  • yes, i agree with you! take a look back of what has been damage. It is possible to find the solution. nature is good form of anecdote to the worlds problem.

  • Hahahaa,

  • ambot wla ko kasabot!

  • I guess I'm missing the point. We already have Fuel cells that take one element and turn it into heat and electricity. Why do we need hydrocarbons? If we were to utilize the break down of water to it's basic elements hydrogen and oxygen then we have the means to create electricity. This would heat/cool and provide a way to transport people and things.

  • @1timby

Because unfortunately fuel cells use a lot of platinum, which is frightfully expensive and one reason we’ll pay $50,000 or so for the hydrogen cars automakers say we’ll see in 2015. However, with advances in nano tech material science this is quickly changing.

  • @kristijanadrian

You demean the Nobel prize in a pretty ham-handed way... With almost no specificity and punctuated by verbose delusions about its functions and consequences . How is the prize for Graphene, for example, political or manipulative? You draw similarities between zombie consumers and intelligentsia very strangely; what sort of fame-diffusion could ever be beneficial? What grotesque vanity you have invented for people you don't name or describe..

  • He's not only trying to make a vastly more efficient (artificial) biofuel, he's trying to recapture the excess CO2.

However, being at a million times as energy dense than coal (and a thousand times safer than conventional nuclear), he is really wasting time because he is NOT promoting the development and fastracking of...

LFTR the liquid fluoride thorium reactor.

Search Energy Secretary Chu on Thorium Reactors

    China's getting into LFTR too

  • Japan weather wars –

Noah = NOAA - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

    Japeth = Japan

    Shem = sham/trick/fooling of people

Ham = radio wave technology/scalar handlers

    They have genocide themselves

  • What do you mean? Are you attempting to imply that the Nobel Prize is anything but a political tag? Obama was nominated for a Nobel Prize before he was ever elected. It has nothing to do with knowledge or qualifications; it is simply for promoting an ideology that is accepted by the Nobel Lori ate. Anything that promotes a World Socialist agenda will fit the bill.

  • John Holdren is Obama's appointed Science Czar. Like all Czars, they were not approved by the Senate, which is unconstitutional. He advocated in his book "Ecoscience", sterilization of the human population by adding a sterilization drug to the food and water supply and the government taking babies away from single mom's. GOOGLE “zombietime john holdren” and click on link.

  • lol I feel like I'm losing brain cells just by reading the comments on this video.

  • Steven Chu is one of the best Secretaries of Energy in history.

  • how about take water and separate the hydrogen and burn it in whatever and emit the oxygen into the atmosphere or into your oxygen tank onboard your whatever and they already are doing this we dont need to make a plant,... u wouldn't ever be able to make a plant grow like anything that has already been created and blooming over the millions of years that have passed along the planet science is the study of things around us and creation of new things inbetween LEGALIZE CANNABIS WORLDWIDE

  • Ha Ha....bird's engine! Nobel, Berkeley....sounds about right.

  • What a MORON

  • @78923451

Just because you're not qualified for a 10th grade reading level doesnt mean you have to take your frustation out on the internet.

  • Biofuels are so last century.

    LENR FTW

  • Dr Craig Venter is working with ExxonMobile on just such a genetically modified algae that could convert the CO2 from coal-fired plants into natural gas or electricity, thus making clean coal-fired plants profitable.

  • When the world is thinking the rest of us really have to worry about it, don't we? Let the PhD's tell us how we need to live right? This man has never worked a day in his life he is not qualified to tell anyone how to live.

  • @panhandlepatriots

Dude, you're so out of your depth its not even funny.

  • @panhandlepatriots I'm wondering, how do you feel trying to talk down to a physicist? How does that work exactly? Dropping out of highschool isn't a good thing to do ;).

  • Love to see these Berkeley professors lecture us about how to save the world, are you kidding? I like the way he flaps his wings, he should have been in the water in the Gulf when the oil started leaking to see how well he can fly!

  • @panhandlepatriots

So instead of blaming the oil company that cut-corners and repeatedly fucked up you blame a physicist from Berkeley.

  • @panhandlepatriots Why is it his fault?! It's the oil companies. In fact he's pushing for NON-OIL energy sources.

  • @RetardRoo guys a fuckin idiot, Searl Effect Generator> ALL

  • @NeeKroVal

    Spellcheck bro.

