  • whats the name of that kids show that had human pigs serving food anyone?

  • Was this scottish??

  • Justifying being allowed to CITV as opposed to the 'more respectable' BBC to my gran was hard enough without this toss.

  • Got to be one of the worst kids tv shows of my generation. The theme tune and the fake laughter is just the start.

  • That burger looks rancid

  • Jennifer Calvert is gorgeous. Anyone else see her topless in a play? Sadly I can't remember the name of it-but they were magnificant.

  • @MALCBAGGIE no but i wish i had , i had a massive crush on her as a kid

  • They certainly don't make them like this anymore.

  • used to enjoy it on the English-speaking Saudi channel even though I didn't speak much English at the time!

  • OMG!!!! this takes me back!!! (oh jeez, now i sound very old!!!)

  • Ive looked everywhere for episodes of this no find please can someone help with this, also Mike & Angelo, also if anyone wants any I have all episodes of knightmare 80's

  • Holy shit!, i remember this.

  • tele is so shit now.....its all about budgets/profit and less about wanting to entertain kids with decent programmes, they dont even have a saturday morning kids tv show anymore like Live and Kicking or Motor Mouth....wtf - sad times.

  • 3:15 coming home from school, tuning in to T-Bag, and Telebugs, and looking forward to the grown up show at 4:45 such as knightmare!!! before home and away and neighbours. jeez, those were the days, really makes me sad! anyone else have these memories? im 30 now....

  • @mi005ro MAkes me sad too. I'm the same age as you, and did exactly the same things you describe in those days. Back then we were so full of optimism, it was an endless joy. Now the only things in life are endless, joyless masturbation sessions interrupted by the odd bit of work. Where did it all go wrong...

  • I can haz cheeseburger?

  • Yes. I remember the episode when it burnt down.

  • on the sega master system put in Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and i swear the Library/School level has this music in it lol welll it sounds like it anyway

  • I still find myself humming this tune whenever I'm bored waiting for a bus or dancing on burgers... Ahhh, nostalgia

  • didnt it burn down because someone left something in the toaster? seem to remember that.

  • hated this show with a passion

  • AHH, The good old days. No Sky TV and only 45mins of kids TV a day. No wonder there is no quality kids TV anymore as its all about money these days.

  • I sooo remember the bloke in the top hat dancing on the burger

  • GET OFF MY BURGER

  • I remember it well. Must mean Im old!

  • I had a vague memory of this show and just thought it was all a dream.

  • fukin el- i never really liked this but i used to watch it - it was tv bullyin time ffs :D

  • God I hated this show when I was a kid.

  • I remember watching this as a kid! and yes they should bring it back!! :D

  • this show sucks, and will always suck!

  • @MrButtmunch85 You're right as Nostalgic as we all are, this show sucked, howver the theme tune is the shizz!

  • OMG!!! Thank you so much for putting this up! It's been bugging me for ages what this show was called!

  • I used to LOVE this, and I remember it everytime the "what did you watch when you were younger" chats start creeping into convo, and no one EVER has any idea of what I'm talking about :(

  • Reminds me of thesong from the Mickey Mouse game for Sega Genesis.

  • @jlenoconel stage four, the library right? i thought i was the only one!

  • @jmizzletelevizzle Yeah lol.

  • @jlenoconel YES This on:

    watch?v=sE42qzjb9yY&feature=related

  • I can actually remember an episode of this, barely, where all the staff were told they had to have these impossibly big smiles on these motivational posters, so they cut the smiles out the posters and stuck them to their face, lol.

Kids TV is rubbish these days, cheap naff cgi with terrible storylines, old cartoons are better, back when animation was a work of art.

  • This was the only CITV show I ever used to switch off. Beyond the titles, I've never ever watched it. It might have been good, but I think I had an allergy to it, or something. Lol.

  • I used to watch this on our national TV when I was a kid without knowing much English and I really enjoyed it .. never realized it was a kids show, though :)

  • Can you imaghine them making a kids tv show set ina burger bar now? lol the PC and healthy living brigade would wade in and claim it was 'inappropriate tv viewing' or something stupid lol

  • People love the strange feeling of seeing something they haven't seen in YEARS. So weird.

  • want to know something sad? i still remember vaguely the advertisement jingle that went with the title music:

"i am sure that you will still agree

there's nothing quite like spatz on your tv

    open wide each wendesday twenty-to-five!"

  • @messycarla It's called childhood, we are all awesomely guilty for knowing that jingle :D

  • @messycarla When I tune into Citv I expect some meaty comedy slapped between 2 floury baps with large fries. Eat in or take out laughter will break out when this crazy gang put on bow ties!

