  • I don't know what you mean by calling it raw, maybe it was compared to what is on the field today. Lets just say the corps of the '70s had some balls compared to today. And The Muchachos had the biggest balls of all.

  • Love the raw, wall of sound of old school drum corps! Muchachos had it going, very nice!

  • Got that video from a ex -Skyliner. I have the whole show on dvd. Very very rare.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I marched in the corps from 1971 through 1974 and this is the first video that I have seen of the 1974 corps. Wonderful memories!

  • I loved them that year. I used to love singing there show along with them when I heard them live and also recorded back off my cassette tape player. Remember those. I recorded many shows in the 70's while marching myself as snare drummer.

    Hey remember Jeff Kivet?

  • Hawthorne was the first Open Class DCI corps I had ever seen, this was also my first season in drumcorps ( New York Lancers). I had the opportunity to watch the hornline practice before prelims that year, ( a class A corps)they absolutely blew me away...made me realize what a great hornline is supposed to sound like. funny thing is, later that day I also saw Madison for the first time....they were monsters that year

  • Thanks for the comments everyone. When it comes to the powerhouse corps of the 1970's, Muchachos is as good as it gets in my opinion. Of course i am a little bias as was in them. But before I was, I was a fan. And it was seeing them in 1975 at Roosevelt Stadium that made me want to be a part of them. I was going to go into Garfield which I loved, but when i saw The Muchachos, well it was over.

  • It was really hot that day. The white silk shirts under the bolero weren't exactly cool. I loved hearing Jeff's amalgamation of refried spanish licks that he continually recycled in those years again.

Note to another commenter. We did sound not so loud sometimes - but that was when we were not facing straight ahead. :)

  • @therockhopper thats so funny! I marched with St Francis Sancians that year and we had to go on at like 6 a.m. for Prelims...that was back in the day when there were so many drum corps they had to start Prelims at the crack of dawn!

  • Wow, thanks! I love Internet time. :)

That jogged my friend's memory. He says it was just "Pictures of Spain" back then.

I use a part of this for my ringtone. Now when I get a call I don't want to answer it, I just want to listen. :)

  • I marched '82-'84 Freelancers. Our veterans were positively reverential when talking about the Muchachos. Hard sell, balls to the wall, no compromise drum corps. Drum corps where the horn line plays loud, and louder. Nothing else.

What is the name of this OTL?

  • @RocketRay Pictures De Haspana, an original piece written by Larry Kershner their horn instructor at the time, back then very few musical peices were written strictly for the horn line, I remember them well, one of the loudest horn lines of their time, in '75 the year they got kicked out their horn line was as loud as Madisons.

  • @RocketRay Pictures De Espaina. I loved playing that piece. I marched "73 to the end in '78

  • Real Drum Corp!

  • Muchachos, Aneheim Kingsmen, Blue Devils, Bleu Raeders, Oakland Crusaders, 27th Lancers, Blue Stars....Thanks for the memories!!!

  • Babcock, thanks so much! Jeff's solo is my favorite in all of Drum Corps!!! Today's Corps don't compare. No hula hoops, no singing, no costume changes...just powerful horns, drums, flags, rifles, stand stills and class!!

  • I sat there that day in the blazing heat. I always got chills with this OTL. All these years later. I got them again. They were amazing.

  • It has been copied down many generations. So what. The peformance still stands and is mezmerizing.

  • why does this look like it was filmed in 1888?

  • This was one of the great years in DCI. I remember being there for both prelims and finals; the finals show brought down the house!

  • long live the muchachos

  • NOTICE in 1974, there were NO Yard lines or Hash Marks...This was the last year of the Starting Line and 50 yard line...

  • Well I guess the 1975 Muchachos Hershey show will eventually make it up on youtube, now that it has been released on dvd by Drum Corps world. Check it out on their website.

  • This is great. We played lots of Muchachos' music in HS band in the late 70's and early 80's, and I would love to have marched with them if they were still around at that time. I still wish they would come back -- I'd send my daughter there to march. Thanks for doing this.

  • You are most welcome!! Love the Muchachos!!!!

  • Many Many thanks for sharing this!
