Very helpfull tips on the tinder bundle Ashley! I have a terrible habit in the beggining that i blow way way way too hard breaking up the charcloth and the ember xD Thanks a ton :)
It was really pleasant to see someone who is indefinitely a more experienced outdoorsman than I have trouble with starting a fire. I say this not out of spite but out of relief. I'll try a new method of fire starting and when I fail, I immediately start to ponder on what I did or could have done wrong. Some times things don't work the first time!
I recently found Natural Bushcraft and am quite grateful for the instruction I've learned.
@caseybcrocker I absolutely know what you mean, I remember when I was learning various fire lighting techniques you'd look to other resources be it books or videos for help on technique and when it didn't work you could feel disappointed and doubt your every move. Everyone fails sometimes (it's only natural) the thing is with something like Video a lot of the time you only see the edited version where it worked first time to keep the audience interested.
@caseybcrocker I'm glad you like our videos, you might want to checkout out website, its packed with even more articles and videos, sharing knowledge and skills freely. We also have a thriving community there, it's perfect for asking questions and getting help. The site is open, honest & free, there's no elitism and we have members at every skill level - so there's never a question you can't ask. Hope to see you there, all the best,
@NaturalBushcraft I had some problem with that before i used aluminium foile and acctualy cotton becuse cotton burns so fast normaly that its hard to get a fire started before it burns down but be aware of that the smoke cooming out is poisonus bi gas its called in swedish but i dont know the english word if you do it inside in a fireplace it might be dangerus. i know that you probably know this but you didnt say it in the vid great vid btw =)
It might be worth noting that recently I had trouble with making charcloth from jean-denim, I couldn't understand it at first but Justin told me that in some Jeans they have started to use fire-retardent in them and it dosen't make good Charcloth. You can always try denim, or alternatively I've started using cheap kitchen towels. If you want any further info there is an article about making Charcloth on our website, All the best
@zealiscool It is an old, tried & tested method, which made life a lot easier when you had to make a fire from a spark, but us Bushcrafters still use it regularly today. :)
i know you can do it that way but i got tought that if you get a piece of cloth and burn it normal till it burns out then it can work that way and it worked loads for me and i havent tried that for ages tried it like yesterday and it doesnt work no more am just wondering why! lol ? but anyways mate Great vid loved it
Well basicly any organic material that is non synthethic. In the past there were some regions that had no access to cotton, so they used materials sometimes as things as fungi, if its organic most probably it will char. the prosses for charring is called pyrolysis.
I realy like that you didnt edit out the first attempt, I know from experience that it doesn't always work on the first try. And people who try to get into the hobby of bushcraft sometimes get discouraged with the slightest failure. To keep trying is the best advise. I think it is an honorable thing you have done by showing the first fail, and letting others know what the problems can be so they will keep trying.
Da da da stich da so and and so stich why does everyone do that

As said in the video numerous times; Denim. You should try listening before asking. If you don't know what Denim is it's cotton.