  • @katakisLives IMPRESSIVE :DD

  • OMG thanks so much for putting this up!! 5*

  • wow remember that show good times

  • I love Spatz. I used to watch it all the time every Wednesday at 4.40. I always watched it with my Grandad and my Nanna. I like Debbie/Stephanie Charles, Vince/Joe Greco, Karen/ Jennifer Calvert, Dexter/ Vas Blackwood and Freddy/ Katy Murphy but I liked them all the funnyest characters I thought where funny where Stanley/Jonathan Copestake and TJ Strickland/ Paul Michael. I wish this was brought back to CITV on ITV1 and I hope it's out on DVD soon. I love Spatz forever and I always will xxxxxx

  • Man those chips looked awful back then and they look worse now!

  • Never thought i'd see this again, Thanks!

  • Oh my god, i thought I had dreamed this programme up! no one remebers it and was beginning to think I was going mad!!! so glad I found this!!!!! Loved it back in the day!

  • ''STRRRRICKLAND!!!!!!!!''

    :)

  • When did Danny John Jules AKA Cat from Red Dwarf join this show?...

I heard it mentioned in one of the RD DVD extra features, but he is mentioned anywhere else...

Also, does anybody else think the intro theme sounds like a Mario Bros game, or Alex the Kidd?

  • It sounds like the music from a level in Mickeys Castle of Illusion

  • i can't find this on DVD or even VHS

Such A pity as it was a great show

  • I'm still wanting to know what Joe Greco is up to these days?!

  • I an not believe I came across this! I have been trying to remember for ages the nmae of this programme!

  • This should be on DVD! I used to love this as a kid!

  • There was a similar show on tv around the same time and it had the song' The Ritz' and that was also the name of the show, can't find much info about it on the web though. Anyone else remember it?

  • When I tune into Citv I expect some meaty comedy slapped between 2 floury baps with large fries. Eat in or take out laughter will break out when this crazy gang put on bow ties, now I'm sure you will soon quite agree there's nothing like a spatz on your tv open wide each wednesday twenty to five!!!!!!!

  • i was a kid when i watched this & thanks for the share sweet jess XXXXX

  • Your welcome Mark <3...

This show should be on DVD! They put the likes of Terrahawks & Star Fleet etc..

    Why not this?

  • They always cite complications regarding copyright. For example, if the opening tune was based on a rag theme by Scott Joplin, they would have to find who now holds the rights to the composition since Joplin is long dead, then they would have to negotiate for purchase of the rights, or permission to use the tune.Even if somone switches a radio on, or even whistles a line of a song, it has to be permitted/credited, it's all very complicated (and quite frankly, a pain the arse!)

  • It's all very fickle, isn't it? I always thought that

CITV shows where far better than CBBC LOL!

  • Ssh! You can't say that! They'll do you for deflammation! :D

  • I remember watching this on Children's ITV

  • This always reminds me of tea time after school, eating healthy food when all I wanted was one of those burgers on TV :-)

  • God, haven't seen this for other 15 years

  • OMG i used to watch this, would love to see a full episode, bet its terrible lol

  • Children are not better off now. This isn't a good example of the quality at the time

  • i used to hate how this pretended to be american. bloody awful.

  • It did? The majority of accents were Scottish and English. The show just happened to have a couple of Canadians in it.

  • god i never liked this show.........one of the few i reely disliked lol

  • lmao.used to love this.

  • HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I haven't seen this since I was 6! I've just been sat here pissing myself!

  • I agree. Even as a child I found this programme condescending. However now I find myself watching the tacky opening credits with more than a hint of affection. Shame on me

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

    Ah the memories!!!!! :)

  • fucking legend!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • This was a quality TV show when I used to watch it after getting home from little school.

  • but what the hell was 'spatz' about?

i mean 'spatz' what name is that???

Oh jesus i just seen gummy bears opening.... weekend not wasted!

  • what the hell happened to the good old 80s and 90s kids tv shows? i blame it all on the increasing sky channels and too much variety, and less kids concentration spans! im 28 now, and back when i was a kid, it was either CITV or CBBC. bring back SPATZ, KNIGHTMARE, TELEBUGS, MAID MARION, MIKE AND ANGELO.....etc

  • @michael1981uk I know exactly what you mean. Im the same age as you (28 this year) and kid's tv today is nothing like it was when we were growing up. As you say we only had CITV or CBBC with many classic kids /teens tv shows. I loved Spatz, Mike and Angelo, Pugwall, even Simon and the Witch lol

  • Nowadays it's either trashy 'dumbing down' nonsense or 'deep and meaningful' idealistic stuff (like Glee) that has rave reviews but is nothing compared to some of the funny, smart, sometimes hardhitting but more relevant shows we watched. I remember Press Gang (with Dexter Fletcher) which i seem to recall had some quite tough storylines in but they were all told differently than today.

