some people are affraid that illegal download will ruin music industry... well i say even if you have loads of money, download everything you can and distribute it to everyone..
maybe one day we'll actually have real musicians coming to the scene... i bet the whole world would change then...
@gergsar What do you find difficult in that passage, and difficult compared to what? There's nothing particularly challenging in it, especially not compared to his contemporaries like Allan Holdsworth, John McG, Robert Fripp, et al. Frank wasn't a technical player--he said so himself--so where he gets this fan rputation for being a challenging guitarist is beyond me. Not that there's anything wrong with being a low-chops player, of course. You don't need top technique to be a great musician.
The Central scrutinizer, yes indeed. Watermelon in Easter Hay in counterpart with Outside Now is some of the most emotionally charged stuff in his entire catalogue. And he said he didn't believe music had any emotional qualities! A genius, yes...but I think he may have been wrong about that.
Ike Willis does have a great voice but he's only doing a bit of backup on this track. Ray White is singing lead. Ike is the taller guy in the light-blue-ish looking outfit, there's just a couple quick shots of him.
I beleive this is what the forefathers of music would be creating in today's time, Frank is our Bach, Bethoven, all the true creators of what we call progressive music, Jazz from hell if you will.............miss you brother........thanks for the many lifetimes of music you created, I'll never be able to get through it all but I will try my best.
Frank had such serious balls when he played the guitar. Most other guitarists were just dabbling- Zappa made them sound like they were in nursery school and he had a PhD.
this is one of my favorites. when I first bought broadway the hard way, I listened to this one over and over and over again and often fell asleep with it. it's GENIOUS.
Poundforabrown I agree, ZPZ is pretty fuckin' white, I've seen em' live but only because I'm from Ottawa and good concerts don't really come our way so it was either Dweezil or nothin' for me. If I had the money I'd drive to the states to see Project/Object or something.
Ike was my guitar teacher for awhile and I used to love hearing all his stories from being on the road with Frank...this riff was also one of the first things he ever taught me.
Was anyone at UF Gainesville in'79? He put on a hour & Half show for 8 bucks! and joined the rest of the college kids at the Great Southern Music Hall after his show. Back then "Keep it Greasy" was brand new and very "dirty",Archer Road band member poured a beer on Frank while he was graciously sigining autographs it killed the mood for everybody at the pub there,Frank told bodyguard to put him down & little bastard ran past leaving Frank soaked. dudes got to punch perp but 2 L-8.Frank left mad
I saw FZ live twice in '88 and I still haven't recovered! This is what I call a monster Zappa solo, and as far as I'm concerned Zappa was the reason the guitar was invented!
These executives have plooked the fuck out of me - right on Frank - one more solo for the road of interminable torture and beauty - I'll be getting out of here pretty soon....
this is the kind of a song that if you hate.........well as walter said in the big lebowski "your out of your element"

I think very Few guitarists have this wide and amazing understanding for the guitar
I mean that understanding for the guitar that Frank had
feeling for Tone and sound he was a very tasteful player i love his versions of Black Napkins and every Inca Roads Solo Frank played
The only guitarist i know that have this deep understanding for the Instrument
are Paul Gilbert & Richie Kotzen & Andy Timmons

this is a very good example of Frank's improvisation skills...the entire solo is really
good, but 4:10 thru 4:26 is ultra-good...not only because of its difficulty, but because of how it SOUNDS.

@richcapo well I think zappa is maybe not as technical as the ones you mention but I'm sure he is the most original!!!

I only know the Music of Frank Zappa for two years
I startet with the Roxy & Elswhere and Zappa Live in New York (my luck some of his best work)
I got addicted to Zappa after these Albums
and now i own his records from 1969 to 1984
A lot of time and mony effort to that hobby
but its definetly worth it.
