I also love this variation of the album..... this has a contemporary rock sound. Its better than the We Five or whatever group performing the album.. Ian and Sylvia has always been the perfect duet. It is such a shame that they broke up. All the memories they have left us is their albums and the reunion concert, which unfortunately i have missed. So all I have left now is the blues.
The original version of "You were on my mind" was vastly superior. instead of unnecessary drumming, brass and unoriginal country guitar, the earlier version had gorgeous acoustic runs that brought the song to a powerful ending. This one just fades out, which is what the whole version should do.
@piehole23 Great Speckled Bird was started in 1968 by Ian and Sylvia, way before anybody else was doing the country rock sound. This IS the original version because Sylvia is the one who wrote the song, not anybody from we five, who's version is passable as well.
This is from the last album they did together (though the LIVE AT NEWPORT album would be released much later). And this would've been part of the Columbia "Best." But this album has never been released on CD. 3 songs, including this one, appear on the Vanguard release of songs not originally on Vanguard, LONG, LONG TIME. There are also 3 songs from the previous Columbia release, which also appeared on BEST. All the Vanguard stuff is on iTunes, including these tracks. None of the others are.
Wow, you got all the albums! My folks also have these albums too( the one that are shown in the video)!!! I am still looking for the Columbia Record release of The Best of Ian and Sylvia on a cd. Can you help?

How do you manage to get ALL the photos out-of-focus? That couldn't have been easy!

Thanks for posting but I liked the earlier version much better, the one on their "Northern Journey" album.
