVD not the normal DVDs!!! May be you only have the normal DVD-Sets.

  • does it work on the xbox 360 hddvd

  • Its headed toward the Blueray players in a matter of weeks.. Thank God.

  • The redone effects are ridiculous, they're distracting and interrupt the suspension of disbelief.

  • That's an odd comment. The original effects are ridiculous. They're so obviously fake and low quality, they don't match the rest of the episodes. Sure they shouldn't have CHANGED the effects like they did, but to redo them so they are matching quality is pretty awesome. I'm surprised how realistic the enterprise looks now, though still CGish, it's much better than the grainy miniature.

You should understand that they remastered the entire film, not just the effects. It's beautiful!

  • How dare they.

    "Better" is subjective.

  • I forgot to mention - thanks for posting! Great to hear that TOS was remastered.

  • I know there have been advances since, but I'm still disappointed with the CG quality. It's so obvious. Can't beat the SW 1 - 3 fx or the rebooted Battlestar Galactica fx...

  • I cant wait for this to be released on Blu-ray

  • For some reason the CGI doesn't look like much of an improvement over the original. In fact, in some scenes the original Enterprise looks better because it's clearer and more visible while the CGI Enterprise is quite dull and lifeless. Even in the side by side comparison showing a mid-shot of Kirk, I thought the original looked better than the remastered version. Looks like its done more harm than good.

  • Star Trek: TOS is much more watchable to me now.

  • I just bought a hd dvd player on ebay with 7 movies for $66, and then I come across this and although the set is retail $200! they are going for half that now. I don't know how I am going to explain it to the wife but I gotta have it. I want to see it remastered in HD! Dang this only could happen with the demise of HD DVD R.I.P.

  • Is the remastered CGI stuff only on the HD side, or can you see the new CGI on the dvd side too?

Are they going to redo Season's 2 and 3 in the same manner?

  • The remastered film and CGI effects are on the HD side and the DVD side. It also appears that all of the special features, like Billy Blackburns home movies, are on both sides as well. I don't have an HD player, but even on the regular DVD the remastered episodes look great!

  • Hmm a well thought out plan and thou I like Star Trek this is a nice way to seduce fans or those who like science fiction, I'll stay with DVD until the format war ends, leaving only one HD format to serve the consumer market. Long live laserdisc and DVD.

  • Can somebody answer a question I have?

I have a regular PowerDVD program and was wondering if I could watch the HD Star Trek Remastered on that, or would I have to just buy the PowerDVD Ultra?

  • you be better off buying a hd dvd player,:P as you need powerdvd ultra and a 720p monitor fast graphics card, and then you need a hd dvd drive

  • already have season 1 ordered;should have it before Christmas. tried watching it on local tv station--not hardly. the episodes sometimes don't come on when they're supposed to and they are cut up. The entire episodes are on this HD DVD

  • The Shuttle bay old effect looks bether the CGI new effects. The CGI for this particular scenes looks like A PC GAME opening.

  • HD DVD ALL THE WAY!!!

  • I really don't understand why a great company like Paramount would invest so much time and money on the HD-DVD format when it seems that Blu-ray will soon be the only "standard" for

    the HDTV DVD market.

  • m8 hd dvd here to stay, blu-ray is ps3 kids play games

  • You got owned pretty good.

  • Why not just remake the series. Don't fix what ain't broke. I'll keep my cruddy old f'd up VHS pre-records, this crap is for nerds.

  • The models look better than that cgi.

  • Love HD DVD

  • HD DVD on it's knees? The PS3 has been saving BR's ass this whole time. If it were not for the PS3, BR would be DOA. HD DVD was slaughtering BR before the PS3 came out. Sony needs to worry more about Microsoft and Nintendo kicking their ass, instead of some damn format war.

  • damn, i cant wait to buy this!

  • Stupid Paramount signing a deal with HD-DVD. This show should be on the superior Blu-ray, HD-DVD is already on its knees.

  • Kewl ...perfect work.thx a lot
