Interesting list; nice mixture of music. Talented artists all! Surprised that Queen did not make your list but hey, it's all subjective, right? Nice to see Jack White at #50, very talented dude. And Lou Reed with the Velvet Underground. Did you consider Fine Young Cannibals? Nice work!

Nice varied list of your fav's. Not easy when you can only choose 1 album from an artist, Here's my top 11: 1- Forever Changes (Love), 2- White Album (Beatles),
3- Truth (The Jeff Beck Group),4- Tres Hombres (ZZ Top),5-Electric Ladyland(The Jimi Hendrix Experience),6- Easter Everywhere (13th Floor Elevators),7- Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus (Spirit), 8- All Mod Cons (The Jam)9- Saints And Sinners (Johnny Winter), 10- Dragline (PAW)11- Neither Washington Nor Moscow (The Redskins)
1- The Downward Spiral (NIN) 2- The Doors (The Doors) 3- The Velvet Underground & Nico (The Velvet Underground) 4- Exile On Main Street (The Rolling Stones) 5- Appetite For Destruction (Guns N' Roses) 6- Are You Experienced? (Jimi Hendrix) 7- Passion (Peter Gabriel) 8- Third (Soft Machine) 9- Kind Of Blue (MIles Davis) 10- Rock Bottom (Robert Wyatt) 11- A Love Supreme (John Coltrane) 12- Dark Side Of The Moon (Pink Floyd)