  • @Cypherfall wat'd i spell wrong FUCKING?

  • @NeeKroVal

    *grammar nazi

  • @Cypherfall no comprende holmes

  • Plants use CO2 in the process of making ethanol, which we combust and in the process, release CO2.

This is -1CO2 + 1CO2, and it equals zero! :)

  • flap flap! Where is the new free energy technology you are hiding?

  • @acres90

That "dumbass" has a Nobel prize in physics. What have you done to contribute to humanity? If the world was left to idiots like you we would still be dying of simple infections and living in caves.

  • STOP DEFORESTATION! We need CO2 to survive. Who are these people.. Aliens who want to steal our planet from us by killing it and us. Boggles the mind.

  • verry good! look my side EnergyMotors

  • isnt this the dumbass that suggested that all roof tops in the US be painted white?

  • If your passionate about the subject then I advise going into the field. There are some commentators here that are acting like experts and are not. Oh yeah I forgot, this is youtube...please keep emotional needs out of your opinions and you'll find yourself able to get to better conclusions.

  • Hahahahahah, if you think modern passenger jets are more efficent than birds, your nuts! Work better? In what sense, they sure as shit dont fly better I can tell you that. Photosynthetic machines already exist by the way.

  • Um.. modern aircraft fly a lot faster and a lot higher than birds =). And carry heavier loads.

That's what I would describe as "work better" =) lol.

Probably not more energy-efficient I guess but that is also due to problems of scale isn't it?

  • I was mainly rationalizing it in relation to energy consumption, although the load to weight ratio's for some birds arent TOO bad I would say due to bone structure. Depends on the species, I dont really have much factual information on that aspect of birds,

  • we are looking at brids wings to make better plan wings and the only reason we good higher and faster is the how we get lift if we tryed to flap the wins we'd just do face plants most of the time

  • I hate when accomplished scientists get into their older years and publicly indulge in this kind of whimsical speculation. Yes, the goal he describes is absolutely worthwhile, as are many others. But by far the hardest part is figuring out HOW to do it. Its not just a hand-wavey kind of thing, 'oh let the engineers figure it out'. Chu has contributed next to nothing with these comments.

  • 747 works better than pigeon in regards to speed and height. it is just an analogy.

  • this dork says a 747 works better then a pigeon. Can 50 747's, in grid lock formation turn on a dime and stay in formation? and then poop on you with poop out of their butt? i don't think so.

  • and 747's don't do eachother and lay submarines with baby 747's in them.

  • are you an angry pigeon?

  • Laughing loudly out loud.....Idolcruisefix

  • So not only are they making fuel, but also producing more fresh air.

It doesn't sound too difficult. Need more explaining where the challenges are to have to get something to get started in 10 years.

But it's great to have someone know their stuff and can therefore coordinate other scientists & engineers to work on this project.

  • Yes, he must have no idea what he is talking about. He has a doctorate in physics. He has won the Nobel Prize. He ran the Berkeley National Laboratory for years. Clearly he has no proven himself.

I'm sure that you, an anonymous youtuber are much more qualified. What accomplishments have you done in your life? Actions speak louder than words, idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • He most definitely knows what he's talking about. it's called "Hydrogen".

  • It's fine having renewable resources and that's what this is.

  • the guy won the nobel prize in physics

    I'm SURE you're smarter, though.

    pfft

  • you dont know much about the modern system of nobel prize distribution, I think you should look into it, this man's idea is absurd on so many functional levels, its common sense.

  • so you're saying this guy lacks common sense based on this video alone eh

regardless of what you may think

the man is an extraordinary physicist

he ran the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for pete's sake

i'm SURE you're smarter than him though

    hahaha

  • No no im positive he is a brilliant man, however, bioelectronics is a very specialized field and I feel he is very much out of his depth in his suggestions due to the fact they are extremely inpractical for a bio mechanic perspective due to the fact the concepts cant be realistically applied to existing technology and would create a conflicting construct. Thats all. It has nothing to do with intelligence, just practical field experience. I am sure he is very smart.

