This show is funny, considering my great grandmother Evalynn O'Donnell was born in DW and the man she married ( my great grandfather) would have been considered an Al Swearengen type since he was a conman card dealer back in the day.
kind of weird that 'nigga general' is sitting off to the side. i barely noticed him, lol. i LOVED deadwood and have seen every episode. and i loved seeing 'joanie stubbs' and 'reverend ray' in the blindside, always cool to see the actors in different settings. i looove timothy olyphant (watch him in 'justified' now), but ian mcshane stole the show...he made deadwood =)
It isn't funny. The brilliant script wouldn't count for anything if the actors couldn't do it justice. They're all mostly respected character actors, hence why the show won awards for casting.
That's happenin' in most of the movies, but if you think for a moment, characters, behaviors, reactions are created through the actors. Many good scripts can be easy fucked-up by the actors, I think...
So Al Swearengen didn't show up himself and just sent his three fuckin' henchmen and one cocksuckin' whore to the fuckin' conference. How typical of him - that god damn snake!
But what the hell Mr.Ellsworth and that Jane thing are doing together? They must be part of a motherfucking plot...
Ian McShane (Swearengen) was busy in London making "Scoop" with Woody Allen and Scarlett Johansen; Tim Olyphant (Bullock) didn't bother to come; and John Hawkes (Sol Starr) was here the week before, but had to leave to make "Miami Vice" with Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. But I consider Robin Weigert (Calamity Jane) and Paula Malcomson (Trixie) to be A stars.
Al, Bullock, Mr. Utter...where the Fuck are you?
Love you guys too!

How many recognize the guy on the left with the mustache (Titus Welliver) as MiB (the Man in Black) from Lost?

Whilst McShane, Olyphant etc put in great performances...for me, Robin Weigert was the star of the show.
Especially after witnessing her demeanour in this post... she never said boo!.
Talk about a contrast between her true (reserved)personality and her profession!... An amazing talent!!
And I also think that everyone on this guest panel were A grade stars full stop!