Blood sugar sex magik- Bigger fan of RHCP in my younger days, but as a youth I did enjoy this album.
Albums I'm not familiar with:
Come on Over - yeah, I know more songs on this than I care to admit on it (though 12 of the 16 songs were released as singles, that's ridiculous). And normally I would ridicule such a choice. However, I'll say the album has at least one very good cut, and Mutt Lange is an excellent producer.
I''ve been going on far too long, so I'll keep this short:
The Bodyguard and Back to Black - overrated garbage from two overrated druggies.
Pump- Aerosmith is overrated, but my bigger problem is that you have an Aerosmith album but no Stones album. When Aerosmith is a second rate ripoff of the Stones. Joe Perry is a good guitarist (though no Keith), but Steven Tyler looks and sounds like a "Mick Jagger" from a Stones cover band that plays down at the local bar.
Slippery When Wet-Kind of a cross between Bryan Adams and Aerosmith criticisms. On the one hand the music is pleasant, but pop hair metal is not exactly a well respected genre (and it probably shouldn't be) so it shouldn't be on a serious music list. But if you are going to pick from that genre at least stick to Roth-era Van Halen, without which I don't think Bon Jovi exists.
great list. the queen is dead is my favourite album of all time. altho there are much better beatles albums in my opinion. also ther shld be some pixies in this list
I know this is an old comment, just for some reason I decided to comment today.
Pixies are good, Though often I can find them lyrically irritating. Nonetheless, Doolittle is not too far outside the top 50 (55-60 depending on what mood I'm in).
I guess I'm bored at work today, I replying to all these old comments.
Between the Bends and OK Computer, its like splitting hairs. Some days I like one more than the other. But I think on more days I like the Bends more.
Kid A on the other hand, I'm not a big fan of. 9 years since that came out (wow I can't believe its been that long), and I thought it would grow on me but it never has. The only songs I really dig are "The National Anthem" and "Idioteque"
It is also amazingly unselfconscious. Take a song like "Boys" can you imagine any male act doing that song? But the Beatles just plow right on through it as if it were nothing. By the time With the Beatles came out they were well aware of their place in history and every subsequent album through Sgt. Pepper became more and more self conscious.
I knew Please Please Me would be a strange choice. Sure Rubber Soul is prettier (my 2nd favorite Beatles album) and Revolver (3rd)is edgier, but Please Please Me has a freshness and energy that after all these years still shines through. The energy is relentless. I think in part because most of the album was recorded in one day and they had not gotten bogged down by being the Beatles. They were just four lads from Liverpool, finally getting to record an album.
Are you kidding me? First off is there anything in the list that would suggest putting a Yes album on there?
I don't like prog rock. (Pink Floyd is something else to me and even than when they get too progressive I find it irksome.) I have listened a few prog rock bands and most of what I hear I can't stand. I have listened to 5 bands I call prog rock and while Yes falls in the middle but only cause the bottom two are so horrible.
Id like to tell a quick story: When I was a freshman at UT at Austin, I took a history of Rock class. My teacher (not even a real professor, a grad student) loved Progressive Rock he thought ELP was fantastic and was dismissive of Elvis (Who he liked to refer to as pasty and bloated for his later years) and the Beatles. Dismissive of the Beatles???!! Are you freaking kidding me?? I frankly want to murder him for ruining what should have been a great class.
Sorry, I have to post ignorance of a Night at the Opera. I don't have the album and have never listened to it. I like Queen, I do, but all I have from them is the Platinum Collection and it only has two songs from A Night at the Opera and I've never have heard or read anything that piques my interest. Frankly, while I find "Bohemian Rhapsody" to be a fine song, I find, shall we say, a little over the top especially the middle section.
Sorry, I don't have space in the info to put the songs. And I'm not to sure about editing the video, but if there are any particular one you want to know, just ask!
The reason I put "best" over "favorite" is that "favorite" makes it more personal, which is less interesting than "best" I have to at least act like I know more than you, otherwise why post the video. In fact, I should have left off "IMHO" and stated the list was definitive and all who disagree are "morons" that would have elicited a greater response. ;)
Is my list really more of a favorite list? Probably. But do I think that my albums (especially toward the top) really are the best? You bet.
I seen this video like 10 times already. I dunno what is it. Although I have not heard many of these albums I really like all that I hear. I'll be making my top albums soon too.
PS: I think I have read the video's info like 3 times. I guess im looking for more
congrats your video rocks. although i do not like every selection, I respect your choices and praise this excellent effort. I make videos of the best songs in rock in spanish. making videos, decent ones, takes time. You stole the idea of making the best 50 albums lol. have a good day
I dig a lot of the albums you chose per band, picking some of the lesser known, more creative albums like Village Green and The Clash. And Big Star. But I can't stand Rage. Marketable subversion. Same with Guns N Roses. And Green Day? Coldplay? Oasis? There is much better recent music. These musicians aren't creative, they just extract pop stereotypes from the 60's and water them down. Also, when will we get over DSOTM and listen to some real progressive music. It's so self indulgent.
A very thoughtful and interesting comment. I'll take some time to think about what you've said and respond. I have one question: Are you saying DSOTM is self indulgent? (which is what I think you are trying to say) or are you saying real progressive music is self indulgent as if it is a good thing? (which is the way it is written). Anyway, what is "real progressive music"? I personally can't really stand what I've heard, only Gabriel era Genesis I even find palatable. (Including some PF albums)
I've defended Guns before in one of my other comments, so I won't do it again, but what exactly do you not like about them? This actually should be easy, even I who really likes that Appetite can find many faults with them, but I'd still like to know.
ok, after about 20 minutes of comparing the two album covers I finally found the #7. - Just genius. I encourage everyone else to try to locate it.
I enjoyed your list because you seem very knowlegable on music. If were to make a list, it would have to include albums that really stole a particular year (everyone's must have). For example, in 1980 - everyone had a copy of REO Speedwagon's Hi-Infidelity album. Just heard it the other day for the first time in 20 years. Every song is good.
Springsteen is my all time favorite. I like your selection for Springsteen - but I believe it may break your "no compilations" rule. For a Springsteen selection, most people would put "Born to Run" as their selection. I would probably say 1980's "Nebraska" album. The Rising would also get consideration from me because no other album has yet to capture the essence of 9/11 the way this album.
As i was first viewing your list, I was thinking the whole time that a Stones album would be #1.
Live albums are exceptions to me, especially for somebody life Bruce, whose live work is so much better than studio work. The other live album, Social Distortion's "Live at the Roxy" plays more like a compilation, but even than most of the songs are better live.
I do, however, arguably break the rule once, but I would be surprised if anybody can find it. If somebody does, please post it. Thanks.
As far as Bruce's studio albums are concerned, BTR is the best, but I feel its half the greatest album ever and half only okay. Nebraska is my second favorite and much more consistent than BTR. Rising is probably 6th favorite studio album after BTR, Nebraska, Greetings, Darkness and BITUSA.
I like your list. I like how you slid in the numbers to the album covers. Is the U2 album Achtung Baby? Where is the #7 on the cover? I couldn't locate it.
While I like rock best, I do think there are a lot of talanted rappers out there. The best rap album may just be Jay-Z's Black Album. Every song is great. I also love the original RUN-DMC with "Rock Box" - Great album.
I'm glad there is no country. The average rapper has much more talent the the average country artist.
Yeah, its Achtung Baby. And yes the "7" is there. Its certainly the most difficult one to see. In fact, you probably need to have the cover next to it to find it. If you still can't find it, just post another comment and I'll tell you where to look.
