From what I can see, mostly Aikido technique are similar with Shorinji Kempo. But for me, Aikido are really works when in a actual fight. Why, the attacker are really wanted to hit the defender,,therefore easy for the Aikido to throw or to lock the attacker.
Aikido does have some efficient techniques, but it's an incomplete style.
The knowledge in aikido can be used to perfect other martial arts like karate and judo etc. or the other way around. But on the street... it won't stand on it's own.
But it's great for aerobics! And your mom doesn't have to worry you get beaten up at practise! You decide what you take seriously of what I just said ;)
I think people should understand what Aikido is, It is a martial art that was created to harmonize with Ki, in other words not to compete, but to create harmony with your opponent. There are over 10 thousand variations of moves based on 150 or so basic principles, One move is not going to work in every situation. As with any confrontation, it is not the sword, but the person who dictates the outcome.
Guys i practice Krav Maga and i do really wonder if these wonderful techniques do work against a powerful quick jab! I really have my doubts with all the respect to Aikido practicioners. It maybe more efficient in other situations but if someone is quick it's very hard to get control of his quick fist with both hands. Don't you think my friends?
i practiced Krav Maga in IDF and a couple of years before.
Now after 8 years of aikido practice, I can say that aikido techniques do work with any kind of strikes. Pay attention, not against but with. Do you see the difference? :)
tacticmonster...i'm the author of these clips and i'm with you. Of course this technique is not going to work against a quick jab! There is just no time to do it. This is just ONE technique against this TYPE of attack. Against a skilled boxer/striker, my strategy would change in the moment. Possibly after I jacked in the face. Sir, I know you might not believe it but I've trained with boxers/strikers/mma dudes. There are things in the aiki realm that are effective. Otherwise I'd quit.
krav maga is a very different martial art all together..in krav maga you are looking to hurt or kill your attacker. you strike vital points such as eyes , throat, and groin. it is the art taught to israle military soldiers. aikido on the other hand you are looking for a different outcome for your attacker. you are not looking to hurt them at all. your goal is to come out of a situation with no injury to your attacker or yourself. it takes years to develop those skills. hurting someone is easy.
Quick jabs only work if the target also adopt a "boxing" stance. If you just move away from confrontation the attacker will need to drop his stance and run after you. He will then try grab you, at this point you can any any aiki technique you like with devastating effect.
If one want to brawl in the street, terrorise strangers, be the king of the school yard, then a other martial art is better. But then, to be a violent douche, it is easyer to just buy a gun.

Very good. I'd like to see you catch a boxer's rapid punches, or those of a Muay Thai practitioner.
You have to be braindead or severely deluded to believe this shit is applicable in the ferocity of unarmed combat.
Keep wasting your time, Gary.

In 99% of the time when faced with a combat situation the attacker is seldom trained in anything but "watching fighting movies"...
Ofc Aikido would never work in say a XMA/MMA situation in the ring. It's not its purpose and wasn't designed for that.
If you want to be taught how to brawl Aikido is not for you.
