This is really really late but I just wanted to suggest that people watch "The Happiness Place, Tale of an Osaka Love Theif". It's a British documentary on the Host world in Japan. Very VERY interesting and gives a good view of this world.
i saw that. It was pretty interesting. Most of the people in that documentary who in the hostess clubs were prostitutes who felt like they were all alone.
what u reckon - the guy is drunk or high ? or sleepy instead (jk!!) its ashamed (refering on unhealty lifestyle) bcos they all has good looking...but...hmm...idk we chose our own life innitz
What society that we are living in?!? This Host gave evidence for a way of instrumentalisation of emotion through money. Well done, that little social study Tanaka!!
^.^) oh well, its nice if your friend think that way, i agree with him U_U);;, i fell sorry for the hosts and for the the plp who looks for this kind of service .´_.)
His Japanese pronunciation isn't completely perfect. But I don't understand why people care whether he's acting or not. I come on youtube to get my few minutes of entertaining, and his videos sometimes fit that bill.
Ahh... Ken-san, I think honest introspection? introspectiveness? is very important in peoples' lives. I would enjoy hearing more about your philosophies on all different things. =)
ken, what exactly is a hostess club? we dont have that here!! what is going on in there, some drinking only?? it is not a strip club and also not a house of prostitutes, right? so, why is it not just called a club or discotheque ?!?! greetz
Girls, generally attractive are paid to make the customers feel important, ensure they have a good time and keep the drinks flowing. Customers are essentially paying for the company of attractive women. It is not unheard of however for long time clients to sleep with hostess/hosts.
If you want to find out more about hostess club, i suggest you to watch this film documentary called "The Great Happiness Space". It is about Osaka's host clubs and the service they provide. Trust me, its a great film.
Hey, ummm...this might be kind of a weird question, but did you experience any racism in Japan - with you being white and all? And if so was it a lot?
americans are not known for thinking before speaking. looking rehearsed in their responses is what often counts the most. he's thinking in the moment.
this is one of the most insightful videos i have seen about not only japans host clubs but the reasons that someone seeks out such things as dreams outside their normal life. thanks
Very interesting. I've been taken to a few hostess clubs when I would visit customers in Tokyo. They used my visiting as an excuse to go and all seemed to enjoy it. However, to me, the hostesses were really just supplementing the companionship they weren't getting from their wife or family. So it was quite depressing at times knowing the hostesses were just being nice because that's their job.
I always appreciate the subtitles Ken. ^^ But perhaps a different choice in font and colour could make it a bit easier to read because i have trouble...
Hey Ken - quality as usual! The whole Japanese take on mizu-shobai is kinda interesting for us non-Japanese. There certainly isn't any stigma about it here and it is funny how it exists in so many increments between literaly just pouring drinks and talking to full on "special" services. I've been meaning to watch the movie about Ai Iijima's life - it talks a lot about the soul destroying aspects at the other end of the scale, but it sounds a lot like this. Thought provoking...
It seems that this guy, having seen what it is like from the host's point of view, can allow himself to step into that world and enjoy it, but not get lost in it. Although he seems sad, I think he's also a bit lucky. It's been my experience that most tragedies bring a hidden benefit along with their obvious misery.
No, he seemed to be okay. What I meant is that he experienced the life of a host, but it wasn't for him. That it didn't work out is the tragic part. That, even while knowing how the host system works, he can still enjoy it, that is the hidden benefit.
All lives have one tragedy or another in them. The secret is to find the hidden benefit to them, like your friend has.
Host guy...Their job looks fun but I know it is so hard to keep it up. They have to sacrifice themselves instead of big pay. I can show some respect to some of them. Not all of them. It depends... If there are costomers, there are host or hostess. How simple it goes!...;
no wonder ur friend knows how the hosts/hostess works in that club. very interesting and i'm learning a lot from the japanese culture. thanx ken and keep making good videos! :)

i second that. what exactly is a hostess club i know when kelly osbourne went to japan she put an interesting spin on Japanese culture.
she went to one of these and it was just dudes dancing drinking and basically pretending they were her dates.
