What avery, VERY pretty woman!!!! And with age and weight she grew more pretty!!! Venus was the first 45 rpm record I bought as a teen-ager. It is so sad to see her gone...
Nice use of the Casio keyboards in this version! This is the exact original Casio piano and string sound liked they used in the old days. Very good job!
A fantastic arrangement of Venus! Full of substitute chords. It is amazing to hear how good at jazz Mariska was. Elkie Brooks is another one. She recorded with Humphrey Lyttleton int the 1960s, before fronting the great blues-rock band, Vinegar Joe.
I remember being 8 years old and seeing Mariska singing Venus, I thought she was an angel! I fell in love with her at the time!! She was truly great and beautiful..... she will live long in the memory... x
No need for sadness. It's the body that is expiring, not the soul-off into a different state. I barely recognized this song--ABSOLUTELY TOUCHING, SOULFUL AND BEAUTIFUL, IMMORTAL in spirit like her.
well wonderful, I just learnt today through this video that Mariska died. She had such a unique voice & the most gorgeous eyes..even when I see the recent photos of her. I recall listening to the song venus as a child back in the low 70's. I actually thought it was a guy with a strange tone singing venus....(when I was a child) the pre MTV & you tube days of easy info. ya know....She was so special...
@prokip901 I was 17 when I bought this record in 1970, I didn't know she passed away until 6 7 months ago, it feels like part of my past went with her.
i grew up in Brazil listening to her VENUS and can say that was saddened to learn today that she had past away. beautiful song, voice and above all, beatuful person! her gorgeous eyes emanate some kind of goodness too. Thank you, Mariska!

Wasn't aware she had passed until I saw these posts. Too bad she didn't do more "jazzy" work; she had a torchy voice reminiscent of Julie London.
