I saw Mark play The Gates at monsters of accordion 2009 where he was a special guest. Time and time again as I am describing the performance to my friends and acquaintances I always fall on "magical" as my key description. The recording is great, but can not capture how you feel the deep tones in your chest, or how around timestamp 4:30 you start feeling energy build up into your body until it hits the 'aahs" and the whole crowd begins swaying as energy pours out through the whole crowd.
I feel terrible. Every time I see Mark, I want to open my mouth and let 'er rip, but I'm far too self-conscious.

This song, about the failure of the federal levees in New Orleans, makes me cry every single time I hear it.
