This is so not-even-close. How could the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre not even be there at all. Even no. 2 was brilliant. Or look at Childhood vs. Parental fears in Steven Spielberg and Toby Hooper's "Poltergeist". Then there's the 2nd coming of the Anti-christ child in "The Omen." Or fear of hell itself as in Clive Barkers "Hellraiser". Were these movies even CONSIDERED?

BTW, I remember an old (probably english) scary movie. Two young woman enter an old castle, at the beginning one of them is shot down with a huge crossbow - incredible (similar to the famous !The Omen!). Then I stopped watching (I was 12 or so, now 46). Does anybody knows this old movie??

I've seen the exorcist about a million times, I got the original VHS for it. It's one of my favorites, it's crazy, insane, and down right scary....But I have NEVER seen the stair scene. It must've been a deleted scene. And damn i see why, that's creepy as fuck! Thanks for posting!

Martyrs is scary as fuck, if only because it's the most intense experience I've ever had watching a movie. The only things from horror movies that freaked me out when I was a child was a couple of scenes from Salem's Lot (the scariest movie ever, IMO) & the Zelda scenes in Pet Cemetary. I watched The Exorcist when I was 12 & whilst 15 years later I consider it one of my favourite movies of all-time, I have never deemed it scary, but each his own I guess.

@stoffni Shelley Duval was great in The Shining. She behaved like a real woman frightened to the point of hysteria. For some reason, some people find it embarrassing to see realistic terror in a movie so they laugh it off and say that she looks silly / ugly / pathetic. But actually she just shows what fear and despair can look like. If you're not able to take her performance seriously, that's your problem, not a fault in her acting.