Well like I tell everybody, to each their own. Again, like rap, I'm not well versed in country. But also like rap, I do appreciate the genre, especially classic country. Merle Haggard, George Jones, and especially Patsy Cline (whom in my opinion, is the second best female singer after Arethra Franklin) are all extremely talented.
My favorite country performer is Willie Nelson. While not as talented as those above, I can't help but really like Willie. He wrote "Crazy" which in Patsy Cline's version is my favorite country song. Strong proponent of Marijuana. Stephen Colbert called him "The Ambassador from Weedville" which is just hilarious. Just a cool guy all around.
Sure, if you want the CDs your best bet is of course ebay, but that is going to be expensive-I paid something like 50 bucks for 2 CDs. My advice it so to do a google search for backstreets MP3 bootlegs (should be first link) and find it there 2/5/75. Unfortunately, they don't have Crystal Cat's version (which is probably the best sounding) but they do have 3 versions and hey it's free! I also highly recommend 09/19/1978 Passaic Night one of Bruce's best shows and also better than studio album.
Well, I thought it was a pretty good list, although I was surprised to not see a few albums that I enjoy myself. For instance, I would've picked a different beatles album, probably sgt. peppers or abbey road, but it's your opinion and I respect that.
I am a big fan of Abbey Road, probably my 4th favorite Beatles album, however (and I know I'm in the minority here)I'm not a big fan of Sgt Pepper. I'm not saying I don't like it, I do, (All the Beatles albums are good), but of all the Beatle albums it is the most dated.
Y should any rap be put on here, rap is all crap, talentless, Now i'm gonna get a load people sayin how I don't know what i'm talking about, old school, modern, it's all SHIT! There is not a rap album on here cuz there isn't a good one! Take that a shove it up your Arse!
To each his own, but almost everybody who makes comments like that are ignorant fools. I wish I had a more of an appreciation for the genre. You may think all rap is crap, fine, whatever (its just your opinion), but like all genres of music it takes talent. If it was all so easy everybody would do it and be successful.
Derek and the Dominos "Layla and Assorted Love Songs" Mainly Eric Clapton with important contributions from Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers. "Layla" is of course the most famous song, though I think "Why Does Love Have to be So Sad" is the best one.
well, my plan was to give you feedback on the rap albums you chose (the description made me think you would choose some), but as you didnt, i can only say thx for mentioning coldplay
i got a question though: this list is really rock n rollish, why didnt you pick some soul or jazz or music from other genres (or RAP)?
If this list were to extend to a 100 then Public Enemy's It takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (#60) and Dre's the Chronic (#93)would appear on the list. Doggystyle is close too, and if I could make an album from the best songs from that and the Chronic I could make an albums well in the top 50.
now you are saying that if you would pick rap albums you would choose the chronic/doggystyle? i agree on public enemy, but you should take ericB/Rakim or Nas instead of dre/snoop!!!!
thats the way it is, dre and snoop are not comparable to legends like rakim or krs one and their influence on hip hop!!
Influence of my youth, I was 12 when the Chronic came out and watched a lot of MTV at the time. So that music is ingrained in me. I admit I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to Rap. Nonetheless, I can't see how songs like "Gin & Juice" and "Nuthin but a G thing" aren't masterpieces. Similar, to my all time favorite rap song "Mind Playing Tricks on Me" by the Geto Boys.
I have wanted to get Paid In Full and BDP's Criminal Minded just have never gotten around to it.
As far as soul is concerned I would say take a look at note number 5 in the description. For instance song wise my number 8 favorite song is Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" and number 23 is James Carr's version of "At the Dark End of the Street" If I allowed compilations there would certainly be more soul. Nonetheless, there are a few albums just outside the top 50. Aretha Franklin's I never Loved a Man... (55) Marvin Gaye's What's Going On (74) and Stevie Wonder's Innervisions (83).
Now jazz is something else, Jazz is more of a passive musical experience at least to me. I don't enjoy a passive musical experience as an active one. Which is why I would never put something classical (which I appreciate musically, and derive enjoyment out of) or god forbid something ambient like Brian Eno (which bores me to death).
i dont think jazz is more passive than rock, it only depends on your attitude towards the music. thats like saying e.g. only music with loud, aggresive sounds and a voice screaming into a mic is active
Pretty solid list, some seem out of order somewhat... but ya gotta yank the guns n roses album, and honestly out of all the beatles albums, please please me??
Yes, GNR should definitely be on the list. Its the best hard rock two guitar attack album since the Stones in their heyday (don't say Aerosmith, please). Axl for all his obnoxiousness, sings with a Johnny Rottenesque attitude that gives the music even more edge. Also most amazing to me is that most of the songs are anti-drug (admittedly hypocritical). What at first sounds like they are celebrating, they are actually deriding, which gives the lyrics a sense of depth lacking in most of GNR peers.
I only have Music From Big Pink (The basement tapes too) and I've tried to get into it but it has never gotten a hold of me. Sometimes it takes a while for me to "get it". #1 Exile on Main St for instance I hated when I first heard it and Van Morrison's Astral Weeks took years for me to begin to appreciate it.
I've had Music from Big Pink for many years now, so I doubt I'll get it. But today when I get home, I'll give it a listen. Its been a while since I've heard it except of course "The Weight" Thanks.
You most likley have heard them, but if not Music From Big Pink is an amazing album, it is my 2nd favorite of all time, and The Band(album) is in my top 10, very good albums.
For instance, when I was a sophomore in college, I found a top 50 albums list that is now at fagel dot com. I knew and liked many of the albums on the list, but there were others I was unfamiliar with and because I liked what I saw I was sure I'd like some of the other albums.
While I disliked some of the albums (Brian Eno's Another Green World, is a style of music I don't think I could ever listen to). And others are just okay (Genesis Selling England by the Pound, for instance.) Others though are on this list. Big Star (#38) I had barely heard of at the time (only cause of the Replacements song "Alex Chilton"). Another one is David Bowie, whom of course I had heard of but the list convinced me to listen Ziggy Stardust (#33).
i think led zep IV ought to be higher, it was an amazing collection of music, but i am pretty biased. lol. great collection bud. i liked the van morrison too, And it Stoned Med doesnt get alot of press but its an amazing song.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about Led Zeppelin. On the one hand they can be extremely exciting band, such as "Rock and Roll" or "When the Levee Breaks" but I can't stand a song like "The Battle of Evermore" which also paved the way for a lot of bad music from other bands. Zep rises above it mainly because they were such awesome musicians. Unfortunately, Zep IV is the only album that gets it right to me, "Houses of the Holy" is the only other one that I listen to regularly. Thanks.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it COULD be a lot of Beatles and Dylan, if I chose to repeat artists which I didn't specifically for that purpose. (5 each from the Beatles the Stones, 4 from Dylan)
ras, im currently compiling a list called 'youtube's favourite album' and im choosin 14 videos like this to put on the list. just to let yer know im using yours. thanks for the video =)
Why not? Sure it's derivative (the Buzzcocks, I admit are very similar), but Dookie is a lot of fun. There are almost no weak songs (I could probably do without "Pulling Teeth", but thats a minor squabble) and the energy is relentless, if there is an album I put on to keep me awake it's this one.
Thanks for the comments everybody, many of the ones I thought were hard to read are in the (I admit very long) "about this video". The Springsteen album is Crystal Cat's Main Point Night from February 5, 1975. I love Bruce but most of his studio albums are weak in comparison to live shows. If there are any other specific albums that aren't clear, just let me know.
best album > "FRESH" SLY AND FAMILY STONE 1973

