ares 1 and ares v is the name of the two rockets. The spacecraft is called constellation. Same as saturn v 5 and apollo. Apollo was not the rocket but the spacecraft.
That's what I was thinking. Although I don't see why we couldn't use both at the same time and only use the shuttle for specific purposes that Constellation could not do.

Beautiful! The shuttle program has never lived up to its expectations of safety or performance but these vehicles still are absolutely amazing!

the space shuttle looks so great, that i hate it when we had to revert back to apollo-like capsule design spacecraft.

I think Orion is the orbiter, Altair is the lander, Ares I is the manned rocket (with orion) and Ares V is the unmanned rocket (with altair)

I'm not looking forward to it either, shuttle is so much better looking!

ya, but the conventional rockets are better for one man missions and for satellite launches since it cost less to send them up then the shuttel

You guys will like the Constellation just fine when we're beaming back Hi-Def videos from the surface of the Moon.
