  • From emotional and from acting. Jeremy Brett is the closest to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle description.BUT, we must admit that for the choice of the places and time, Sherlock Holmes(2009) win it. But still, Jeremy Brett is Sherlock Holmes in our mind & heart

  • @WillCerf

I prefer "A Game of Shadows" to the 2009 film myself. Jared Harris made a fantastic Moriarty! :-)

  • @rebeccawilde: yes, and its so comforting to think of Jeremy in that eternal spirit who's memory will never die. :*)

  • Wonderful emotional video:) I especially felt a great touch of sadness on that very last shot of Jeremy smiling..... This world lost the very best Sherlock Holmes and a beautiful man.

  • @gypsycyn Thank you! Yes, couldn't agree more ... even my mother was saying just yesterday, Jeremy Brett was the best Holmes, there is no other Jeremy, and he's not dead he's just looking down.

  • Wow, this makes me emotional and speechless. Jeremy Brett is the "The Sherlock Holmes" of all-time, and I love it how Holmes helps Watson to recover. And I got shivers when Holmes strikes his hand on Watson's face and cheek, just a lovely and worthy friendship. You did a splendid job, keep it going. :'-)

  • @TetskeG

Thank you! I remember being blown away by the waterfall scene the first time I ever saw it. So it was a joy to make this video, to capture the great friendship between Holmes and Watson. HAPPY NEW YEAR! :-)

  • @rebeccawilde Thanks, I was also blown away when I saw the waterfall scene and I cried when Holmes wants to call Watson, but he couldn't. You to a happy new year. :-)

  • I liked the song you used in this from the moment I heard it. I am so finding the MP3 to this. Great video to, I always loved the scene of Sherlock's supposed demise and his triumphant return.

  • fantanstic, man, well done

  • You are a respectful and agreeable of Jeremy Brett fan. You got really a beautiful mind about him. Please let me know more about yourself. Thanks.

  • Man, he was gorgeous. Miss him so much…

  • why this oxford suit 4 doesnt sounds like the original? i like alot more the ine u use in your video if you can tell me where u get it it will be great :) thanks

  • My God. The music is perfect for this, just miraculously well-suited to all of the expressions and emotions in this scene. I love this adaptation, because we get the privilege of seeing Holmes' feelings, whereas in the books we only really know what Watson was thinking and feeling. What fantastic characters, what brilliant actors, and what an impassioned and lovely piece of film this is.

  • Ho, Oxford Suite

  • Beautiful and touching video! I watched the Granada series back when I was a teenager, and I immidiately fell in love with Jeremy Brett's performance as Sherlock Holmes. He is THE Holmes for me, and yes, he made me wish I were Holmes' friend in real life too!

I also love Ed Allyne Johnson's music, and I am surprised to see you've used this piece on a Holmes video, because Ed Allyen's violin pieces always make me think of Sherlock Holmes and his world!

Thank you for sharing this amazing clip!

  • Ah, my favorite episode. I think this episode, more then the others, shows nearly all of Holmes different facets in one episode. His humor (the book salesman), his compassion (reviving Watson), his tenderness (hugging Mrs Hudson), his righteous anger (nearly clobbering the bad guy at the end)........should I go on? LOL

  • best sherlock ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This scene, in Doyle's short story "The Final Problem" (and in the representation in the series too) always gives me a great desire to cry T_T

I would like that Doyle loved Holmes instead of hate him.

  • Sherlock, return, return. . .Like the music.Music iswhatis left.

  • Sherlock, return, return. . .Like the music.

  • Love this. The part where Holmes almost cries out to Watson gets me every time :'(

  • Thank you for this very moving fan made music video. It is a wonderful tribute to the TV show in general and to Jeremy Brett in particular. I am sure, had he been alive today, he would have been deeply touched by such fond regards. Videos like these help keep his memory alive.

    Bravo!

  • @death2utubenow

    Thank you. :-)

  • Thank you for this.

    I fully understand your sentiment.

  • What beautiful emotions you are describing, and how shared they are by me and probably so many others. And how beautiful, mood- and thought-provoking song you chose. I felt as lifted as I did the first time I discovered that the Reichenbach Falls were not the end after all!