But You Like:
"My Aim is True" more than "This Year's Model"?
"Tonight's the Night" more than "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere"?
"Moondance" more than "Astral Weeks"?
this "I don't know where you found" bootleg from Bruce more than any of his regular record?
"Achtung Baby" more than "War or "Unforgettable Fire" ?
"The Clash". yeah best of punk but, you know.. LONDON CALLING man! ;-)

Wow. There is a lot of things I would to say, so I will break it down to 3 separate posts.
The Good:
Rubber Soul-IMO second greatest Beatles album.
Nevermind- On my list, so I think its good.
OK Computer- the line between it and the bends is so close.
Back in Black-just outside my top 50.
Reasonable:
Elvis Presley- Can't knock an Elvis classic.
True Blue- If I'm going to pick a Madonna album that would be it, though I prefer her as a singles artist.
Ras137 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@ViolaXZ Reasonable (continued)
Ras137 1 year ago
@ViolaXZ
Albums I'm not familiar with continued
Arrival- I make it a point to not listen to ABBA. Remember "ABBA is for wimps" (Persepolis)
Homogenic-I respect Bjork as an artist (she certainly does things differently), I've just never much liked what I heard.
Dislikes:
Reckless- The music is pleasant enough. BUT ITS BRYAN ADAMS. No serious music list should have Bryan Adams.
"This isn't the first bad thing to come out of Canada. Let's not forget Bryan Adams!" - South Park Movie
Ras137 1 year ago
@ViolaXZ

