@chopperspooner is it that important? I once had a fender jazz bass, a '74 even! I sold it for around $3000 and bought a Squier Jazz Bass. It looks better than a fender and it stands up to the original...

doesnt always have to be the coolest brand. A squier Jazz Bass for example will beat any other jazz bass (except fender) simply because of the fender own standarts...like the neck radius.

it cost $300 and for the rest of the money I bought some kick as equipement. cheers...love your covers.

No it's not. if you look at the video for behind the scenes at the albert hall, and you will see that chris uses the d string with an octaver to get that lower dirty sound. what i will say though is that you could play it in drop - D to get get an even lower sound

One of many of Chris' pedals is a Boss Ocatve one, that's a good start, but no your Big Muff isn't an octave pedal.

I play it drop D, but it depends if you want to follow on from the riff into a song, for example Muse have a couple of times played plug in baby right after this riff when they perform so dropping D wouldn't be useful for Chris as he plays at the 'high end' of the bass on the E string. His choice is also an octave pedal playing on the D string. It just makes it more convenient with the on,off option.

I've tried, unless you play it fast it just sounds like another riff, and no-one has seemed to notice on the original he uses a flanger effect, similar to the effect used in city of delusion, i've just heard the octave pedal so far.

Did you have any problems with your Aerodyne? I got mine last year and the J-pup couldn't get anything out of the A and D strings. I fixed it up recently, restrung it with standard gauge strings, and they don't fit the nut... It sounds like a chorus pedal on open E and A stings, and I've resorted to holding them in position with a capo.

Nope, my areodyne came fine. I got the string nuts expanded to fit the heavier 110 gauge, as it only took 100, and the nut on the jack kept coming loose, but a bit of locktite sorted that out. My pups are fine, and never had a problem with them when i had them. I changed them out after about 7 months.

nice bass but you played it wrong, its drop d and goes something like 10-12-10-12-0-0-13-15-13-0-15-­0-15-18-15-0 and then the second bit is, 10-12-10-12-0-0-5-6-5-0-3-0-3-­5-3-0. I think that sounds right but whatever, well played other wise;)