I think these emotions are also provoked by Jeremy Brett's performance. He must have identified with this too.

"But you have a kinder heart"

  • @homosapiensgraecus

Thank you for your lovely comment. :-)

  • When Sherlock returns and Watson faints I'm never quite sure whether I'm going to cry or fall off my chair laughing.

Then it goes to the flashback and I decide I'm going to cry :'(

What with the music and all the emotion, this is the very definition of beautiful.

  • @gomegirl3

I am very pleased to know you like this. I saw the video running through my mind as I listened to the music, then I got straight on the computer and set to work. I had made the video within the hour.

  • Excellent song

  • Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed by more actors in film or television than any other character. Yet, with all due respect to his many predecessors, and his successors, Jeremy Brett remains peerless - the definitive, the epitome of Sherlock Holmes.

  • I always hated how in the book Sherlock just sort of left without a glance back. Even though he is Holmes and cold and calculating and all, you'd think he'd have some qualms about leaving his best and only friend mourning his death... Which is why I love so much that in this version he almost calls out to Watson but stops himself. It's much more real and heartbreaking that way

  • I adore Jeremy Brett, the best Sherlock Holmes in history. Thanks for upload this.

  • @Barlovento81

    My pleasure. :-)

  • That was beautiful. And when I watched the episode where he has supposedly died, I cried, and cried, and cried, for days .It was horrifying. But when I watched the "Empty House", I was so happy I jumped probably 7 feet in the air. It was amazing.

He was about to say, "Watson! I'm alive!" It's so EMOTIONAL. And the look on his face when he's watching Watson, it's so deep. His only friend in the world thinks he's dead, he had no one then to talk to, he's alone. It was so hard for him to do that.

  • bering in mind im 16 and listen to loud stuff.this music is a genuine marvel. an extraordenery pice of video editing. i tip my hat toy sir/mam

  • It's like Darth Vader and the emperor.

  • Oh my, thank you! I can never get enough. An artful little gem you've done.

  • Beautiful. Your images and music fit perfectly. This vid has got me back into JB as Holmes - thank you!

  • i love ure vid...i consider S.H as my second father...sorry to tell u this but it's oxford suit 1 not 4..

  • HES ALIVE :DDDDD

  • This video is so beautiful! The music and this scene with Holmes and Watson fits so perfectly...really made me cry ;_;

  • @rebeccawilde what mistake did they do there? xD I always find it so funny!

  • i love how you can see in the cabinet window holmes taking off his disguise ! LOL! :) Oh, i am SO glad that i found these! Thank you to all the SH/JB fans who share all these wonderful videos with us! I love SH to the point where i can quote his lines from the books! I play this game with my siblings where they open one of the books to a random page, read a sentence and have me guess which mystery it is. i always win! :) <3

  • The 2009 movie was pathetic. I love this series!

  • Jeremy Brett is awesome.

  • I look at 4:45, with the music and the smile, and I know without a doubt that Holmes loves Watson with all his heart. Call it friendship love, romantic love, sexual, brotherly, I don't care, but he loves Watson dearly.

  • Jeremy Brett is the true Holmes for me!!!

  • one of my favourite episodes

  • one of my favourite episodes

  • @shrew76

I support you. I have over the years seen several actors 'playing' Holmes but without 'bite'. Jeremy Brett made the Holmes role great. I mean GREAT

  • Yes I definitely do remember rejoicing at the fact, that our Mr Holmes was back! One of my most favourite episodes, it's just a shame I didn't discover Jeremy's portrayal much sooner :( He will definitely always be the Sherlock Holmes for me, without a doubt. What an amazing actor and an amazing man, I love him so much :) Wonderful video too, it captured all the emotions and beauty of that pivotal moment, thank you :)

  • 3:46 - 4:00 truly breaks my heart every time!

  • I had all this hope in my heart after watching The Final Problem that somehow it wasn't true, and how I contained my excitement when I saw the above, god knows lollage!

  • Also the Granada TV production of this show was absolutely 'spot on'. From the Victorian scaffolding in the streets, the boys clearing up the horse mess and the costumes it was absolutely superb. The words spoken were exactly as in the books. A fitting production indeed for such a great actor and a wonderful, wonderful man. God bless Jeremy xxxx

  • so so terribly sad when he nearly calls out to watson but doesn't :( love this episode thanks for posting...