  • @michael1981uk i agree.. its so sad that TV has gotten so commercial.. I know that sounds so stupid but I miss the days when tv was innocent and you could be a little kid again.. I miss 'are you afraid of the dark' now that was some good tv!! i hope we go back there some day....

  • @michael1981uk aye aye, kids tv in the 80s and 90s was refreshing, bright and fun to watch,i sit and watch them now with my daughter and i want to turn it off, very boring

  • @michael1981uk I do think you have to be a kid to love kids tv as it's part of how you learn but I do think the thing Spatz has was that the cast are all adults... I used to love Spatz because it wasn't a bunch of kids 'acting' & it was very Amercan sitcomy.

  • @michael1981uk Couldnt agree more, back then kids tv was well worth vegging out on the sofa for lol. I remember Fun House with Pat Sharpe, Live and Kicking on saturday mornings, Grange Hill, ZZzzzap on CITV. Oh how the 90`s was a great time to be a kid. I miss`em like mad!!!

  • @michael1981uk Im 27 and you hit the nail on the head, kids tv now is aweful. Stuff my daughter watches wouldnt have entertained me as a kid lol

  • @michael1981uk Yes, too much quantity and not enough quality!

  • @michael1981uk Yeah definitely! Bring those shows back!!!!!!!!!! Youtube is a minefield of these! Classic shows that I loved watching!

  • @michael1981uk Ad the late 60s and 70s to your list, mate.

  • this was excellent!

  • I remember This brill it was

  • God I hate this show. Hated it then and hate it now.

Interesting to hear the theme again though, thanks for the upload.

  • Hahaha! Same here, the theme tune wasgood though.

  • Stephanie Charles she is fuuny!

  • All the cast work in fast food restaurants now for real.

  • I was gonna ask I wonder what these guys are up to now. Your comment is most likely the correct one though :)

  • man, i so remember that. used to watch the show as a kid, and watchin the openin theme again brings back memories.

  • I alway like watching spatz when I was 4 Years old.

I like the actress as Jerrifer Calvert, Sue Devaney and the actor Johnathan Copestake

  • I am so thankful to the poster of this! I've been trying to remember the name of this show for so long and I stumble on it here! Just classic tv! Brilliant!

  • OMG ...classic....can any 1 put some episodes up plzzzz!

  • lmfao i remember this garbage. it was refreshing however to see members of the fast food industry smiling. i cant seem to find a trace of 'cone zone' on youtube. that was crap n all but i do enjoy the nostalgia

  • I used to like this show but always thought the bloke dancing on a burger in these titles was really gross! I also used to think their main creation, the Spatzburger, sounded gross too!

  • how is that your fucking stupid soon to be dead friends think they can steal my cannabis n then sell it back to me.

  • The only good thing about Spatz was the lovely Jennifer Calvert. The rest of the show was utter $hite

  • i always thought i dreamt this show but it was real! god bless the poster of this video!!!! (big up rory breaker also!)

  • I used to like this, but nobody's ever heard of it.

  • oh blimey......that bad it was good..

  • Oh my god this was legendary.

  • awesome! so happy someone else remembers this!!

  • oh my god I used to love this.

  • Strrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrickland!!!!

  • Classic!

  • the manager burd was always hot!

  • I cant believe it I feel like ive been sent into a time warp

All these old videos Mike and Angelo, Round the twist, now Spatz this is crazy LOL

  • whoa, nostalgia overload with this and mike and angelo

  • vas blackwood went on to be in lock stock and 2 smoking barrels as Rory and other things aswell

  • Jennifer Calvert used to boil my potatoes.

  • spatz this rocked!

  • I loved Joe Greco in this (and anything).

    Where are you now Joe?!

  • Man this takes me back, loved it

  • OMG the theme tune is the best eva lol!

  • i love this show! no joke it was the best tv show out there! spatz 4 dvd!!! xxxxxxx

  • do u know where i can get a copy of the series cos it was fab!

  • i hope so! it was ace, id love to work there than Mc Ds or BK

  • Then we all got jobs in McDonalds and realsied how different Spatz is from the real world!

  • Use to air on YTV in 1988 when it first launched for Cancon (Canadian content quotas). Haven't seen it since. THANKS!! You'd think a Canadian channel would respin it for that reason (Cancon). :-)

  • One of the greatest shows ever!

