As Carreras said if Aragall recorded more often the "Three Tenors" would be in the second division. Pavarotti wished he had his voice and Domingo agrees he was the greatest tenor. Buy all you can of this legendary tenor
very well sung...a sense of vocal line is well established.Cura should listen to this and then sing it. A very underrated or as some say underexposed tenor of the 70's...but how to fight against the Domingo/Pavarotti marketing machine ? A shame really, because J.A .had the tools, and a naturally beautiful instrument.
Luciano Pavarotti once said that of the up and coming tenors in the early 60's (Domingo, himself, and Aragall), he thought that Aragall had the best voice. I don't necessarily agree but it quite beautiful nonetheless. I liked LP's voice a lot myself but not necessarily his tastes in other tenors. He once said his big idol was DiStefano over Gigli which earned him a slap from his father Fernando.
It was Aragall who turned down offers from recording companies and Opera Houses, unlike the other tenors who would sing anything for money and exposure. Aragall decided to sing within his range and by not constantly abusing his voice. How many singers have retired with a voice still intact?
I agree, truly great singer. Didn't Pavarotti once quip "With a voice like his, what could I not do?!" I wish someone could explain to me why he used to be Giacomo and changed to Jaime - I mean I can see the connection in the names, but they changed on opera programmes and websites and all...
Penoso...

In my opinion Aragall was the most gifted, an angelic voice in an athletic body. W the Catalan singers !

The most beautiful tenor voice you will ever hear from a truly great man.

None of his recordings give justice to the quality of his voice in the theatre.
It was a full, silvery, easy sounds, untill...his fears haunted him.

His Catalan name is Jaume, in Castillean it is Jaime but when he became so famous it was thought he should have the Italian version

Not a fan of Aragall, but I do enjoy some of his phrasing in this aria.

I am a great fan of Aragall. He is as good as Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras. However his exposure is not so great.