  • Although we an celebrate the return of Holmes, this episode must be the worst of the (excellent) lot. It is all melodrama and lacks completely the severe reasoning of cause and effect that Holmes says are the only worthwhile facets of a case.

PS Jeremy Brett is the only Sherlock Holmes.

  • I read Sherlock Holmes stories when I was 11 years old. When I thought he was dead I felt sadness as if someone close and really familiar to me died. But when I read "Empty house" I was so happy that he was still alive so I understand and share your feelings :)

  • "Do you remember the first time you watched "The Empty House" and rejoiced in the fact Sherlock was not dead after all?"

    Yes I do! I was 10 yrs then :)

  • Jeremy Brett is the best Holmes ever! :D

  • EPIC!!!! JB is the best!!!

  • Something about deserted buildings just makes you crave expository monologues, doesn't it? =D

Sorry, that's just the late January talking.

Anyway, fantastic video. I must say, Brett is the one and only Holmes, but the fellow playing Moriarty is EXACTLY how I pictured him. Just... wow.

  • i remember this episode....i love when watson faints...i was pleased to see holmes there

  • @rebeccawilde ...i do remember watching the empty house for the first time and finding out sherlock wasnt dead...Jeremy lives on :-) Jeremy brett should have beeen nighted or something...He rocks

  • Happy New Year to you too:)

  • "Jeremy Brett" is the best Sherlock Holmes.

And this episode is the best one ever.

Very nice video & Very nice music.

    Thank u!

  • @bleuchiva ...i agree...

  • BRETT IS THE BEST SHERLOCK EVER!!!!!

    (hello from Lisbon, Portugal)

  • @shrew76

I support you. I have over the years seen several actors 'playing' Holmes but without 'bite'. Jeremy Brett made the Holmes role great. I mean GREAT.

  • 2:27-2:57 How triumphantly he stands there...

    One and only.

  • what's the name of the song?

  • I love this guy. A kick ass Holmes. WAY WAY better and true to the authors original creation. New movie was too chicken to show he used a needle and cocaine. They instead had him as boxing for fun and wagers. Also made him a slob. And not the least bit surly. I hate criticizing other attempts at Holmes. BUt your right Scourtney. Brett spoiled it for everyone after him.

  • aye, jeremy brett was sherlock and i thank him 4 all my memories and what a fantastic actor!!, god bless hin rip jeremy

  • The only problem with Brett's Holmes is that he spoiled me with his performance.:P Now, whenever I watch a Holmes movie with a different actor, there's just something off about it...not that they're bad but just not *the* Holmes.;)

  • one: best episode ever.

two: what you said about Brett's Holmes is spot-on, and you're not alone. The connection, the feeling of safety/comfort.... to this day that is how I feel about him. One of my greatest regrets is that I discovered him a few years after he left us, and never had the chance to tell him how much he meant to fans like me.

    cheers, and lovely vid.

  • Same here!

I discovered him some 6 months ago. A few months after that I heard he died more then 10 years ago... He will never know what he means for us. :(

  • jeremy brett is king of sherlock holmes .

  • Love the video, and the music is superb...

    Thankie

  • Why he didn't alert to Watson?

    Sorry for my bad English.

  • He wanted to be thought of as dead as he feared his life was still in danger.

  • Most people don't realize the true strength of Holmes isn't just his skills and abilities, it's the fact that he's a deeply flawed character. Those are the best heroes in mythology, film and literature

  • @ChronicFallacy Precisely. Perfect and too good or characters are uninteresting and boring. The greatest characters of literature are those who are not simply black and white, good or evil. The greatest characters are the grey ones. When one reads Les Miserables, the character of Javert marks, or Dostoidesvki characters.

  • He was a truly magnificent actor.

  • 3:40 nél dönt úgy, hogy eltűnik.

  • Jeremy Brett is a great actor. He is the best Sherlock Holmes and the film is very good.

