  • What is the instrument with the Hawaiian feel in between 1:22 - 1:33 ?

  • Yes! I found it! (Only took me three months, hahaha. >_<)

  • I actually got up on stage in Ottawa at Barrymore's Club in about 1986 and sang with the guys, long story about how I met them in Red Deer Alberta, but they remembered. It was great. RIP Doug

  • May he rest in peace

  • 1 of my favorite 's i love this thanks for posting this

  • spec song rip doug

  • When I first heard this song, I thought he used the 45 on the girl. Nice to see the Slugs having fun throughout the video. RIP Doug. Great voice. Great talent.

  • Im a teenager, and im not into all that new shit, there are some good songs that came out recently, but not for the people my age category, im a Metallica, Iron Maiden, Beatles, Mason Williams, damn i even listen to Louis Armstrong at my age, i was born in the wrong decade.. i hate mine ahah

  • @MegaGanjalord Same here, I'm 15 but I grew up with 80's and later songs.

    Feels good man

  • @MegaGanjalord YOUR DECADE DOES SUCK, YOU HAVE JUSTIN BIEBER.

  • Rest In Peace Doug you will be Missed

  • Heard this for the first time in Banff last week. Don't know how I missed in in '80. Great song for a summer road trip in beautiful Alberta.

  • I need to learn this for karaoke

  • RYShShe

  • this was the first music video i ever saw in 80..RIP doug.. u will be missed

  • This song is great, does anyone know of any bands/songs that sound similar to this, or have a similar feeling?

  • groovy.

  • R.I.P. Doug

  • lololololololol! :D

  • I miss the Norm McDonald's show.

  • @poncho58 That's where I remembered this song. I forgot what it sounded like, but I knew it was good.

  • i think cowboymcleod might have a little thing for her....lol

  • Who's that pretty hot woman at 0:30, I kind of think her name is Amelia as she really looks smokin' hot and pretty, sweet, and cute and lovely as it kind of really looks like that Doug really arouses the woman's interest as I think he really likes her, doesn't he? She looks like a great tie-down roper and also a Brahman bull rider, as well, too, as she looks like she's queen of the western rodeos, she really does?

  • It also shows at 3:21-3:25, it's really true, you know that? The past is never gone, it'll come back again, you know that?

In my eyes, there'll be another January 1st, 1996-December 31st, 2100-100th century-present rodeo seasons along with "Rodeo America's Number One Sport" by Thomas A. Bryant and artwork drawings by E. Vernal Wagner, the one that was published in 1986, as to let you know that you can really go back in time for real life, and time machines will be real as that's true?

  • Awesome song lol

  • i play this song at least 10times a day.. too bad its 2011

  • @whodat16ip What did you mean when you said "i play this song at least 10times a day.. too bad its 2011", what did that mean?

  • @weirdscience85 dude, there is a lot of good music coming out of here right now! :) though i have to say that think we kind of peaked in the 90's

  • Comment removed

  • @weirdscience85 I will more then grant you that 2000-2011 have not been exemplary with some exceptions ( Tokyo Police Club, Mariana's Trench, 3 Days Grace, Finger Eleven, Arcade Fire.) but the 90's?!? Matt Good Band, Our Lady Peace, Sloan, Crash Test Dummies, Bare Naked Ladies, Tragically Hip, Alanis Morissette, we're talking world calls bands here. We have always had amazing music and will always have amazing music, but the 90's were truly Canadian :)

  • @Defiant2379 Haha.. good lists

  • @weirdscience85 In my eyes, there'll be another January 1st, 1996-December 31st, 2100-100th century-present rodeo seasons along with "Rodeo America's Number One Sport" by Thomas A. I'm not crazy, it's really true, you know that? The past is never gone, it'll come back again, you know that?

  • HOW DID HE DIEEEEE????

  • @ty1977 p.s.... he passed away in October of 2004.

  • @scorp8pus thanks brother

  • @smcoscis

Be patient some one will tell you.... ME.

Unfortunately as I said in my other comment Doug loved to have his drinks and more drinks...

This ultimately took a toll on his liver.

Just before he was to go out on tour I saw him on a local TV program doing a song with his new touring band.

I have to say poor Doug looked awful.... all puffed up... really sad.

The tour made it as far as Alberta where he was hospitalized and passed away.

We lost one of the best front men of all time that day.

