@kurvos thats what you get for desperately seeking approval from others on the goddamn internet by begging for thumbs up...does it give validity to your otherwise dull, meaningless existence when you have a highly rated comment on youtube? poor lad, maybe youve learned a lesson from your mistake...
The Princess Bride has slapstick comedy, satire, romance, action, drama - it could have easily been a mess. Or it could have been only one of those genres and been forgettable or cheesy. Instead, it's a timeless classic. How they managed to pull it all off is inconceivable!
There were a lot of great things about this movie. the acting was very good, the dialogue was clever. It was a charming film. My only qualm is with the princess. To me she was a very dull character. She was a damsel in distress at every moment and it got annoying. It was like she couldn't accomplish a single thing on her own.
@TLSoulDude, yeah, his films kind of went down around that time. He lost his touch somehow. Still, the track record Rob Reiner had built up until then was amazing. Literally every movie he made was either very good or great. Princess Bride, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally, etc.
@WastedPo He sustained an amazing track record for longer than most people:
THIS IS SPINAL TAP/THE SURE THING/STAND BY ME/THE PRINCESS BRIDE/WHEN HARRY MET SALLY/MISERY/THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT....eventually, he fell off, but Rob Reiner had a great run. And his company produced SEINFELD.
I never liked Cary Elwes. That's the only beef I had with this movie I'll be honest. The guy just looks so smarmy and pleased with himself all the time too well. I'm sure he's a nice guy in real life but I just hate him on screen.
I thought the first Saw was a good dumb popcorn flick. It was all those sequels that followed that sucked ass. Honestly I'm a bit surprised that they didnt mention Mr. Elwes' character, as I thought it was the best acted part in the movie. I'm really biased on this one, though..
The Princess Bride is awsome to the max! The song by Willy Deville was nominated for an Oscar but should been nominated for a Golden Globe. This is one best films of 1987 next to Robocop The Last Emperor Full Metal Jacket and Wall Street. And I found out that Cary Elwes and Robin Wright were both A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey. Rob Reiner greatest film next to Stand by Me and A Few Good Men.
There have been so many great movies over the past 25 years, but if someone asked me "in the past 25 years what movie is a true classic", the only movie that comes to mind is The Princess Bride. A viewer will never tire of this movie. A viewer will always have the same emotional reaction to this movie. Movies like The Princess Bride are not made anymore...and that is a real shame.
it was an ok movie but if you say the past 25 years, my favourite would be The Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, Good Fellas, The matrix and No Country For Old Men
@juliusyeung0330 While I completely agree that there have been better, greater movies then The Princess Bride over the past 25 years, I believe that Bride holds a special place in the hearts of those who grew up with it. It is a movie that will be passed on from generation to generation. That is what I mean by a true classic. I agree that Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas and No Country for Old Men are far better movies. I can not agree with your choice of The Matrix.
@johnd94 I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Considering you capitalize racist slurs in an unfunny attempt to be amusing, I'll take you at face value. A moron.
Never saw SAW (bad repetition, sorry). But I was speaking more about his work in films like The informer, A Christmas Carol, Shadow of the Vampire, Cat's Meow, The Cat's REturn, He's also got a part in the upcoming Yellow Submarine, and Adventures of Tintin. He has also aged remarkably well. The guy gets work, and he seems to be respected by well known directors (Zemeckis, Spielberg). When directed well, he steals a movie. But for many, PB is his crowning achievement.
Ait. I'll have to give those movies a shot. But I hate that he did PB, and then did Robin hood men in tights, which in a way is a parody of his own wesley character (and not even a good movie either). i admit he is also usually overshadowed by other leading actors (jim carrey, ashley judd, bill paxton etc).
@CrownedPeaches Yeah right. I'm simply sharing my opinion. The fact that it had tasteless humor MADE IT FEEl longer then it really was. To me, that is. It just took forever and ever and I just wanted it to end. If anything your getting the rise out of me for replying in the first place. But ti's not working unfortunetely.
This is a great film... its a romance film that both guys and girls can like, And this film along When Harry Met Sally and great examples on how to do romantic-comedies