  • It is quite possible. Bi-polar people can find many ways to self-medicate before the diagnois and tobacco was his. He had a marvelous talent. He was big in Great Britain but he should have been huge all over the world even before Holmes. Someone said that if he had lived he would have made a wonderful villain. Think of Jeremy performing the ultimate hat trick and appearing as Moriarty! He was Watson in stage in the late '70s.

  • You chose the music very well, it brings out all the feelings you can see on his face when he decides not to tell Watson... Great video :)

  • Yes, i know. The he suffered very much with his wife´s death.

  • Jeremy Brett was homes. End of story.

  • Thank you very much for this beatufitul, beautiful vid!!! *****

    Unforgettable Jeremy "Sherlock" Brett ♥♥♥

  • The brilliant, the never to be forgotten Jeremy Brett. I cannot watch Sherlock Holmes if he is not playing the part. I well remember the outcry when he was chosen to play the part. Most people did not like that idea at all, Said he was too dramatic as Holmes. But, he outshone every other actor who has ever played Holmes. The series was beautiufl, outstanding, and took me back to those dark Victorian days. The costumes, the scenery, the acting, and of course, Brett. How I miss him.

  • Are you saying the public didn't like the idea that Jeremy Brett would act as Sherlock Holmes? I, for my, would say there are not much actors (other people either) who has such amazing charism that is typical for Sherlock Holmes too.

  • Yes, that is correct. There was something of a public outcry in the papers when it was revealed that Brett would be playing the part of Holmes in a new period drama series. For my mind, this was nothing short of artistic snobbery. Brett went on - in my mind - give the greatest portrayel yet of Arthur Conan Doyle's Holmes.

  • that's true!!! :) I did add it earlier to some tribute but it would be fantastic if Jeremy Brett would be able to come back from the death like Sherlock Holmes seems to have done. Actually fate could be so weird. Jeremy Brett acts the death and raise from Sherlock Holmes and not long after that, he himself dies. Why?!

  • Never again will we see his like on our screens. We can only but enjoy his performance and these outstanding episodes.. I think Brett died of cancer, although I am not sure of that, but I am almost certain he did.

  • outstanding! thank you! what music is this?

  • Great! jeremy brett is absolutely fabulous when he's about to shout "WATS...!!" and interrupts because he thinks of the consequences. Look at his eyes and expression at the moment, when he realizes he has to vanish and can't tell his best friend. What an actor!

  • Best. Holmes. Ever.

  • Great work. You should be noticed for this

  • Haha, I started laughing at Brett's gesture for a hug from Watson with that little smirk of a smile on his face. It only grew louder when Watson fainted.

  • Outstanding work, Rebecca! Great image-to-music editing on your part. In fact, well done on all fronts. Thanks for sharing this.

  • What music is this? *****

  • What wonderful music.

  • The one only Mr. Holmes,no doubt.Jeremy Brett was so mystifying actor and my S.H. dvd:s are on power play for sure.

  • I love these stories, but how could he really betray Watson here? This is a big hole in Holmes' logic.

  • can anybody please tell me whats the episode called where a man i think with a wooden leg takes out an air rifle from his wooden leg and assembles it and shoot's a doll that is moving by the window if Holmes house and then Holmes comes and put's the bullet out of the doll ? sorry for the bad English

  • I think you might be talking about "the final problem"

  • it is the empty house. your english is good

  • which song is this? off the album i mean.

  • Comment removed

  • 3:46 Jesus Christ...

  • I have seen them all..and Brett is without a DOUBT the best. I miss him..but these episodes are priceless to have here. I have my JB SH fund for the collections ready to go..For those that have any doubts, fear not, you are seeing the BEST ever protrayal of SH.

  • to anybody under 40, JB is the only Holmes alot of us knew.....growin up i thought this dude is so fkin cool..........i often wondered if being that damn cool was even legal. The JB version of holmes made me take up the psudeyonym Sherlock Homeboy.!!!

  • To me personally Brett was the best Holmes ever, grew up watching him on ITV, ana amazing actor and a tremendous loss that he passed so young :(

  • One of the greatest scenes ever at the start

  • REBECCA u keep up the good work...u r the ultimate brett fan I have seen so far...

