@XOmniverse it could be a number of reasons, bad experiences when using emotions, lack of emotions, someone else told you to, logic dictates to use logic...
The thing about genes not being able to evolve on the stop is not true. There are newly discovered exogenes (forget the real name) which activate and deactivate certain genes depending on the situation.
As regards the knowledge being formed by the sense data, it's what Locke meant by his concept of tabula rasa. Yes, it's difficult to think about any knowledge without the sense data, but let's not underestimate that we are also genetically programmed to organise the sense data in a specific human way. As regards naming various emotions, yes, it can be useful, but such names are nothing but only flogistons of science. In the last resort, humans are apparently only dynamic particle configurations.
that's really quite inspired.

very good video
emotions are a part of intuition
and it's very clever, people who let their emotions control them are being controlled by the emotional computer, or processing unit.
and those who go by logic rather than instinct are going by their conscious computer.

Manly: What motivates you to "go by logic"?

Very interesting man.
But I also have heard of biological evidence of self-reprogramming genes to handle different situations (nearly) on the fly.
