The biggest advantage of taping the sun's energy for the generation of electricity is that it greatly reduces our dependence on fossil fuels. It is estimated that the world's total energy consumption will increase by 30% in the following decade and hence developed nations are taking serious steps to enable the switch from conventional energy sources to renewable energy sources. Transformer company, Pacific Crest Transformers has more on the role of solar energy on their website
thats what shits me about this government all these great ideas end up getting done in other countries because the government has no balls ... time to change the government i think
250 billion are you joking this company has already bought land in australia and has most of the funding and has a major world contractor quoting around 650 million the only problem is getting government funding to assist as the oil barons seem to control this country as much as yours
Where in Australia? Im currently living in Perth, and have heard no mention of any Enviro-mission purchases of land, etc. Please forward a press release if you have one.
originally proposed for tapio, wentworth shire in NSW or mabye Victoria (not sure on that) they managed to get capital raised and a major contractor(Leightons) with plans ready to go but after much government stalling what should have been a kilometer high revolutionary design now looks like never taking off
I believe the war in Iraq has cost far more than 250 mil. You are under the impression that it is not possible for this idea to get off the ground with a loving establishment who wants peace for all. You are incorrect. It's just we have a psychotic war mongering establishment who wants power.
This is a really interesting idea, but why is it being pursued at the scale given?
Surely costs associated with this structure are proportional to the size of the structure.
The prototypes, it must be acknowledged, only averaged 30 kilowatts, but this scaled up version is reported to be costing an enormous amount, even currently scaled back versions up to AU $250 million to build.
I'm not an engineer, but it seems excessive. Why not just build a small one that works?
Well actualy it is pretty inneficient i'ts like 1% effifient or something but the real great thing about it is that it is clean and cost effective two things that were very hard to combine in the past.
you can increase efficiency by using a heat exchanger to pre-heat incoming air. pass the incoming air through the chimney as it goes down. heat loss will be less.
the plant has high start up cost, but over its lifetime negligable maintenance cost. so over a long period of time it is quite profitable. compare to coal-fired plants which are very expensive to operate over long time (mining cost, scrubbing, etc.).
There is one tower under construction in Arizona right now, and its HUGE! Yes, its by EnviroMission. USA! USA! USA!

If Australia succeeds in this, I hope America (my country) will be inspired.

theres a Project in Australia with the Envro Solar Tower Project.

Yep guys. My exact idea. This is already done, and works really well. But instead of warm air you can also use mirrors that heat water.

u should also put thermoelectricity modules on the end of the tower generating even more energy

Has there been any movement on this project? I can't seem to locate any updates on the Enviro-Mission web-page.

because of the ratio price/profit.. In spain there is already a prototype, you can find it here in youtube. This is the future, clean and efficient..

nice video, and a rock-solid concept, but i was hoping for more info, like when and where your going to build one.
