Most of the comments I have seen about M3's are positive, I love mine and wouldn't change it for anything right now, but I like STI's too, they are cool, especially the 07's in black.
The only negative comments you get on an M3 are from the racist arseholes who connect them with Asians (not the term they use - but I am sure you know!) and say they are bad because of that.
Still they probably drive around in Rover 216i's to keep their 'british pride' intact...
@d1ez3 no they wouldnt.... its a very very light car putting out 343 hp at 3400 lbs... the 135 is putting out 300 hp at 3400 lbs..... the tuning of the engine is different as well ..... the 335 has a curb weight of close to 3600 lbs putting out 300hp even ignoring the fact that the e46 is naturally aspirated and the other two motors have twin turbos with almost the same engine displacement there is no comparison... the e92 m3 however would give this car a run for its money
@peaps Sorry mate for the verry late reaction, but that's not just what M is all about. M is about the suspension, the engine and all those others things. Sure the e90 335d could smoke it in a straight line. But who drives his bmw in a straight line? ;)
@wbi007 Hello.. No worries. Well, I've had both cars now, 2 years later. Currently got a 335d which has been remapped, and previous to that I had an e46 m3. Interestingly, I think the 335d is now cack even though straight line, it's about the same as an M3. Prior to map it was nowhere near.. Cant get on with the slush box and slow diesel response. M3 is where it's at, -period. My E46 M3 was a true drivers car, and its not till you own one that you really realise, so yeah, I agree with you..
@peaps i'm driving a 530d and i wish i had never baught it. Crappy performance and totally not satisfied with it. I would change it right back for a very nice looking e46 m3.
@peaps 335D...no. This M3 is much faster. The 335i would be closer but put the two on a race track and this E46 M3 will not only outrun the other's but it gives the driver a fun confident experience.

I think they're both incredible! Tiff is an amazing driver and is able to be so eloquant while doing 100mph slideways, whereas JC could just keep you entertained for hours with his brilliant presenting style! They're great.

I love the M3, but this generation around I don't see a big advantage over my 335ci. BMW made a bit of a mistake making the 335i more powerful than they claimed. Though, the M3 is a specialty motorsport car that the 335i isn't. All I can say is this generation around I would rather have an M5.
I've test driven the E46 and E92 on the track. I know the difference. My point is a few hundy on the 335i will put it in the acecleration ranks of the M3.

The E93 M3 reaches 0-62 in 4.8, the E46 M3 as Tiff confirms, reaches 0-62 in 4.8.
