I have to say, I feel sorry for the woman losing her grandfather, but he worked for Batista. Revolution was inevitable because of what Batista did to the Cuban people. A lot of people get good ratings: that doesn't make them automatically right. I'm sure I could find people whose views clash with Beck's who have good ratings. It doesn't change the fact however, that Beck is distorting facts about what Communism is and is misinterpretating Marx's ideals. The key element of all these philosophies is the centralization of all power, and that is too great a prize for the Totalitarian.
The key element of dictatorships like Soviet Russia and Maoist China is that they were born in violent military coups in dirt poor countries where the people were suffering. The socializing of necessities like, for example, health care weren't really the key to these people gaining power. In fact, the Bolsheviks made several Capitalist economic concessions after seizing power. They only ended up grabbing up things like the banks during the Civil War to keep the White Army from using them.
And by "dirt poor" countries I mean typically countries with a staggeringly rich upper class and a lower class that has nothing. The US has a pretty bad rich/poor disparity but it's nothing compared to Tsarist Russia or China at the twilight of the Qing dynasty.

Let's try a word picture: Imagine "GOVERNMENT POWER" as a series of concentric rings. The outer ring's the largest, and most diffuse, and is spread to the most people, giving the government the least power -- Democracy.

I have to say, I feel sorry for the woman losing her grandfather, but he worked for Batista. Revolution was inevitable because of what Batista did to the Cuban people. When Republicans came back into legislative power, they started overturning it, and unemployment skyrocketed. It doesn't change the fact however, that Beck is distorting facts about what Communism is and is misinterpretating Marx's ideals. Beck seems to think that Marx and Engels intended these things to happen, and that Stalin, Guevara, Mao etc. are exemplifying what Communism is meant to be - the truth is, that there has not been a single Communist nation in the history of the world, nor a true Communist leader - instead, just people who have hidden under the 'veil' of Communism or have used Marxist ideals to try to justify their horrible crimes.

Perhaps you should listen to what I've been saying, rather than just assuming. I outright said that I don't agree with Communism and don't think it'll ever work - and I'm certainly not a romantic idealist. My point was that Beck however generalises, assumes and makes comments that range from being sensationalist to being outright fabrication. Just because I don't side with Beck, that doesn't make me pro-Communist or pro-socialist.

Marx took this theory one step farther and crafted economic theories, coupled it with collectivism, and militarism of an entire society. Communist dictators are the marriage of Fascism and communism. The aim of Government is to create Communism with a dictator tuned to the 'general will of the people.'

Che's words said he wanted to be a 'human killing machine.' He believed that Castro would bring about equality, education, and universal health care. In these matters, Castro was an abject failure; and Che was captured in Bolivia where he was attempting to bring about another revolution.

I believe in revolution brought about by bloodshed, if that revolution frees the people. Like the American Revolution, or the French Revolution. There are dozens of examples of this. The key element of dictatorships like Soviet Russia and Maoist China is that they were born in violent military coups in dirt poor countries where the people were suffering. The socializing of necessities like, for example, health care weren't really the key to these people gaining power. In fact, the Bolsheviks made several Capitalist economic concessions after seizing power. They only ended up grabbing up things like the banks during the Civil War to keep the White Army from using them.

And by "dirt poor" countries I mean typically countries with a staggeringly rich upper class and a lower class that has nothing. The US has a pretty bad rich/poor disparity but it's nothing compared to Tsarist Russia or China at the twilight of the Qing dynasty.

Statements like this always make me chuckle, because what it fails to recognize is that on a sliding scale of "rich/ poor disparities" the U.S. has more "parity" than just about any other country you could cite. We are not perfect, and could always improve, but Socialism/ Communism is a step backwards, not forwards.

Let's try a word picture: Imagine "GOVERNMENT POWER" as a series of concentric rings. The outer ring's the largest, and most diffuse, and is spread to the most people, giving the government the least power -- Democracy.
The next ring in might be a Republic, and then smaller a Parliamentary System, and so on. Each smaller ring represents the government gaining more power, while the people have less. Well, Socialism is one of the smallest, with absolute dictator, or emperor in the middle.

What you must realize is that while Socialism/ Communism may not necessarily be the cause of the atrocities that are portrayed in this video, they are certainly the reason that the necessary conditions existed for them to occur.
There's a reason why Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, and Mao didn't set out to build a Constitutional Republic based on the "rule of law" and "inalienable rights." There's a reason they (dictators) despise Capitalism! Because, these systems rob them of power!

The word model that I used was very apt. In fact, it's not original to me. I read it -- in a book. It was a study in Political Science.
Neither side disputes this model because it's quite accurate. In planned economies, the state necessarily has more power and control, and the people less (goodbye democracy.) In free markets, the people necessarily need more freedom. PolySci 101.

Thanks for palying, a planned economy is the model for almost every country in the world right now. Even America has a mixed goverenment/private economy. The big debate is how much of it goes to the Statre and how much is in corperate hands.

Oh, I read Das Kapital and even wrote a paper on why the described Lohmann-Ruchti effect is basically bullshit. But if you read the communists works carefully, esp. the ones mentioning the creation of a new generation of people ("Bewusstsein zur Arbeit"), you will see that communism is a lot more than just an economic model.

Beck is using scary sayings from the Manifesto without bothering to explain how the history of the past 100 years has affected political theory.