  • oh i see

didnt mean to be so offensive

    my bad

  • no big deal, I see your point of view and your right. Its just the thing is... Well this sort of thing was tried in scandinavia not too long ago using specialized solar cell units rather than a membrane, and it ran into SOOO many problems the prototypes were scrapped and it cost a fortune.20 years yes WITH advanced technology, but they have barely gotten cellulose development to the microchip stage much less something so WILDLY extreme as this. I mean kudos for the concept, - for the practical

  • Book smarts doesnt make you a good politican and doesnt exclude you from Eliteism.

    kthx

  • cabinet doesnt have to be tricky politician, they r supposed to be professional, thats enough

  • belittleing you constituents to teenagers isnt professional

  • LOL, top post mate :)

  • You Suck.

  • @tltxhzj

Obama won the Nobel peace prize.

I'm SURE I'm less fascist, though.

    pfft

(Idiot, take note: Being a part of the establishment is the very REASON for corruption, not a protection against it)

  • Come on, no one believes in hell anymore!

  • actually this male and his people stole idea from other man...this other man developed this idea about 1970s. they killed him. poison. he used same principles. he threatened entire oil industry. spoke same thing, from water hydrogen use as fuel. he mastered it.

    already used it.

it has been done. the man used simple science. anyman can, with 5 minites thought do it. guy never had a degree.

    simple math. some chemistry ideas.

their holding back science to control us.

  • I believe Craig Venter is working on something like this.

  • Dark Energy is NOT Conserved!!

Google video search: "Tom Valone" and learn more.

This means everyone has the potential energy of Hoover dam in their utility closet or under the hood of their car. All it takes is the right breakthrough technology to tap into dark energy (AKA Zero-Point Energy, or ZPE). Fortunately many inventors have done this and can build our future green economy with their energy products!

Google "Review: Breakthrough Power by Jeane Manning and Joel Garbon"

  • A simplistic response...

  • Try listening to everything he says you fool. He's said a lot more than that.

  • Legalize Cannabis. It produces more fiber and the oil makes the best fuel.

    Stop the ignorance!

Why risk genetic modification when we already have a plant with thousands of years of history?!

  • There's no way you could make mass amounts of oil from hemp that would supply the world, or even a large country. The amount of farmland you would need is astronomical and simply impossible.

As for the amounts of hemp used to make mass amounts of fiber for clothing and such, that's completely realistic and feasible. However, your theory on oil isn't possible.

  • CNN just did a story on the company called "Blackight" and they have a few videos posted on here as well. So why are they even bothering to tout biomass? just search "Blacklight energy"

They even have some of this technology going into a New jersey plant in 2009 and it's dirt cheap, practically free. 1-2 cents per kilowatt hour. Rowan University has verified the claims as well and some big investors are on board already.

Somebody should really brief the 'dream team' cabinet....

  • blacklight sounds cool, but it assumes that there is a lower state of the hydrogen molecule. Which according to quantum physics is impossible. But if they can prove it works then I'm on broad.

  • In order to use water as a "fuel" they basically need to do what a leaf does. And there in lies the problem. plants have been doing this for millions of years and we are expecting to do this within a few decades. Not that I'm saying we shouldn't try, but we should have some perspective.

  • Quantum Physics is far from a solidified theory and in the end it may not be violating any laws at all, just our sometimes short-sighted understanding of them.

Galileo and many others pissed off and annoyed a few in their day as well, but his and others observations eventually panned out.

  • Yes, the scientists claim they have created an energy source based on the hydrino atom. The hydrino atom is a hydrogen atom which has its electron at the less than 1s state. This conversion from the 1s shell to a smaller orbit to produce energy is the basic mechanism behind the black energy project. They recently came out with a paper refuting the quantum mathematics for classical in describing the first 20 electron atoms. This paper was accepted. You can go look it up at the website.

  • Don't be ignorant... Legalize marijuana... Hempseed oil is the most efficient bio-fuel to convert into ethanol...

  • This guy, Napolitano and the head of the VA are the only usufull people hired by Obama. The rest should be returned to the store as defective.

  • Do Steven & Gore have the same speechwriter? In 2000, on a roof, Al said that the "catalytic-converter" proved "we could do it. Now Steven says eff. friges "prove the engineers can do it". So does he move that better insulation & neo-mags onto a car & get rid of the motor ENTIRELY? No! Pridle-patter about BioFUEL! Advises MORE INSULATION - when US is being thrown out in the street! Steven & hopeless parrots! He sold his ass to BP, Monsanto, DuPont & is left with NOTHING! 10 years behind.

