Somewhat embarrassing 'high-school'- like and definitely an alien in the Monty Python universe. How this got in their show must be due to sloppy control of the executive production at the end of the Monty Python era and is a very good example of bad american influence on true humorous qualities.
Don't understand why Noel Gallagher got sued by Neil for happening to write the song "Whatever" that put the same 3 chords together for the intro. Apart from these 3 chords "Whatever" sounds nothing like this track (Afterall these 3 chords are a fairly standard progression used in loads of songs) Noel said he'd never heard this song before he wrote" Whatever" and i for one believe him. Loads of tracks use the same 3 chords including Greenday and were never sued.
@steuenschannel The story seems to change a lot - and note that Neil did not "sue" Noel for money. After the verbal and melodic similarities of the two songs were acknowledged (the exact same words, rhythm and notes up to the "whatever" part), Neil got a cowriting credit. @graytart The words are definitely not the same and the chords arent exactly the same either its actually a fairly standard chord progression used in loads of songs. The rhythms similar but thousands of other songs also have the same rhythm. Your right about him not being sued though, i should have said neil receives 50% of all the royalties for the song when its played.
Im surprised Neil didnt have to pay Sesame St for ripping off the part at 1:23 though!
I am SO happy you posted this! neil innes is an amazing singer and i love monty python so much! i watched this show on TV last night! love this song :) i didn't know he had his own band either until my dad told me

Neil is from the Bonzo Dog Band. The BBD folks worked closely with Monty Python. The BBD were true innovators. This is a wonderful song!!
