Now that I played the Crysis 2 demo, I can say that for the PC the new CryEngine 3 is a really big achievement which tops it's predecessor and on top of all that it's more optimized than CryEngine 2. But since Unreal Engine 3 has been out for about 5 years now, you still have to give it credit for looking that good as it is.
cryengine is going for realism. unreal engine just gives things more of a futuristic feel. I'm a fan of both but i like unreal a tad more. besides, just wait until the unreal 4 engine comes out...

@finthallon Let's bring an example of a very new game called Singularity, you can't use AA with ati cards and with nvidia cards you have to force it in control panel. Even if you put any AA on, your fps drops dramatically. Idc what you say, this engine is getting old and is overused in games.

UE3 is great and all, but the Cryengine really is superior. In many UE3 game, like UT3, if you get close to textures, they are VERY low and have an almost gooy look. I know most textures are low quality when up close, but UE3 really looks low. The UE3 and UT3 have great lighting and glows.

You seriously have no idea what you're talking about, you can create truly original stuff with that engine. F.ex. Borderlands if you want a commercial game, or Whizzle, the ball or prometheus if you want to see how the engine can handle different things.
You can't compare an older game engine which is now 3 years old (although still get's updated regularly) to a game engine that is still in development. All all intents and purposes I'll have to say that in all honesty if you went in and took a good look at the latest version of Unreal3.0 it's had some updates since Gears of War 2.

the big difference between these two is that CE2 does phisics, shaders, ai, and super complex shadows all in real time... ut3 can do more shader oriented things...it does the other things aswell but just not the extent of cryengine...

The point is that Unreal Engine 3 was already developed and in use for years before Cry Engine 3 was even unnounced, so Unreal Engine 3 was oriented on older hardware during development and it's not really fair to compare them in a competitive manner.

Like I said, games CAN use a mouse and keyboard on the PS3, it is completely possible. But most of them do not. Unreal Tournament III has support for it. And it is the only game I know of that does on the PS3.

Theres a difference between realistic and more realistic... There is no doubt in any game developers mind that the ps3 or xbox 360 cant have very realistic physics. But they are a long way from what the PC can do. But the PS3 has proven its actually quite powerful, its CPU can actually be used to produce some of the graphics in games for better visuals. Which Uncharted 2 is doing. Plus the Cell Processor is insanely fast. Oh and a company made an engine which produces realistic physics real fast

Unreal Engines are Amazing. You play BioShock, That is on UNREAL ENGINE 2.5, let alone Unreal Engine 3.5 which has better water physics and graphics than half of what you see on CryTek Engine 3. For a brand new Engine, Crytek Engine 3 disappoints. I expected better..
Bioshock uses a highly modified Unreal Engine 2.5 and its water is made to be like Unreal Engine 3.
Its not a "Brand new Engine" either. Its a port of Cryengine 2 designed and modified to suit the consoles so they can put games on the consoles. Crysis 2 is supposed to use this engine on the consoles while Crysis 2 for the PC might just use CryEngine 2 still or a better version of it.
Cryengine 2/3 are the best gfx engines at the moment. Unreal 3 is about 3 years old, r u kiddin me? Even cryengine 2 on low settings looks better than UE3. As far as MGS4 goes, consoles will NEVER display bettern graphics then PCs - its a fact.
You should compare Gran Turismo 5 for the graphics and physics, thats the best consoles will probably do besides maybe Uncharted 2. Gran Turismo 5 is in 1080p Native resolution at 60fps. So that is the smoothest and most gorgeous looking game probably. :p
But MGS4 has really good looking water but they don't really show much of it :(
Killzone 2's water effects are shite. Bioshock's water is indeed fantastic. I have it on both PC and PS3. MGs4's Water you've OBVIOUSLY NEVER seen. There's not much of it, but it appears in 3 rivers in Act2, 1 river in Act3, and you can see some in the background in Act4/5, and it looks more realistic than Bioshock or Crysis. Also, in MGS4 you can swim underwater, the water effects are phenomenal. I change my opinion :
MGS4 > Crysis > Uncharted > Bioshock > Far Cry 2 > Killzone 2 > UEIII game
Look up the water effects on the Quantum3 engine on the Wii. It is much more dynamic than the Cryengine water. If it can be done on Wii, it shouldn't even show its face on the more powerful consoles.