Sorry, one last comment to the last album:
Slippery When Wet-Kind of a cross between Bryan Adams and Aerosmith criticisms. On the one hand the music is pleasant, but pop hair metal is not exactly a well respected genre (and it probably shouldn't be) so it shouldn't be on a serious music list. But if you are going to pick from that genre at least stick to Roth-era Van Halen, without which I don't think Bon Jovi exists.

great list. the queen is dead is my favourite album of all time. altho there are much better beatles albums in my opinion. also ther shld be some pixies in this list
friedgold69 2 years ago
I know this is an old comment, just for some reason I decided to comment today.
Pixies are good, Though often I can find them lyrically irritating. Nonetheless, Doolittle is not too far outside the top 50 (55-60 depending on what mood I'm in).

ok list..... comments-
"Ten" should be higher ( at least it is for me)
a bunch of artists i've never heard of are on here lol
you like Hole? me 2! Courtney Love is iconic! :)
Green Day sucks
Nevermind was amazing! NiRvAnA rocks!
Guns N' Roses suck
Bob Dylan is way to highly looked at, when in actuality he sucks, same for the beatles
There's no Queen on here....
ARE U STUPID?

green day and gnr are the shit dude. so is nirvana. and the beatles and bob dylan are so lame. and yeah wtf n queen?

At least do Ok Computer or Kid A for Radiohead!
iklock 3 years ago
I guess I'm bored at work today, I replying to all these old comments.
Between the Bends and OK Computer, its like splitting hairs. Some days I like one more than the other. But I think on more days I like the Bends more.
Kid A on the other hand, I'm not a big fan of. 9 years since that came out (wow I can't believe its been that long), and I thought it would grow on me but it never has. The only songs I really dig are "The National Anthem" and "Idioteque"
Ras137 2 years ago
Thanks for the compliments.
I'm curious to know which ones you view as generic? I find that to be an interesting adjective to use.
Ras137 3 years ago
It is also amazingly unselfconscious. Take a song like "Boys" can you imagine any male act doing that song? But the Beatles just plow right on through it as if it were nothing. By the time With the Beatles came out they were well aware of their place in history and every subsequent album through Sgt. Pepper became more and more self conscious.

Please Please Me??????? Thats the Beatle u picked?
4pmac 3 years ago
Yeah, Please Please Me. This has been questioned before and I've answered it. But I'll repost my comments to the earlier comment.
Ras137 3 years ago
I knew Please Please Me would be a strange choice. Sure Rubber Soul is prettier (my 2nd favorite Beatles album) and Revolver (3rd)is edgier, but Please Please Me has a freshness and energy that after all these years still shines through. The energy is relentless. I think in part because most of the album was recorded in one day and they had not gotten bogged down by being the Beatles. They were just four lads from Liverpool, finally getting to record an album.

Where's "Close To The Edge"?
nignog87 3 years ago
Yes?
Are you kidding me? First off is there anything in the list that would suggest putting a Yes album on there?
I don't like prog rock. (Pink Floyd is something else to me and even than when they get too progressive I find it irksome.) I have listened a few prog rock bands and most of what I hear I can't stand. I have listened to 5 bands I call prog rock and while Yes falls in the middle but only cause the bottom two are so horrible.
Ras137 3 years ago
1. Genesis (Can be good at times. Especially Selling England by the Pound)
2. King Crimson (In the Court isnt too bad)
3. Yes (Better than those below, but that's not saying much.)
4. Jethro Tull (Yikes!)
5. ELP (The thought of Keith Emerson causes me to shudder)
Ras137 3 years ago
Id like to tell a quick story: When I was a freshman at UT at Austin, I took a history of Rock class. My teacher (not even a real professor, a grad student) loved Progressive Rock he thought ELP was fantastic and was dismissive of Elvis (Who he liked to refer to as pasty and bloated for his later years) and the Beatles. Dismissive of the Beatles???!! Are you freaking kidding me?? I frankly want to murder him for ruining what should have been a great class.