  • Water isn't a fuel, but water is a component in photosynthesis that uses sunlight as the ultimate source of energy that ultimately converts a bunch of basic molecules (e.g., water, CO2) into fuels.

That's what Steven Chu was talking about, and that's totally energetically viable, but technologically we are no where there.

  • Is electricity or hydrogen too difficult to use or to produce? Why is it always coming back to fuel?

  • As long as we act like a pack of surly Chihuahua's fretting over a single bone nothing will ever change. What we really need is a Manhattan Project level of investment and resource dedication to find alternatives and economies and at the end of that process, we would find ourselves in a far better place.

  • MTBE ... need I say more?

    Cloning ...

    GMO ...

Scientist are lost at fundamental basics of conservation & nature friendly holistic peace with mother nature.

Get pregnant? Surgically snuff it! Don't bother ever KNOWING your fertility cycle by the Spinnbarkeit.

Compositing? HOW? Who ever advocates that vs. Dow Chemicals?

Holistic Medicine? Big Pharma would NEVER allow.

FAKE PLANTS? OVER IT! GOT IT?

    Get REAL!!!

  • Chu is an ANIMAL equivalent to a COCKROACH! Everytime he crooses the HOT PAVEMENT to his Motor-Car! His "solution"? MAKE MORE FUEL!!! Animal energy is that which DOESN'T ATTEMPT TO CHANGE CONDITIONS - EVEN TO THE POINT OF DEATH! Chu fits that description: instead of stepping back & finding that Motor-Less, Fuel-Less tech has been developed (& is being secretely implemented in China & Japan), he continues his destructive Fuel-Moaking course! He helps DOOM all the rest of you ANIMAL CONSUMERS!

  • HoHoHo we good 'ol mountain boys (Gore & Clinton) can sure dig the SCIENCE of BOOT-LEG WHISKEY! & those little critters that MAKE CORN INTO ALCOHOL, our good new buddy Steven can COOK UP IN THE LAB! Yeah, I'm a "loose cannon" who don't sign onto the "4-year plan"! THERE IS NO TIME! The Chinese & Japan have already had secret talks putting Mag/Gen-Mg/Drive Fuel-Less motorless tech into IMMEDIATE PRODUCTION! So cut the old Carter-era crap, because once you're gone, you won't come BACK!

  • There are so many alternatives to using oil and gas and scientists know this, hell science students know this, but the previous administration just abandoned any consideration by calling it a "liberal bias", that was the problem. Now, the rest of the developed world is far ahead in terms of oil dependence, while we're still trying to drill for oil in ANWR and the rockies like scavengers. It's a damn shame if you ask me. I hope Obama can bring some dignity back to the United States.

  • For some reason... I dont trust them to use water as fuel (in this regard).

  • Clearly you're missing the concept, probably because you're too busy choking on sour grapes.

This makes perfect sense. Oil inevitably, like almost everything on earth, gets its energy from the sun. Crude oil are plants that have been broken down over eons. So why not skip the geological middle man and get your energy directly from the sun, like plants. The difference between plants and oil is that plants are renewable.

Unlike coal and nuclear power which were McCain's only energy solutions.

  • oh, I got the "fake" concept. Dare never to ask people 2 compost, line dry clothing, bundle up, Hay Bail construct, hemp, reduce or eliminate meat/fish, solar, gardens, loose that 58% body fat, water conserv via toilet brick/ or new, goes on and on. We are gluts. FAKE it till ya make it? Sorry. FAKE it don't shake it with this girl.

  • Compost is nice but won't supplant the power grid of an entire nation. Everything you listed is an environmental (not necessarily energy) issues Americans should be responsible enough to deal with on an individual level, not the business of a presidential administration. Unless you're cool with the gov't dictating what to eat, the "fake plants" concept makes more sense than eliminating meat and fish.

But I suppose you're against glasses too, because it's "fake" vision.

  • Certain applications (aircraft, semi trucks) require energy dense fuels, which batteries and hydrogen do not qualify as. Energy dense fuels are the aim of these "plants". These scientists are trying to give use ability to keep our modern lifestyle and accommodate the developing world which expects the same, while at the same time putting us on something completely renewable. You can't win mass converts to the eco cause without giving the promise of a better, at least not worse, life ahead.

  • ???

Things don't look good for Berkley.

  • care to explain what you meant by that?