looking forward to cryengine! :D unreal looks good to :p and i agree that PC's are better if u got the money, but honestly i tend to favor the console version of most games cus it just feels more... solid in a sense and i guess i just like my PS3 too much.

yeah my comp sucks i cant put crysis on very high so i use regular high:/i had a cheap comp for 500 bucks and got a vid card for cheap so the 4000 buck suggestion sucks ass nuggets.

lol computer requlary arent ment for playing games due to so many overheats and u somethimes have to overclock and so maaaany new updates like windows 7 windows vista u have to instantly get new graphics for 100 fps or a decent gaming and it costs so much in your tax for electricity i would so much recommend the ps3

If you're going to try and go "smart guy" on someone make sure you read their words correctly and know exctly what they meant. And especially make sure you read the WHOLE comment. You are just plain stupid.
Like I said, games CAN use a mouse and keyboard on the PS3, it is completely possible. But most of them do not. Unreal Tournament III has support for it. And it is the only game I know of that does on the PS3.

Consoles nowadays have Realistic effects, weather, physics, and particle effects... Killzone 2, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc.

Theres a difference between realistic and more realistic... There is no doubt in any game developers mind that the ps3 or xbox 360 cant have very realistic physics. But they are a long way from what the PC can do. But the PS3 has proven its actually quite powerful, its CPU can actually be used to produce some of the graphics in games for better visuals. Which Uncharted 2 is doing. Plus the Cell Processor is insanely fast. Oh and a company made an engine which produces realistic physics real fast

Its not a fair comparison, Unreal Engine 3 is much older. It is like comparing unreal Engine 4 (2012 next-gen) to CryEngine 3.

CryEngine 3 is actually worse then CryEngine 2 and It is almost 3 years old. I do believe Unreal Engine 3 came out around the same time if not older then that...
In a way you are right though, if they showed CryEngine 2 Vs. Unreal Engine 3 for the PC it would be more fair since PCs have more power and would push the engines further and show more about what each can do. But overall I still find both CryEngines better.

That is just plain not true. yes, Cryengine 3 looks worse on consoles than 2 did on the PC. But the PC version of CryEngine 3 looks substantially better than 2 did. Surprisingly so.

Unreal Engines are Amazing. You play BioShock, That is on UNREAL ENGINE 2.5, let alone Unreal Engine 3.5 which has better water physics and graphics than half of what you see on CryTek Engine 3. For a brand new Engine, Crytek Engine 3 disappoints. I expected better..

Bioshock uses a highly modified Unreal Engine 2.5 and its water is made to be like Unreal Engine 3.
Its not a "Brand new Engine" either. Its a port of Cryengine 2 designed and modified to suit the consoles so they can put games on the consoles. Crysis 2 is supposed to use this engine on the consoles while Crysis 2 for the PC might just use CryEngine 2 still or a better version of it.

Cryengine 2/3 are the best gfx engines at the moment. Unreal 3 is about 3 years old, r u kiddin me? Even cryengine 2 on low settings looks better than UE3. As far as MGS4 goes, consoles will NEVER display bettern graphics then PCs - its a fact.

You should compare Gran Turismo 5 for the graphics and physics, thats the best consoles will probably do besides maybe Uncharted 2. Gran Turismo 5 is in 1080p Native resolution at 60fps. So that is the smoothest and most gorgeous looking game probably. :p
But MGS4 has really good looking water but they don't really show much of it :(

Killzone 2's water effects are shite. Bioshock's water is indeed fantastic. I have it on both PC and PS3. MGs4's Water you've OBVIOUSLY NEVER seen. There's not much of it, but it appears in 3 rivers in Act2, 1 river in Act3, and you can see some in the background in Act4/5, and it looks more realistic than Bioshock or Crysis. Also, in MGS4 you can swim underwater, the water effects are phenomenal. I change my opinion :
MGS4 > Crysis > Uncharted > Bioshock > Far Cry 2 > Killzone 2 > UEIII game

Look up the water effects on the Quantum3 engine on the Wii. It is much more dynamic than the Cryengine water. If it can be done on Wii, it shouldn't even show its face on the more powerful consoles.
