Hopped on the 14 day fee trial (full game now), played it, almost resubscribed after being without it for almost 6-7 years, saw the abomination that is now Freeport, quickly retracted my decision. Huge disappointment SoE, why would you ruin it that way?!?!?!?

I remember Boomba always standing there and scratching his ass, and I remember getting some bound armor or something on my low-level bard and it disappeared after a while. Waaaay back in like 02.
Lol I remember camping right outside those gates with my enchanter, and just blasting guards left and right. Then watching the noobs run for the guards when they pulled too many creatures at one time ^^

They ruined the Game by dumbing it down and at the same time make it insanely hard to accomplish anything. So instead of "traveling" they made port stones. Instead of fixing the ships that took you to and from each continent they put wizard gnomes NPC to port you. "Plane of Knowledge" connected all newbie areas so the world seemed much smaller and less immersive.
They pandered to the "high game". Raiders couldn't be bothered with "travel" when setting up.
What is amazing is in terms of "time" this really was not that long ago. A decade is not a very long time in the grand scheme of life. Look how much technology has boomed since this time. Though there is nothing like the feel of the original EQ. I never played a game after this that had the same feel.
I'd cry if I heard the Bard's Guild music right now. Hahaha
I miss the audio in the game as well. I miss 4 melees attacking a Hill Giant all at once, and every single attack made, the giant would groan. So, with about 500 swings per minute, you talkin' about one loud as shit fight!
I play at the moment WoW, but if 989 studios would get back and make a Remake of Everquest Classic, and would start it all again, i would quit WoW and played this........ oh oh
EQ *was* a real world. I played so much that I would step outside and the real world wouldn't even seem real to me. I've since learned my lesson, but man...Everquest blew me away for years. It had such immersion and an awesome community, something that WoW really lacks.
We will relive classic EQ and eventually Kunark and Velious.

Oh, they absolutely destroyed it. I played back in 1999 and 2000, and came back when they reactivated my account for free for a while. Freeport is just absurdly terrible now.
I'd still play if they were to launch a through-Velious server. The Bazaar _did_ make auctioning less time consuming but on the other hand: I WORKED FOREVER GETTING MY IKSAR MONK'S FACTION UP SO I COULD SHOW OFF AND BANK IN FREEPORT! Oh well, if I ever become filthy-stinking rich then I'll gladly _pay_ Sony to open one. The world needs an MMORPG that people can actually suck at playing--skill and intelligence mean nothing anymore in the online gaming world.
nice vid, though it would have been nice to hear some of the classic songs that went along with the areas.. I personally always liked the music in the Bard's guild.... but otherwise great vid, I miss EQ, especially FP, where most of my chars spent most of their time....
I knew this zone like the back of my hand. I remember camping Jakom at the Arena with my Necro for like 7 levels. He was a 35, I believe, with really low resists. His poor pathing and low resists made him an easy kill for a 25 caster. My Iksar necro conned kindly to WFP after grinding him so long. Being able to sit by the guards as the most hated race/class in the game was such an accomplishment!
Oh my god! Thank you so much for taking me down memory lane! I absolutely ADORED this town...having grown up in it, it always held a soft spot in my heart, despite how my friends hated it.
Oh, and by the way LMFAO @ 3:11! I always hated that freakin' door.
Newer style gamers wouldn't understand, but it was my favorite place, you should make one at night, and turn the models down to get the full classic feel. Nice vid though.
you guys check this out....i was a major alt-o-holic when i played back in the day. i never got past like lvl 12. all i would do is hunt in freeport. ive probly killed more pawns,bats,snakes,fire beetles ect. than anyone ever. oh and P.S if SOE was a person i would slow slit his throat and smile the whole time while he dies from blood loss /grin

That version of EQ has the most exaggerated environmental sounds I have ever heard in a game. Did you guys even hear the guy walk in water? Every step he took sounded like a rifle was fired inside a large tiled room.
I remember going through the false section of the cities wall, and getting killed by Drowned Citizens.
