My Grandmother died in 1992 But one of my greatest memories of her is seeing her sit in her chair tapping her feet to this beat and patting her hands on her lap Thanks Freddie...I always love your music
This is what REAL MUSIC is like...True talent, vocal ability...no need for synthisizers. Freddie Jackson still has it...I saw him 2 years ago at the Fraze Pavillion in Dayton OH with the "Men of Soul" tour. It featured Howard Hewitt, Peabo Bryson, Freddie Jackson and Jeffrey Osborne. Talk about a show!!! Everyone in the audience was screaming, singing and dancing along to the music. Too bad the generation today really don't have singers/musicians of this caliber. Thank goodness for Youtube!!!
This was the MOVE back in the day. It was released in 1987 and was released of the album "Just Like The First Time" which was released in 1986 and produced 4 hit singles. Jam Tonight was one of them. I was in college in 1986 and I was graduating in August 1987. So trust that this song here carries a lot for me. I can't think of anybody who did NOT like this song back then.
Man this song it makes me dance every time I here it. Thanks to my mom this type of music is all I like to listen to. Lol I feel old even though I'm not.
This was a nice kut in the 80's. Just a thought...It's a damn shame that the music industry has a age limit on who's hot and who's not these days. Back n the dayz, you could be 80 and still have a hit on the radio. These dayz, (even though I dont watch it) American Idol has a age limit on the contestants. Lame artists today are just about making a hit and money with no soul, talent, or substance behind it.
Aye dis was on one my families home videos from the 80's my uncle and sum woman was dancing to this, I been lookin for this shit for years I used to think Luther Vandross sung it, boy dis dat shit!
Wow, I saw him at the Celebrity, last night and it was great. He looks so different; no more chubby faced man. He is slim and trim and doing the damn thing. Good show
@The9fifteen feddie is not gay its luther vandross who known to be gay and never got married and acted queer this brother was a go getting player and was married hes also cousin to home run hitting new york yankees REGGIE JACKSON his older cousin
I fell in love w/ Freddie when I was 7. My mom got all dressed up in a white minidress w/ fringes & white pumps to go see him in concert. She looked like a movie star, hair bouncin on her shoulders, gold skin shining. I wanted to go with her & see Freddie too, but of course not. I think of that whenever I hear his songs. She felt so awesome that nite & had a ball! She owed it all to him. I thank him for makin my mom feel like the precious Diamond she is.
If you were seven around the time this was hot (circa '88) then you're the same age as me. So glad I was born an eighties baby. I have a similar story about my mom and aunts, only they were heading out to see Luther. You couldn't tell me they weren't the most beautiful women in the world as they struted out the door. There was nothing like being a kid in the eighties. I miss those times and the soundtrack of music that went with it.
@Codycole80 Yes, I was born @ the end of '79. Im 32. I love ur comment! Its amazing how good music can make u feel ontop of it all. I can see ur mom & aunts just as clear as my mom. I know they were 2 much that nite! I miss everything about the 80s, music, tv, fashion..I can go on. Those days had a certain magic 2 it that today is missing. These new kids have no idea.I totally agree with all uve just said, as if u were reading my mind. Im glad someone can relate & understand! Kisses!
@librastar88 Thank u, yes a lot of moms did and do. Mine has made me love not just his music but countless others of older generations. I appreciate ur comment.
I was four when this song first came out, but when I was little there was always music no matter where I was. And, I always had a good taste in music. I remember hearing this song and I was jammin' (no pun intended) and fell in love with it. I still love this song now. A lot of these singers need to take page from the old schoolers and show 'em how to create songs that'll last beyond six months.
Man, this jam makes me wanna just put on a suit and go dancing under blue lights...real dancing, not that freak-nasty crap, just takin' a lady by the hand, lead her to the dance floor, and just dance the night away..Enjoy...
ISN'T THERE AN OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO TO "JAM TONIGHT"? I KNOW I remember seeing BET play one one afternoon in 1999 on an edition of their show, "Jam Zone".
I remember in the video, Freddie was on a stage (at what looked to be a little bar or something).
I was nine years old in the summer of 1987. I was coming home from daycamp in a friend's car and this song was playing on the radio. WTMP, I think. This was a special summer for me. It was the one where I was just carefree without a trouble in the world. I loved this song.
@ zenlife28 good memories for me too. I was a freshman in highschool this was Freddie's 2nd Album after the huge hit Rock me Tonight. Luther had an album out too with There's Nothing Better than Love with Gregory Hines - I'm going to tube it now.
Today, I am reminiscing on a night 6yrs ago this month, it was the first time I had been out dancing in over 9yrs, it was the night I boldly approached the DJ platform and demanded that Mr. DJ play somethin that didn't burst my ear drums, maybe sm Freddie. Mr. DJ took my suggestion and I hit the floor by myself but not for long. And we're still dancing 2gether 2dy. Happy Anniversary Mr. DJ POP-N-KNO.

Thanks so much for this posting. This was the jam back in the day at the club. We danced the night away at the Bottom Line in New Orleans. Everyone was so cool and you couldn't wait to party on the weekend. Freddie is one of the best singers ever. He made you just want to get up and jam no matter where you were. I'm jammin right now at my laptop!!! Those were the days for sure!!! Thanks for the memories...
Thx to my sis Tasha, this is one of my favorite songs from when I was in elementary school.... You remember this T ! You remember who else loved this song? (MS) lol..... That brings back memories, huh?

this song was inspired by him wearing the ladies thongs they had threw up on stage

OMG...I remember when this song first came out my older sister was dating a guy with a corvette and she would pick me up, we would let down the top and we would turn this up and sing this on the expressway (lake shore drive..shout out to chicago). I couldn't wait to get a car to do jam this in...lol (got the cd, now just need the vette).