I would like to present the Honary Jeremy Brett award to you on behalf of the Baker street in my mind

    lol

    keep up the work

  • re:sign of four mistakes...i was watching it last week but at the time of boat scene..i had to leave home so missed it...they telecatsed it again but at 1 am...hope to catch sign of four soon...

I agree with u rebecca the acting was too amazing...i mean jeremy makes me feel like if there was a sherlock holmes...it was him....so unique and doing justicce holmes...harwicke also was a cool actor...was meant to be dr watson...

  • How come at 1:21 Brett's hairs are all loose and coming on his forehead and after a brawl with Moriarty and finishing him off...at 2:30 is hairs are back at their usually position...gelled together so decently!Director should hace noticed it coz as a Sherlock Holmes fan it is degrading for Holmes that his fans dont use their science of deduction!!

  • Very clever with that haunting but gentle melody. Five stars to your growing galaxy of twinklers.

  • rebecca i need to say that the feelings you described in the commentary are exactly like my own ! when i was far younger i was gripped as i watched the previous episode as he fell into the waterfall - his acting even back then left an impression upon me. he truly brought holmes to life in a way that amazes me. he was a gifted man who i identify with and he has inspired me in strange ways - as though i wish to make more of my own self.

thank you for your videos - they're wonderful ! :)

  • This is a GREAT video!

  • This was by far the best Moriarty as well. The Granada actors were all chosen so well. Mycroft was also the best!

    Unbelievable talent.

  • Rebecca your Brett page is AWESOME! I bought both part 4 and part 1 suites as I my ear was not good enough to tell the difference! They sound so similar! What is your story do you live in the UK ? How'd you get to be such a fan of Brett ? You can PM me if you want. New to this site so I don't know how it works. Thanks for the wonderful videos!!!!

  • This is oxford suite part 1 I believe.

  • Does anyone know where I can get this music from?

Also, does the music not actually appear in the episode (I haven't watched it yet), or has it been added in by rebeccawilde?

  • The music isn't in the original episode and you can buy the track on Amazon.

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Sherlock Holmes is a dilemma. He has no feelings, but that is what makes him so damned fanciable!

  • What a beautiful video! Beautiful music as well!

  • If Only, indeed *sobs* Beautiful work, 5 stars! *grabs tissue*

  • ahhh you've obssessed me now with ed alleyne-johnson! hes so cool!

  • Ahh awsome! And yes he is... ^__^

  • This part is so funny! I knew Watson was going to freak out! some how I just knew Holmes was going to be there!

  • I remeber watching this as a little girl and I cryed my heart out just as I did when my Grandfarther read me the book's, this was alway's my most loved episode of Sherlock Homles. I had only recently discovered that Mr Brett suffered with MD. My best friend has MD as do I so I can undertsand a little why his portrail of Homles was so intesne and captivateing, as an actor you use what you have to hand and Holmes sudden mood swing's are chartristic of MD in some way's.

    well done :D

  • This is such a sweet tune and awesone scene. Me and my mates play this tune and watch a slide show of our camping pictures when weve had a few beers. it's so fitting. lovely music. he was great as Sherlock Holmes. MD or not.

  • may his soul rest in peace

  • "But you have a kinder heart."

I can imagine how true that would be =)

  • I love the bit near the end where he says he didn't call out to protect Watson etc, but in the next breath he says that one of the henchmen spots him alive.

Class quote from him,"I took to my heels and covered 10 miles" 10 miles!!! did anyone see his shoes! Winkle pickers, he covered 10 miles in winkle pickers! Jesus Christ what a guy this Sherlock Holmes is! Awesome, where would you get it. I'm going to get a pair of them winkle pickers and take up cross country running :)

  • Beautiful music. Beautiful actor. Love this show so much. So sad to hear that he sufferd from M.D. Suppose it helped that he could use it.

  • Yes, Jeremy was beautiful inside and out. :)

I'm sure actoring was a good outlet for him in someways, though it appeared to have it's dangers at times as well.

  • Agreed. Though sometimes dangers can be overlooked. It is when we become blind to the obvious threats to our own consious thoughts, and more importantly our subconcious nightmares, is when we should stand at attention.

