  • The best country band. Fantastic musicians.

  • It must still be cold in Colorado in June! Everybody is bundled up!

  • This is from the DVD...

  • I was there from 1986 to 2001, when my life took many a drastic change. These men gave me JOY, year in, and year out. I love them SO much, as an avid fan can from afar. The pictures I was blessed to get, still appear on my "the days that were" shelf. I wish them ALL well. It appears John is "off the grid" for now. Wherever you are John...as well as Sam...my heart STILL belongs to both you! Bless you both and, PLEASE, be well! <3

  • @laylahh1951 John is on tour with The Doobie Brothers! Sounding great-he was with them for a while in the late 80's, now he is their permanent bass player. Pat Flynn has been touring with Michael Martin Murphey.

  • @laylahh1951 Well said. Check out Strength in Numbers the Telluride Sessions if you haven't already.

  • Saw Sam in TUpelo for FREE last thurs! Still great but not as hyper and boistrous as I remember in the past, I think that made 6 times that I'd seen him, maybe he was sick...hope not . Saw NGR in 79,84,Bela '93,Sam 09 and 10 and '11. And JOhn COwaN band in '08 and '10. What went with Pat Flynn? They are awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This if from the DVD...boooooo

  • i was there! hells to the yes!

  • The song name is "Deeper and Deeper,". It's on their 1981 album, "Commonwealth." It's a GREAT album, every cut is fantastic. They have two live albums out, one from Telluride 1977. Sam Bush and John Cowan still have vibrant solo careers, you can find 'em places. To hear John sing, live, is awe-inspiring.

  • From about 3:15 - 6:10 --> Simply Awesome!!!

  • Why isn't this performance included on any Telluride albums? I want to buy an MP3 of this performance. Who do I pay?

  • This is another Bob Lucas song that NGR did. Bob does it wonderfully as well. He is one of a kind. Great writer, great musician

  • @kjfeit

    What's the name?

  • Comment removed

  • @kjfeit To north005. Sorry, I misunderstood the question. The song title is "Deeper and Deeper".

  • @kjfeit

If you know these guys, tell them we in south Mississippi are starving - STARVING - for a good concert. We don't have any good venues, but we've got fields a' plenty.

  • What's the name of this song? Where can I get a DVD or CD of this?

  • eran, son y seran los mejores

  • Lyrics are a little corny but the chord structure , instrumentation and arrangement are frikken great.

  • @ekpil The lyrics don't seem corny too me. But yeah the high points of this song is what you mentioned. Esp. the solos, I love a band that can improvise, esp. when its New Grass. I really wish the solos would have been longer.

  • Awesome to see New Grass together. Where's Pat though?

  • @CadillacL I wwas wondering the same thing. Odd to see any New Grass song with no great solo from Pat. Sam and Bela are fantastic, but I miss Pat Flynn!

  • Wow is that Brad Davis on the guitar?

  • While I admire them all solo, I like them best together. This is great to see! I wonder why Pat wasn't there also?

  • Man, this song gives me goosebumps. It's so weird seeing them grown up...

Oh yeah, where's Pat? It would have been especially nice to see the whole classic lineup.

  • That long sustaining Harmony was Right ON MAN between Sam and John Boy..

    WOW!!!

  • @7211098 I was thinking earlier today about how rarely singers are really on. Guess there are a few times when they actually are. WOW!

  • I just seen John Cowan's Band on Sunday in NH at a place called Harlows..

15 people at best in the whole place for such a Giant like John.

3 piece trio. They were Awesome!!!!!

  • @7211098 I've seen monster talents in situations like that. They're usually bummed that almost no one showed up, but they seem to play far better for a few people than they could under just about any other circumstance.

  • Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!

  • they sound so together... thank you

  • Im a big cardinals fan im from st.louis and thats the shit sams got the jersey on he is a badass.

  • I was lucky enough to be there for this performance, they were absolutely great. Even if you have to sell your soul, get to the Telluride Music Festival on the summer solstice! Heavan on Earth.

