If you were to stop and wait for traffic or allow yourself to be boxed in all you're doing is making yourself a target for the enemy. If you didn't drive like this there all a suicide bomber would have to do would be to just drive slowly in front of you while you waited for them to drive faster or change lanes.
From my understanding (I'm not sure of this, but it makes sense) the Alliance vehicles in the middle-east all have signs on them in Arabic that say something to the effect of "This is a military vehicle. Impeding the movement of obstructing the path of this vehicle can and will be considered an act of hostility and you may be open fired upon."
