  • I suspect you misspoke. I doubt cap & trade legislation actually got voted on in the Senate. More likely, there was a filibuster threat by the minority party.

  • The structure of the Puerto Rico vote actually increases how much say the people have (your video is my only source of knowledge). If a majority want to remain a territory, then you never get to the second vote so everything is fine. Essentially, this is all 3 choices on 1 ballot. If you have a majority that want to change status, then people who would prefer to remain a territory still have a say as to which route the country goes.

  • i disagree with your definition of libertarianism... i think it stems for your defining what it isn't instead of what it is...

as libertarian isn't anarchy, but it's close; advocates small government. well you can have many forms of small government

but for defining libertarian i would assume you use the root word Liberty with the belief that we still must have a government.. but what is that government for? well given that Liberty is the root word, government is there to protect liberty

  • Democracy denied is most of the people wanting universal health care and not getting it because the health insurance companies own the politicians. Occams razor - the simplest explanation is usually the best one.

  • What you're describing from 8:00 on isn't Libertarian Paternalism, it's straight-up Paternalism.

In its truest form, Libertarian Paternalism says the government will suggest _but_not_restrict_. And it acknowledges that some form of suggestion is inherently present one way or another anyway. For example, you could ask "should gay marriage be allowed" or "should gay marriage be banned" and the phrasing can win points for one over the other. So in that sense I'm not entirely cold to it.

  • @notme222 Libertarian Paternalism isn't possible. It's either Paternalism, or libertarianism. Cass is just giving paternalism a velvet glove. As for me I am entirely cold to it.