  • how did he die?

  • i like how he spits at 1:00

  • classic 80s

  • I saw them in the Orpheum in Vancouver in around 83 or so, 4th row from the front. I had such a crush on Doug. This was the only concert I saw since they always played the Commodore but I couldn't go since I was underage.

  • haha i know the guitarists son

  • THANK YOU YOUTUBE for deciding that someone watching the video of a 1980's Canadian band would want to see what MrChiCity3 keeps in his refrigerator.

  • @likesspice73 Thought I might have known you as an ancient friend 'til I went to your site and saw "Steeler's Wheel "Stuck In The Middle". I am now at a loss. However If you appreciate Doug we can talk.

  • Saw the group twice live in a nighclub .Did a great show.

  • Okay, fellow Canadian Gen-Xers, it's time for the ultimate blast from our childhood past, the ultimate brain jolt. Seeing/hearing this again for the first time in eons got me thinking about another rendition of this number: Does anyone remember being 10 to 14 and seeing a bunch of young girls who called themselves The Little Ladies performing 'Too Bad' on Chris Makepeace's old CBC after-school show, Going Great...? It had to be one of the earliest episodes (circa 1981), if not the very first.

  • Chris Makepeace had a show on CBC? Never heard of it. Just watched My Bodyguard last week, which I rented from netflix.

  • Yes, Chris Makepeace hosted a show on the CBC (1981-circa 1985) called Going Great, which did pieces on young people who were making a name for themselves or somehow contributing to society in ways beyond their years. The Little Ladies were a teenaged singing group who did a version of 'Too Bad'. I'd love to see/hear that piece again, and I wonder whatever became of them in adult life.

I also remember a piece on another teenaged Canadian band called Destiny, who covered Sly Stone....

  • Love these guys...bought their cassette in Brandon Manitoba...10 Big Ones, wore that out...takes me back

  • "It's over, kaput, except for the tail spin!"

  • Doug and the slugs toured NYC several times .... they were a pleasure to work with and lots of fun ...a gentleman that Douglas Bennett

  • It was great that the NORM SHOW picked this as their theme in 1999. I remember hearing it and wondering why is this being played on television, so I ran downstairs to the tv.

  • My 11 yr old is dancing to this right now, and he's born and bred in Texas (I grew up in Saskatchewan). I use this song on mix CDs I play between classes at school so am exposing a new generation of normally disinterested slouches to the wonders of Doug and the Slugs.

  • The song's great, but Nicole makes a tremendous contribution to this video.

  • Comment removed

  • I remember going on a date with one of my sister`s friends and taking her to see Doug and the Slugs in Toronto....damn, she couldn`t dance worth a damn and wanted to talk all night instead trying to impress me with her intelligence!

She is probably still talking somewhere...........

  • I was sorry to here of his demise. On the East cost we try keep his image alive through working hard, and some drinks.

  • the Norm Show theme song!

  • remember the band and the song. Someday this could be the clinching question in an 80's music trivia contest

  • UPDATE - the original guitarist for D & the S is alive and well and apparently living in Victoria, B.C. Nice guy....jammed with the house band at SWANNS by the Victoria harbour in February, 2009. Too bad the House band was CLUE-LESS when i requested "Too bad " to be played....the guitarist laughed it off.......

  • He`s gone sorry to say. Cancer

  • I'm aware of them. They were always on the radio in my early teens.

  • The 1st time I saw this video on MTV, I thought it was the ultimate case of sexual harrassment.

  • I was in the journalism program at Sheridan College in the mid-80s and interviewed Doug after he did a show at the Galaxy on the North Service Road near Trafalgar Rd. Great guy, full of life, and put on a great show. Great memories.

  • The girl in the video (forgot her name) was a stripper trying to get her high school diploma. She was dating the cameraman Stan. Shot at the Yale Hotel on Granville St Vancouver. Started 6 AM Sunday morning...the smell off piss in the air and finished 6 AM Monday morning.

  • I loved this band... Doug died in 2004 after falling into coma for a week. I think he was diabetic. RIP Doug :((((

  • I got my nickname by singing part of this song with them on stage at a club called Grafitti (now long gone) in Pittsburgh during their 1984 US tour.

Doug & the boys said I did so well, they considered me an honorary Slug.

My buddies have called me Sluggo ever since...