Where's A Night At The Opera??
That is an incredible album. Please reply because I would like to know if you just forgot about it or you don't like it or whatever.
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
Sorry, I have to post ignorance of a Night at the Opera. I don't have the album and have never listened to it. I like Queen, I do, but all I have from them is the Platinum Collection and it only has two songs from A Night at the Opera and I've never have heard or read anything that piques my interest. Frankly, while I find "Bohemian Rhapsody" to be a fine song, I find, shall we say, a little over the top especially the middle section.
Ras137 3 years ago
I recommend listening to it. There are great songs like The Prophet's Song, '39, I'm In Love With My Car, Love of My Life, Death On Two Legs.
Check out some of the songs and if you like them, buy the album ;)
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
Put the names of the songs please.
Gothbag 3 years ago
Sorry, I don't have space in the info to put the songs. And I'm not to sure about editing the video, but if there are any particular one you want to know, just ask!
Ras137 3 years ago
i think "favorite" is definitely more appropriate than "best." who can say what "best" is anyway. only a fool would try!
tykemeawaywyou 3 years ago
The reason I put "best" over "favorite" is that "favorite" makes it more personal, which is less interesting than "best" I have to at least act like I know more than you, otherwise why post the video. In fact, I should have left off "IMHO" and stated the list was definitive and all who disagree are "morons" that would have elicited a greater response. ;)
Is my list really more of a favorite list? Probably. But do I think that my albums (especially toward the top) really are the best? You bet.

PS: I think I have read the video's info like 3 times. I guess im looking for more
fgvmochica50 3 years ago
congrats your video rocks. although i do not like every selection, I respect your choices and praise this excellent effort. I make videos of the best songs in rock in spanish. making videos, decent ones, takes time. You stole the idea of making the best 50 albums lol. have a good day
cesaramoga 3 years ago
I dig a lot of the albums you chose per band, picking some of the lesser known, more creative albums like Village Green and The Clash. And Big Star. But I can't stand Rage. Marketable subversion. Same with Guns N Roses. And Green Day? Coldplay? Oasis? There is much better recent music. These musicians aren't creative, they just extract pop stereotypes from the 60's and water them down. Also, when will we get over DSOTM and listen to some real progressive music. It's so self indulgent.
obie1963 3 years ago

Ras137 3 years ago
Good job on the list. Would've preferred OK Computer for Radiohead though =P
atsinpa94 3 years ago
ok, after about 20 minutes of comparing the two album covers I finally found the #7.
Every song is good.
ambridge91 3 years ago
Springsteen is my all time favorite. I like your selection for Springsteen - but I believe it may break your "no compilations" rule. For a Springsteen selection, most people would put "Born to Run" as their selection. I would probably say 1980's "Nebraska" album. The Rising would also get consideration from me because no other album has yet to capture the essence of 9/11 the way this album.
As i was first viewing your list, I was thinking the whole time that a Stones album would be #1.
ambridge91 3 years ago
Live albums are exceptions to me, especially for somebody life Bruce, whose live work is so much better than studio work. The other live album, Social Distortion's "Live at the Roxy" plays more like a compilation, but even than most of the songs are better live.
I do, however, arguably break the rule once, but I would be surprised if anybody can find it. If somebody does, please post it. Thanks.
Ras137 3 years ago
As far as Bruce's studio albums are concerned, BTR is the best, but I feel its half the greatest album ever and half only okay. Nebraska is my second favorite and much more consistent than BTR. Rising is probably 6th favorite studio album after BTR, Nebraska, Greetings, Darkness and BITUSA.
Ras137 3 years ago
I like your list. I like how you slid in the numbers to the album covers. Is the U2 album Achtung Baby? Where is the #7 on the cover? I couldn't locate it.
While I like rock best, I do think there are a lot of talanted rappers out there. The best rap album may just be Jay-Z's Black Album. Every song is great. I also love the original RUN-DMC with "Rock Box" - Great album.
I'm glad there is no country. The average rapper has much more talent the the average country artist.
ambridge91 3 years ago
Yeah, its Achtung Baby. And yes the "7" is there. Its certainly the most difficult one to see. In fact, you probably need to have the cover next to it to find it. If you still can't find it, just post another comment and I'll tell you where to look.
Ras137 3 years ago
Well like I tell everybody, to each their own. Again, like rap, I'm not well versed in country. But also like rap, I do appreciate the genre, especially classic country. Merle Haggard, George Jones, and especially Patsy Cline (whom in my opinion, is the second best female singer after Arethra Franklin) are all extremely talented.
Ras137 3 years ago
My favorite country performer is Willie Nelson. While not as talented as those above, I can't help but really like Willie. He wrote "Crazy" which in Patsy Cline's version is my favorite country song. Strong proponent of Marijuana. Stephen Colbert called him "The Ambassador from Weedville" which is just hilarious. Just a cool guy all around.