  • I love "The empty house"! It is one of my favourits. It is is so sweet how Watson reacts and to know that Sherlock Holmes didn`t die!

I wish Jeremy would still be alive... =((

    ---

    Come Watson, come!

    The Game is afoot!

Not a word! Into your clothes and come!

  • Someone can tell me the name for this song? please

  • It's Oxford Suite Pt 4 :)

  • I know this video since one month about,

I love coming back look at it sometimes. Music facine me

  • When I see the beginning I also need a brandi, always it has impressed me very much. Great video and good music ;)

  • I really do love this vid, my friend! ^_^

    Splendid!

  • next week when we watched another episode the next week it was the center of gossip insead of the usual "whos going out w/ who" crap. Jeremy brought soem sense into our school! lol This video is just pure and utter genius. thank you so much for it

  • that is so awesome- you get to watch Jeremy in school...

  • what a fabulous video ^.^ this is one of my favorite episodes. i love watson's fainting scene, and the violin is quite beautiful. my favorite scene from this episode i think was when sherlock said. "but you have a kinder heart." fabulous ^.^

  • Jeremy Brett steals.....He steals women's hearts. Period.

  • BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT !!! I love the Empty House and that fantastic fainting scene!! Got this bookmarked on my ipod touch!!! Music (clever to do this with volins !!)and narration both fitting and well timed ! Bravo !

  • best Return vid!

*puts on to listen to music while doing something else*

  • Whether he will be back,I was,am and will be here. Love Jeremy Brett and Sherlock Holmes as a whole.

  • i just luv this vid! im reading all of the stories, and the empty house is my fav! and this vid captured all of my favorite moments

  • *happy sigh* *favourite*

its just perfect. :-) the music, the scenes...

there are many attractive people- Jeremy *has* a beautiful soul- you put it very well, i am attracted to Jeremy in the same way.

  • I am pleased to say that you are the reason for me creating an acount on youtube. I would like to say how much I enjoy your videos. The blurb you wrote about our dear Jeremy was excatly how I feel. Wonderful. Thank you agian. You'll be seeing me comment on most of your videos.

  • It's amazing - what you said expresses exactly my feelings about Jeremy and Sherlock (love them both since childhood) and about identifying with someone (not as a fan, but in a subtler way), finding encouragement in them; I am a biographer and spend most of my time with people who lived more than 200 years ago: they've helped through and taught me so much, just as if they were here with me now! Feel free to have a look at my vids if you please, and compliments again for this one!!! Great!

  • You are sooo right!

  • I am speechless! The fusion of these scenes to the music is so touching! What a beautiful video indeed!

  • wonderful music!!! It suits the video perfectly. I love it!

    thanks a lot!

Watching your video it was a great chance to rewatch some of my favourite Granada pieces.

  • Excellent!

    Love this video,

    Thank you for posting!

  • This is so wonderful and endearing!! Thank you!

  • I'm speechless...

    Wonderful! Love it very much!

    Thanks a lot, my dear!

  • wow.

  • My book of head-board is the Canon and entertains me discover the differences between the series of Granada Television and Conan Doyle wrote. Wonderful music, I listen it often... now I will do it remembering your video. Thank you ;)

  • A beauty of a video! Ha, yes, I remember the first time I read EMPT. Unfortunately for me, I was introduced to Mr. Holmes, watched him die (or so I thought) and come back to life in the span of a week. I was an emotional mess! Blame my Literature of Mystery and Horror Class. -chuckle-

I swear that every time I watch this scene I get all teary (or just flat out burst into tears). Jeremy's just so... well, brilliant. He's got so much intensity, so much emotion. A spectacular video. <3

  • Thank you so much for your comments. Jeremy was said to be so far removed from Sherlock Holmes in reality. Unlike Sherlock the real man was said to form strong emotional bonds to people he loved, and was of a deeply sensitive nature and cried easily. In this episode unlike any other he got to be more himself and made Sherlock more appealing/human in the process - showing his love for Watson. I like to see the underbelly of people, fictional and real. :)

  • A very beautiful video. As usual a super video from you. I am running out of praising words, but I will try to find some new.

BTW So you also change the soundtrack when you watch pictures or videos. I do that a lot.
