I prefer that women and girls wear dresses. Yet, a nice pantsuit can be very becoming. I understand that much of today's apparel is "unisex", if not in form, at least in style: t-shirts, blue jeans, etc. But a dress: that is one of the first things that separates the "goils" from the men. When "those were the days", "goils were goils (sic) and men were men. Females should be feminine and males masculine. I think a man in Edith's pantsuit would have looked bizarre--even in the 70s.
@rofflemows2 ...those freedoms being women's freedom to dress, work, behave, and live as they want, without taking other people's views on "right vs. wrong, Masculine vs. Feminine" into consideration.
it's just funny that some of the most "manly" men i've known are the VERY same ones want their wives and girlfriends to peg them. if you don't know what "pegging" is...i suggest you look it up >.>
so much for "traditional" male and female roles <.<

This is why I stopped watching this program at the time. I get it that it was supposed to be funny but it wasn't to me. Those of us that lived around a man's ego didn't think it was cute. Our opinions, like Edith's, didn't count. It was just sick. I remember when one of my female teachers wore a pant suit for the first time in the history of the school. 1972. Men would come down to the end of the hall where our class was and peak their heads in. She'd say, "boo!" A red letter day! lol
I love edith! I think she has so much courage and love towards archie. If i were her i would probly cry when archie would say those mean things about me. Go Edith!
Archie’s bigotry any cynic may have defines the play; Mike was pretty good and enlightening in his role as son-in-law and Gloria was terrific when she cries with her mouth wide open but Edith was not only the human factor in the play but the greatest of them all, in the role of a downtrodden wife maybe the greatest ever in any such play or role.
That pant suit on Jean was beautiful. That yellow sack cloth made her look so silly, but that suit was what made her look dashing! She was a beautiful woman and that outfit showed just how sophisticated she was!
Gloria torturing Archie in this episode is comical...lol...kinda reminds me of me and my dad in a way...Edith looks stunning and very classy! Great colour on her!
gloria is cute with her hair up

@slmacph nothing wrong with a woman wearing pants. a woman in pants can look feminine.

@tranurse They look more feminine when the pants are around their ankles though. ;-)

@slmacph ah, the good old days...polio...malaria...the Cold War...the Depression...institutional racism/sexism...segregation...colonialism...
name ONE thing that's better Than, that's better Now. and don't say it's because "i prefer women in skirts" because that's one person's opinion.
times change--get over it. the only certainty in life is changeability. we either roll with it or get rolled over BY it.
i'm male, and i say long live women's individual freedoms.

Hard to blame Archie. 1976 was not one of the Big Apple's finest eras.

I agree. I think that a pants/jacket outfit like that looks good on a woman. Makes her look REAL sharp.