  • i never used to be able to remember the name of the show. all i remembered about it was it was set in a restaurant and had a classic theme tune

  • i used to love this show as a kid! i remembering watching it on citv lol! & i loved the theme music to it lol! my fav character was tsanely because he was the "nice but dim" charcater always made me laugh and im embarassed to admit this but as a kid i had a little crush on the guy that played vince *blushes*

  • stanley

  • Wow!I saw this show in Spain when I was a child and no one I know remember it. I didn't remember the storyline properly but I used to have fun with it.

  • YES! SPATZ!

I used to love the tap dancing man on the burger.

I remember Jennifer Calvert was on an episode of Red Dwarf once too. She's beautiful. Amazing memories. x

  • No one else I know remembered this show, so i had to go onto youtube 2 find it and prove to them it actually existed, because I used to watch this show regularly when I was younger. However as my friends did not remember it they tried 2 make me feel like i was going mad!!!

  • i had the exact same problem with all my friends but what made it worse is i couldnt remember the name of it so i googled around, got the name and now they look silly

  • i thought Danny John Jules was in this? :S

  • Hello to eveyone who commented on this Spatz video, curtasy of spatz4dvd thanks to who ever that is. I remember that in this year me and my friend Robert had a walkie talkie, which were mine I had one and let Robert borrow the other so we could, talk to eachother I told him I was watching Spatz what?Spatz and held the walkietalkie to the speaker to hear the, theme.

  • crikey!! :P

  • none of my mates believed me when i recall this programme but now i can show them the truth. it shall set me free

  • omfg SPATZ!!!!!!!! amazing, I remembered the tune as soon as it started! :D

  • i was'nt fussed about this programme. i used to flick over when it came on. did'nt the waitresses go about on roller blades?

  • they dont make kids shows like this nemore!

  • too right im glad i not no kid now id switch over if i was watching whats on now! terrable

  • omg I remember having a crush on joe when I was younger xD

  • oh me too!!! im glad to see i wasnt the only one back then lol!

  • hes dancing between alot of burgers how exiting

  • Ahhhhhh takes me back...

  • Am I the only Canadian who remembers this show? I used to watch Spatz, along with Press Gang and Desmond's, on YTV in the early '90s! At least Desmond's finally got released on DVD in Canada - must go back to HMV and pick it up...

  • the place kept buring down at the end of each series well nearly

  • Well once. Not so much "kept" burning down as "once" burned down. LOL. Nicely remembered though! :D

  • So this is were Sam Sparo was before his hit 'Black and Gold' lol.

  • Thanx for this post i spent a lil while tryna remember the name of it used to love watchin it,brings back some great memories for me!x

  • I used to watch this when it was on TV here in the early 90's. Good times.

  • I used to absolutely detest this programme and just watching that 44 second reminder nearly made me throw up. It had the whole fake american thing going on as well as just being generally crap. It's programmes like this that scarred me for life.

  • It was Canadian not American - and both the Canadaian characters were actually from Canada and spoke with their real accents. The show was also produced half by a British company and half by a Canadian company. So "Fake American"? Haha, wrong on both counts, mate.

  • no, you're wrong "mate" because did I say anything about their accents? I was actually thinking of the imitation american NTSC picture quality, the hideously cheesy ragtime theme tune and the annoying laugh track I seem to remember it having. Even if I had been on about the accents, which I wasn't specifically, I'd still be right as Canadian accents are North American accents, so think before you laugh at me, you big Spatz lover.

  • it was an imitation diner, i think there was one american in it :)

  • Actually I think the post production was actually done in Canada (it was a Canada/UK joint production as we know), so that NTSC smear would have been real.

I never understood why they would make a seemingly prime time budgeted sitcom to sell to kids, especially with a storyline and satyrical performances so irrelevant and alienating to children. The sets alone must have cost a fortune. Watching this as a child I couldn't work out who the show's makers were trying to target exactly.

  • Its probably thinking like that which contributes to the degredation of our youth, I used to love watching this as a kid and I would only have been about 5 at the time. Beats teletubbies and the like without a doubt, its so mindnumbing!

  • Hey, don't get me wrong, I love Spatz.

Give them credit for making something as obscure as a transatlantic sitcom about fast food management politics, set in Cricklewood (!), with the canned laughter production values of high end shows like Roseanne. That clearly shows respect for a child audience. You wouldn't find that kind of ambition in children's TV programming today.

I loved Spatz as a kid and love it now. It really was/is completely original. Still, I can see why others don't like it.

  • Till now since I was a kid, I remembered this theme tune, regularly, but couldnt remember the show name! Nostalgia overload!

  • OMG i looved this used to love Dexter