  • Cowan, Bush and Fleck. The Trinity!

  • I'm still gratefull the powers to be are leaving this tune on Y-Tube!!! I would have loved to have been there!!!! This is American folk music at it's best!!!!

  • If ANYONE has the guitar chords for this song, I will give you a check for $1,000 to post them here!

Not that the check will actually clear, you understand ;)

  • Okay...capoed at the third or fourth fret...can't tell for sure.

    NEXT!

  • @glennorange. I picked them up a while ago by ear, and they all seem to be variations of the F Chord. First is F with the 3rd string up a half step, then the F chord, and then F with an open third string. Wash, rinse, repeat. I expect my check within two weeks.

  • @RobertELee01 The F chords you are thinking of is F7 and F7sus4.

  • @HillbillyJ Ah, thank you. I'm not the best with chord variations as you can see : P. Still learnin'.

  • @RobertELee01 Oh no problem. I had to think about it myself. Its a really neat progression.

  • such pipes this man has! bella fleck on banjo, yes! and sam bush carrys the attitude of literal NEWgrass... Love it!

  • Excellent piece of work!!!

  • Whats amazing to me is that its been years since Fleck, Bush, and Cowan toured full time in the New Grass Revival together but yet somehow they still sound tighter together now than they ever did before! Fantastic!

Awesome vid, thanks for the upload!

  • We have the Tell. BG. video for that year and this song is our favorite. We go to Colorado every year. We can't wait to go to Telluride for a BG Fest. soon. We love this. Thank you for "Music".

  • this is why i love bluegrass.. everyone is so positive and peaceful and everyone gets along.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video!! I loved every second of this performance

  • The song id Deeper and Deeper from the Commonwealth album. You can get the song from Amazon and such. And a humungous THANK YOU to the poster!!!!

  • You should hear the guy who wrote this song perform it. Deeper and Deeper by Bob Lucas. The Revival did a lot of Bob Lucas' stuff. Sometimes it great to hear these renditions, but Lucas, man o man, what a singer and guitarist!!

  • what's the name of this song?

  • Great Video, I like this but I would take the Sam Bush Band Any Day

  • The Telluride Festival is something that every music fan should experience at least once in their lives. These musicians share their talents with the crowd with great mutual respect, and the feeling in the crowd is magical. Seeing parents children, and senior citizens all enjoying the music is a wonderful experience. The mountain venue is perfect for this music! Planet Bluegrass has to be congratulated for their responsible stewardship of this magical event.

  • Bela Fleck king of jazzyfunkgrass!

  • Any more where this came from? And who's on guitar: Jon Randall? It's kind of dark.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Looks like Brad Davis on guitar to me.

  • This is so aweomse - didnt know they still do this kind of thing in 2000ies . . . !

  • As good as it gets. Where is this video from?

  • Telluride Bluegrass Festival, June 2003 (30th anniversary)

Its written above as well ;)

  • @MrMacWilkens whats the song name?

  • @MrMacWilkens The first fest I missed in 18 years. Unfortunately, have not been able to attend since 2002, though EVERY Father's Day week-end, my heart flies to that canyon in God/dess's Country.

  • i LOOOOOVE this friggin song, 'specially on this vid. anyone know who the guitar player is? thankin you in advance......

  • brad davis

  • If things couldn't get any worse, I had brought a blind date that resembled Courtney Love. She told John what a great mandolin player I am and how he should hire me for his band and how much it would improve his sound.

  • I was lucky enough to see John's band w/ Scott Vestal when they came to the Sound Factory in WV. There were only twenty people there. The club had a rude soundman (Mr. Feedback) that was intent on making them sound as bad as possible. Can you believe it? None of the guys were in a good mood. They still put on a great show.

  • Anyone know the date of this? I think I was there! Fantastic!!

  • Telluride Bluegrass Festival, June 2003 (30th anniversary)

  • Hey Grumpy says a big 10-4, and thanks for sharing this!!!!

  • OUTSTANDING vid. thanks for posting.

  • the cowman is the best
