The megapixels do not matter much. A camera can have 20 megapixels versus one with 10 that has a much better sensor and quality. Even ten megapixels is plenty.
The G11 may also have better ISO settings, less noise, etc. It's pointless nowadays to look for megapixels on a camera unless one is going to may very large prints.
Although, the G11 may not have many advantages versus the G10, so it would be worth it to save some money and go with the G10.
@ieden5432 I got the G11, it is a bigger sensor that packs a Digic 4 sensor for better Pixel density count, bassically, less pixels more picture quality through a better sensor. Pixels is only what you can see, but a better sensor allows you to see with more clarity.
The Canon G10 is a little bit superior than the Nikon P6000.
You understand that these types of camera are the Prosumer types, meaning that it is for the avid photographer that needs the functionality of a DSLR in a compact body.
And you might consider the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3. Very good in Low Light conditions, the downside is it has no Optical View Finder and the Zoom is limited to just 2.5x. But picture quality is far better than the two camera you mentioned.
The Panasonic Lumix G1 is a micro four-thirds (4/3) camera which means you have the quality of an SLR in a small-lightwieght compact body. The Lumix G1 is more flexible that the G10 as the G1 offers interchangeable lens.
So for my opinion, the Lumix G1 is great if you're not concerned with your budget.
If anyone's interested, I bought one of these a month ago and am delighted with it. You need to know what you're doing - don't use Auto or P if you can help it, try and use Manual exposure and post process RAW in the very good software for mac and pc provided. It is a bit noisy at iso above 200, but that's the only drawback.
LIke I said not wonderful, in fact my 1.3 MP ancient olympus does better there, but that's the price of shoving 14MP onto a small sensor! Yes a DSLR will do better in low light, but you have to carry around a far larger, more obtrusive camera. I don't mind the low light noise in exchange for convenience.
i think the ccd measurement being in inches through her off. if it was in mm she might have realized that the screen is much bigger then 1 inch ,also the metric unit for ccd size is in Square MM not the old tube sizes like 1/1.7"
This dreadful quality "review|" has the power to turn Cannonb'ds business off. She sounds like she does not understand the script she has been asked to recite. Notable is her referring to the 1/1.7" lcd screen. Duh!
WHICH POINT AND SHOOT CAMERA SHOULD I BUY AROUND 180-220EURO ???? PowerShot SX 110 IS OR FUJIFILM F 100FD IS BETTER??? GIVE ME SOME HELP AND IDEAS THNX
Do research. That's what everyone else did. We can;t help you determine your camera based off of your budget. It depends on what you need/want in a camera and what features you're looking for. SInce your name is xxxxxEmoKidxxxxx, I assume you wont need something to elaborate to take those overhead, self held, myspace pictures.
Judging by her accent, I'd say she's not very familiar with the Imperial system:) You're right though, The screen on the back of that must be around 3 inches.
Good. If you want a quality camera, buy a DSLR, forget these so called "higher end" point and shoot cameras. They don't do anything more than the regualr PASs.
that CAN be true... but this digic is a rangefinder and it takes brilliant photos. i just bought it and taking 1/30 shuts with iso 800 at f3.5 at dusk is nothing to sneer at for a fast camera. theres a dial for ISO, backlight comp, and a wheel that you can swap between aperture, shuts, and manual F (if you dont wanna use AF), or 2 saved presets for those last 3 functions. theres also a telephoto lens and a speedflash you can buy for it. like hell you cant get amazing pics from this.
An "amazing shot" has infinitely more to do with the moment and photographers skill than what camera.
DSLRs usually sit at home or a car trunk. Serious photohounds often carry a high end compact such as Canon G or Lumix DMC-LX (for obvious reasons).
Even when I carry my DSLR I carry a compact. The G9 fits a Pelican 1020 Micro Case in pants cargo pocket or even many button down shirt pockets in a zip lock bag.
I agree with you. You really can not compare. This is a POCKET camera! Of course it is hard for that camea to do the same job as a very large DSLR camera!!
I was waiting until the g9 gets cheaper...but know for me there is no doubt that the g10 has some really incredible features which the g 9 doesn't: Just the one with the wider angle an with this the bigger amount of light which comes through the objective is worth to go for the g10.Here in Germany it will be available for 449 Euros, officially for 550.
Correction: The size of "1/1.7 in" is the that of the sensor, not the LCD screen in the back! The size of the LCD screen is 3 inch.

Eh...The FZ18 is NOT smaller 117.6 x 75.3 x 88.2 mm G10
109 x 78 x 46 mm, Lumix is 10g heavier.
The Lumix can not save RAW format, has no flash shoe, can only do 10fps in movies (really bad) has a smaller sensor
1/2.5" G10 has 1/1.7" more zoom I can agree, but better, forget about it. When it comes to button and handling. Canon is a killer and it's built lika a tank!!!!

Get a DSLR if you're going to spend that kind of money. A nikon d40 is about the same price and it's wayyyy better.

Thanks for the advice.

Er what about size, Not everybody wants to carry a heavy DSLR with lens, DSLR biggest downfull is size and weight.
coaldust01 3 years ago
I was talking about her inability to differentiate between the size of the SENSOR and the size of the LCD. Not the camera itself.

Correction: The size of "1/1.7 in" is the that of the sensor, not the LCD screen in the back! The size of the LCD screen is 3 inch.

Too many megapixels for such a small sensor.
Too big and heavy to carry around comfortably, even securing it with your belt.
Too expensive for what it is.
Just my opinion.

It's the best compact on market at this moment. Furthermore, the sensor it´s not too small as in the ultra compact cameras.