Ras any info on how to get that springsteen live bootleg at the main point??
bobkanavel3 3 years ago
Sure, if you want the CDs your best bet is of course ebay, but that is going to be expensive-I paid something like 50 bucks for 2 CDs. My advice it so to do a google search for backstreets MP3 bootlegs (should be first link) and find it there 2/5/75. Unfortunately, they don't have Crystal Cat's version (which is probably the best sounding) but they do have 3 versions and hey it's free! I also highly recommend 09/19/1978 Passaic Night one of Bruce's best shows and also better than studio album.
Ras137 3 years ago
Well, I thought it was a pretty good list, although I was surprised to not see a few albums that I enjoy myself. For instance, I would've picked a different beatles album, probably sgt. peppers or abbey road, but it's your opinion and I respect that.
sonofaqwerty 3 years ago
I am a big fan of Abbey Road, probably my 4th favorite Beatles album, however (and I know I'm in the minority here)I'm not a big fan of Sgt Pepper. I'm not saying I don't like it, I do, (All the Beatles albums are good), but of all the Beatle albums it is the most dated.
Ras137 3 years ago
Y should any rap be put on here, rap is all crap, talentless, Now i'm gonna get a load people sayin how I don't know what i'm talking about, old school, modern, it's all SHIT! There is not a rap album on here cuz there isn't a good one! Take that a shove it up your Arse!
punkass1357 3 years ago
To each his own, but almost everybody who makes comments like that are ignorant fools. I wish I had a more of an appreciation for the genre. You may think all rap is crap, fine, whatever (its just your opinion), but like all genres of music it takes talent. If it was all so easy everybody would do it and be successful.

Derek and the Dominos "Layla and Assorted Love Songs" Mainly Eric Clapton with important contributions from Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers. "Layla" is of course the most famous song, though I think "Why Does Love Have to be So Sad" is the best one.

