Very nice job and well formulated test.. I'm guessing you have an engineering background?
Other than the RWS pointed pellet, energy transfer results are about what i would have guestimated. Should you ever want to try others, contact me and I'll send along other brands of .22 pellets. I'm thinking the results from a test on crow mags, silver bears and kodiak's might be interesting.
@weehooker Thanks, 2 year engineering background and a lot of extracurricular thermodynamics research, mostly dealing with high speed fluid dynamics, I love that stuff :)
I did want to do some more tests with pellets like the Crow Magnum and Kodiak, I just didn't have them at the time, nor did I have the money. But I really want to do this test again, I'm going to try to get a big collection of new pellets and do it again this coming summer, so stay tuned if you're interested.
@emanuelf11 Yeah, I talked about two hollow-point pellets I tested, did you watch this whole video? I tested the RWS Super H-Point and the JSB Predator Polymag (hollow-point with polymer cone)
@Trekkie1961 I agree Trekkie ,very informative and well done . Unlike 90 percent of the videos on you tube that is all music and text added to describe, He is talking and explaining thing to us . Great videos thank you for your work Apotheosis
hey really great videos. i just want your suggestions, should I buy Benjamin Trail NP XL 1100 .22 or .22 Cal. Remington® NPSS Digital Camo? and hunting is a part of my life so i want the best rifles before i buy them. Please explain the best way you can because I am stuck choosing between the two of them. And also the best pellets for hunting for velocity, penetration and accuracy? Sorry if i ask a lot but judging by your videos you should the one answering my questions. Thank you!
@MrCoonTrapper Domed pellets generally have a good mix between penetration and tissue damage, and small animals like coons have skulls that aren't too difficult to penetrate, but with the fox I believe it might depend on the size. I'm not positive about the fox, i'd be inclined to say that they'd penetrate, i'm just not positive. happy hunting! let me know if they do their job haha i'm curious too
@BoogieWithStew Not sure if I'm gonna be doing many more of these =/ I would love to, but it was kind of expensive and I don't have the gel anymore. The main point of this was to test a very wide range of pellet shapes, displaying how some of the most popular brands for each shape performed in ballistics gel. However, if I do end up doing more ballistics gel tests, I'll be sure to put these pellets into consideration, as I would like to see the results for them as well :) stay tuned!
@ApotheosisTK117 what do you think would be the best pellet for breaking in the benjy np xl 1100, and for long range accuracy-target practice, maybe even some good long range kills??
@DMPKillaz Not quite sure what would make a particular pellet better for breaking a gun in than another pellet. I just bought a big tin of Crosman Premiers and spent them all before doing anything serious with target practice or hunting. I use the JSB Diabolo Exact Jumbo for long distance. They have excellent accuracy at long range, from what I've done myself. I went shooting at a 100 yard range and with cross-winds and everything, i would get a 4-5 inch group.
@DMPKillaz As for long range hunting, I would go with the JSB Predator Polymag. It has the polymer tip to keep aerodynamics (it has a ballistics coefficient of ~0.026, VERY good for a hollow-head pellet, and therefore keeps its velocity and energy better), and since it has the hollow-head design, it also will still expand on impact with the target. However, if penetration at long range is what you're looking for, then I would go back to the JSB Diabolo Exact Jumbo.
@ballhawk210 A gas ram is definitely better. Even though it's a little bit heavier, it's much more smooth, consistent, quiet and more reliable since it's going to last longer than a spring. As for the gun comparison, I don't really know. I've never had an RWS gun, and I haven't done much research on the 350 mag. Sorry I can't help there =/
@ballhawk210 This pellet rifle is a break barrel, so you don't need to buy propane or anything and you can only do single shots between breaks. As for the bird hunting, I'd recommend the JSB Predator Polymag pellet for all hunting. But that's just my opinion

Using the Benjamin 1100 what would the JSB do to the Gel at 50 yards. And could it kill a Rabbit at that distance .

Watched all your ballistics test videos. Very informative and well. done. Could have done without the music. But hey I'm old.

I think I'll use the crosmans, do you think these will penetrate a coon or foxes skull?

Fantastic tests! Would love to see gel tests for these in the future:
1) Beeman Crow-Magnum (18.20 Grains, Hollowpoint)
2) Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy (21.10 Grains, Round Nose)
3) Crosman Premier (14.3 Grains, Hollowpoint)

Which JSB Preditor did you use? There are at least 4 that I know of. Polimag, bigboy, bigboy senior etc.?
Thanks.

@KGiveans JSB Predator Polymag, the hunting one with the red polymer tip
ApotheosisTK117 1 year ago
Wow, One that I never would have imagined. I figured that one for high penetration rather than extreme expansion. Thanks.
