I don't understand much about american politics but why would ron paul be in the house of reps. instead of being a senator? given that Peter always says the amount of influence and power one senator can have.
@worldgoingtozero There's less senators than congressman... 100 senators, and 300+ congressmen. (2 senators for each state, whereas the congress scales over time based on population) Hence senators are more powerful but also more contested seats. You could also ask why isn't Ron Paul the president? Well, he tried, but didn't quite make it.
Listening to the people is important but not sufficient; the U.S. is also a republic and principles matter. If the people vote in politicians who 'listen to the people' yet continue down the path to public insolvency who shall you blame then?

i didnt hear him say anything about keynes. he explained how he predicted the bubble, why it happened and how to fix it, all in simple terms anyone can understand: consume less, produce more, the government just makes it worse, you cant spend your way out of debt, etc. just common sense stuff. people dont know economics but they know what sounds right when they hear it. the problem is before they never heard it.
