yeroukh - this is exactly the question I keep on asking myself - where the hell these guys can re-live this when they end their careers. I also started it too late to race for real, moreover I live it the desert area and any visit of real slopes cost me a lot. however - beside the Music - Skiing is my second nature and Downhill is something I would really want to try while I am still alive!!!!
I would really want to go the same track they would have for the cups, even if NOT THAT SPEEDY!
I've trained for downhill and I've never race it 'cause it scared the freakin' +$!@#&* out of me and I was too cautious and couldn't qualify to race. Wish they had Super G back then- might have done that. People- you can't even begin to understand the craziness of Downhill from just watching it on TV. Cheers!
I love skiing, and I guess I know what you are talking about. (I never made any attempts to race, I gave myself a chance with skiing very late. But I'm grateful to my buddy who "kicked me: into it.)
I envy these guys. On the other hand once they end their career I wonder how or where can they enjoy skiing like they used to? How can you enjoy skiing on regular slopes with hundreds of other people when you used to fly in 150kmph?
