Lightnin Hopkins killed this and every other goddamn thing he did. period. When a man is sleepin and wakes up to tell you that your B string is outta tune while you're in mid-song recording, you know you're fuckin with the best
sam hopkins is incredible, so many songs, always adding to his style, his way of getting across, a true spirit of the blues, never dimmed, a positive person who was up with progressive times, a black man who had to grind out a living despite being a bigger talent. he is a one of a kind bluesman and we are the richer for his artistic truth.
all the artist and bands that i listen to send me back to basics. the roots , ''the blues'' jack white , the kills , the black keys etc and this music needs to get back like jim morrison once said , rock is dead ! keep the blues alive
I feel ya brother... the amazing REAL BLUES voice of the legendary Lightin Hopkins ... I saw a movie the other day and it had one of his songs... someone said WHO is THAT... I could not understand ... His style and sound is instantly reconizable... Often copied... rarely matched...
@kcdudedave can you tell me which movie has lightnin's songs in it?
to me he's BY FAR better than those crappy BB king or stevie ray vaughan, which on the other hand are quite idolized in the blues community.
The 3 greatest blues players to me are, in order of preference, Lightnin Hopkins, Skip James and John Lee Hooker. And Lightnin and Skip are not recognized for what they did. They deserve way more.
@taurtue Crappy Stevie Ray Vaughn? Come on man, that´s fuckin ridiculous, he was a great guitarist who was inspired by guitarists like John Lee Hooker. Just because he is more well known than Hopkins doesn´t make him crappy. I tottaly agree with you on Hopkins and Skip James, though. These songs are fantastic and heavily underrated gems, but seriously, don´t call Stevie crappy. Also sorry for reacting on an 11 month old comment, but I just had to say this.
Lightnin Hopkins is one of the Greatest Blues singers/picker of all time, and I am the first person to make a comment? Not going to lie... That makes me feel the blues.
