this remains the very best version of oscar aleman's tune ever done on guitar...there are so many other junky arrangements out there - this one has everything, including the kind of elegance aleman would have wished
The excellent guitar. Because I love him. Bass dance. A lovely melody. And swing! The feeling that you insufler in your music, gives the impression of a certain facility. I know that this apparent ease is an illusion. It's great. Be nice is let me know when you post a new video. Your guitarist friend of France. Joel.
Thanks for your comment - its not easy this one - yes the treble and balance is not very good on the recording - its not your speakers. Thanks again - Johnson
That sounds like an incredibly complex arrangement, hat's off to you for performing it impeccably! Only a minor thing, the melody is a bit hard to hear, especially the first part. Maybe it's the miking. Thanks for posting it!
@johnsonhogg lol sounds like you have my problem im never happy with what i do but i can promise you the only reason this dosent sound clear is the way this is mixed dosent sound very well eq'ed but your playing is solid its a shame bout the sound but i still listened all the way through its an awsome song
Fabulous! I just noticed you are picking up above the sound hole. Perhaps this makes the strings more flexible under the picking fingers. That would make sense. Picking down near the bridge I get more fingernail hangup because the strings are tighter tension there. So much to learn. Have fingered thru this tune, but the basic riff is where it's at and don't know if I'd ever be able to do it so fluently as you. thanks again for preserving this very valuable guitar style - your friend dave
Snap! I'm just learning Martin Taylor's version of this tune. Seems to me that yours is the more difficult one, but as usual, you seem to have no trouble with it.
I've no workshop weekend this year (couldn't afford it), but Dakota Dave Hull is coming over in early October for a concert plus 2-3 hour workshop. So you're welcome to join again if you're anywhere near Ireland.
Thanks for the invite Ron - we'll see - Still have fond memories of Ireland - not an easy piece this one - I havent tried the Martin Taylor one - Glad that you are both keeping well Ron and thanks for the kind comment - Johnson
Great job! I certainly never managed to play it like that. I remember having trouble to maintain concentration cause after one hurdle is taken and the next one is waving in a threatening way from the horizon, then ofcourse I would bugger up something easy in the middle and then make a complete mess of the next difficult bit. Excellent playing here! Cheers!
Thanks very much for your kind words and encouragement Ton. I know you see the mistakes but there again I am not you and am merely trying to copy your style - I am extremely grateful that you have left a comment - it does mean lots to me - Johnson
I still have a letter Ton wrote me in December 1975 (in response to a quizzical letter I wrote to him) where he gives me the tab to THIS tune as a holiday sort of gesture. Your rendition here is absolutely amazing. Never thought anyone but Martin Taylor could do this - I think Taylor sort of "folk processed" Ton's arrangement (does not sound as good musically, imho). Ton didn't say about using Capo II - I should have picked up on that. Again KUDOS, KUDOS and great respect!
Thanks for your kind words David - I suppose the tab is worth something these days. - I have listened to many versions of this tune on the guitar and do particularly like this version - it seems to have a lot of bounce and a certain thing about it - thanks again David - appreciate it.
a votre sante Johnson van Hood, absolutly very good playing this song, i wish i can play this tune like You, maybe i have injectet to much 0,5liter vuvucelas...
It forgives for the errors in my writing. I am of Brazil I do not say English and I used the translator of geogle to write. You burrow very. Pleasant… very Very good… Success and everything of good…
A thrill to see as well as hear this performed. Dare I say that you play the first section with more rhythmic drive than TVB?
