The NASCAR Hall of Fame needs to honor the heros of the regional racing scene. Not just the Sprint Cup drivers but some of the greatest to rip up a local track and Richie Evans was the greatest at that among the many others that made up NASCAR.
I can watch this over and over. I also was on my Western Flyer 20" with the wide tire on front acting like Richie Evans. He was and will always be my hero. I remember seeing the hauler go by the house and chasing it like it was the icecream truck. I am 48 and this still gives me goose bumps
@Houndbone, i am with you. just had my bmw m3 painted evans orange. i plan to double park it in front of the ww2/nascar hof. wow, was that racin'. check out the mod200 at daytona speedweeks in 1979 where he kicked everyone's butt, allison, gant, wallace, bonnett, and the announcer waltrip. richie kicked their butt again in 1980 during speedweeks, at their track, in their cars. in 1980 he qualified at 196 m.p.h. a record. the car is in the international motorsports hof.
great clips !!!!! he was a great person to be around a true gentleman of the sport. he was a lot more of a driver then these so called drivers in the cup ,a lot of those drivers have forgotten where they have come from
Wow,I never saw this clips,Richie is #1 in my Book,9 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champions,4 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series regional Championships, 26 Track Championships, 479+Wins
exactly my sentiments. nascar's first division was the modifieds. nascar's only 9 time champion. 8 in a row. and, they can't even have the class or integrity to put him in the hof. appalling. a big whatever. i cancelled all _ascar ticket renewals, deleted _irius 128, took a sharpie to all _ascar logos, when i heard "them" announce the final inductee. sad. amazing, the greatest baseball player of all time also is not in the hof. what made evans though is the fact that his competitors loved him.
i suppose your referring to the hendrick cash cow team.they buy their championships every year. i think it's apalling that nascar does'nt support or hardly recognize the modified division, it's oldest division. if you notice they used to announce the attendance at cup races. they dont mention it much at all. also there are lots of empty seats at cup races. easily noticable when the cameras pan through the grandstands.
richie is the greatest racer of all-time. thanks so much for the video. wow, i love him. at bristol, when the mods were there, on the fancam interview, i said, "i love richie evans and Jesus Christ. my son is named evan... thanks again. will watch repeatedly and often. John 3:16.
hubbywiff1, you made my day today w/ that reply. thanks. not a day goes by that i don't think of him. my son, evan, pedalling a go-kart so hard that the front wheel lifted off the ground, shouts, "look dad, i'm richie evans!" wow, that was awesome.
great tribute

9 time nascar champion. 8 in a row. a record never to be broken. not even with 550 employees... they will never touch richie's record.