klaussgroi 3 years ago
well, my plan was to give you feedback on the rap albums you chose (the description made me think you would choose some), but as you didnt, i can only say thx for mentioning coldplay
i got a question though: this list is really rock n rollish, why didnt you pick some soul or jazz or music from other genres (or RAP)?
hiphopmetaphysics 3 years ago
If this list were to extend to a 100 then Public Enemy's It takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (#60) and Dre's the Chronic (#93)would appear on the list. Doggystyle is close too, and if I could make an album from the best songs from that and the Chronic I could make an albums well in the top 50.
Ras137 3 years ago
okay wait..
now you are saying that if you would pick rap albums you would choose the chronic/doggystyle? i agree on public enemy, but you should take ericB/Rakim or Nas instead of dre/snoop!!!!
thats the way it is, dre and snoop are not comparable to legends like rakim or krs one and their influence on hip hop!!
hiphopmetaphysics 3 years ago
Influence of my youth, I was 12 when the Chronic came out and watched a lot of MTV at the time. So that music is ingrained in me. I admit I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to Rap. Nonetheless, I can't see how songs like "Gin & Juice" and "Nuthin but a G thing" aren't masterpieces. Similar, to my all time favorite rap song "Mind Playing Tricks on Me" by the Geto Boys.
I have wanted to get Paid In Full and BDP's Criminal Minded just have never gotten around to it.
Ras137 3 years ago
As far as soul is concerned I would say take a look at note number 5 in the description. For instance song wise my number 8 favorite song is Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" and number 23 is James Carr's version of "At the Dark End of the Street" If I allowed compilations there would certainly be more soul. Nonetheless, there are a few albums just outside the top 50. Aretha Franklin's I never Loved a Man... (55) Marvin Gaye's What's Going On (74) and Stevie Wonder's Innervisions (83).
Ras137 3 years ago
Now jazz is something else, Jazz is more of a passive musical experience at least to me. I don't enjoy a passive musical experience as an active one. Which is why I would never put something classical (which I appreciate musically, and derive enjoyment out of) or god forbid something ambient like Brian Eno (which bores me to death).
Ras137 3 years ago
i dont think jazz is more passive than rock, it only depends on your attitude towards the music. thats like saying e.g. only music with loud, aggresive sounds and a voice screaming into a mic is active
hiphopmetaphysics 3 years ago
Pretty solid list, some seem out of order somewhat... but ya gotta yank the guns n roses album, and honestly out of all the beatles albums, please please me??
pheejay23 3 years ago
Pfft... please. Appetite For Destruction deserves a top 10 place.
DamnShitTaco 3 years ago
Congratulations Pheejay23 you are the first person to say what I thought would be the two most questioned aspects of my list.
Ras137 3 years ago
Yes, GNR should definitely be on the list. Its the best hard rock two guitar attack album since the Stones in their heyday (don't say Aerosmith, please). Axl for all his obnoxiousness, sings with a Johnny Rottenesque attitude that gives the music even more edge. Also most amazing to me is that most of the songs are anti-drug (admittedly hypocritical). What at first sounds like they are celebrating, they are actually deriding, which gives the lyrics a sense of depth lacking in most of GNR peers.
Ras137 3 years ago
I knew Please Please Me would be a strange choice. Sorry, no Band.
Ras137 3 years ago
I only have Music From Big Pink (The basement tapes too) and I've tried to get into it but it has never gotten a hold of me. Sometimes it takes a while for me to "get it". #1 Exile on Main St for instance I hated when I first heard it and Van Morrison's Astral Weeks took years for me to begin to appreciate it.
Ras137 3 years ago
I've had Music from Big Pink for many years now, so I doubt I'll get it. But today when I get home, I'll give it a listen. Its been a while since I've heard it except of course "The Weight" Thanks.
Ras137 3 years ago
You most likley have heard them, but if not Music From Big Pink is an amazing album, it is my 2nd favorite of all time, and The Band(album) is in my top 10, very good albums.
Beefgog 3 years ago
I think these lists are stupid, all albums there are great.

Your a dick, we like to talk about music too.
Beefgog 3 years ago
Fair enough, to each his own. I think the point is to discover new music, especially if you like much of the list.
Ras137 3 years ago
For instance, when I was a sophomore in college, I found a top 50 albums list that is now at fagel dot com. I knew and liked many of the albums on the list, but there were others I was unfamiliar with and because I liked what I saw I was sure I'd like some of the other albums.
Ras137 3 years ago
While I disliked some of the albums (Brian Eno's Another Green World, is a style of music I don't think I could ever listen to). And others are just okay (Genesis Selling England by the Pound, for instance.) Others though are on this list. Big Star (#38) I had barely heard of at the time (only cause of the Replacements song "Alex Chilton"). Another one is David Bowie, whom of course I had heard of but the list convinced me to listen Ziggy Stardust (#33).
Ras137 3 years ago

I have a lot of mixed feelings about Led Zeppelin. On the one hand they can be extremely exciting band, such as "Rock and Roll" or "When the Levee Breaks" but I can't stand a song like "The Battle of Evermore" which also paved the way for a lot of bad music from other bands. Zep rises above it mainly because they were such awesome musicians. Unfortunately, Zep IV is the only album that gets it right to me, "Houses of the Holy" is the only other one that I listen to regularly. Thanks.

Wegenschimmel 4 years ago
Ras137 4 years ago
Thanks for the comments everybody, many of the ones I thought were hard to read are in the (I admit very long) "about this video". The Springsteen album is Crystal Cat's Main Point Night from February 5, 1975. I love Bruce but most of his studio albums are weak in comparison to live shows. If there are any other specific albums that aren't clear, just let me know.
