The bike is brilliant to ride, probably a bit down on power on the 07 R1 I had, but way more useable, and the noise (with Akro's of course) is mental!

@XaleTorren It wouldn't be good idea, cos throttle is very sensitive on this thing and its not for novice riders or learning . If u want something fast to learn riding on R6 would be much safer idea cos its not so powerfull in low rpms. But still "not so powerfull ..." relatively to R1.

@XaleTorren Actually 250cc bike is perfect as first to learn basics as throttle control, breaking , shifting & steering . My first bike was 125cc Aprilia RS 125 and I can tell u I nearly touched about 3 cars in oncoming lane when I got too fast in the turn or did any other mistake . Image sitting on R1 ... these mistakes would be brutally amplified and I would be probably dead. I can tell u R6 is quite deadly as first bike too, everyone will tell u this.
@FliskerX I really just want to avoid a 250cc or 125cc, ive heard honda cbr600 is a decent first bike, not as good as 250r but not bad, would you know of any bikes around 600cc that dont have an electronic throttle and dont have that much of a kick.
Btw how much of a difference is there in riding a cruiser bike vs a sports bike, i could get a cruiser to learn somethings on.
@XaleTorren Riding cruiser bikes is different than sports, if u want to buy R1 in future u should choose smaller sport bike now for sure. CBR 600/R6/GSX-R600 should be fine if "u are able go slow" at least for some time, these bikes are getting huge kick in power after 9-10k rpms so u should be probably able learn basics in low rpms. But still u will need to be very carefull and it will be much more dangerous than with 125/250cc. Of course it's up to you and this is just my opinion ;)

@XaleTorren I am buying R1 actually right now :) (On saturday I am going to pick her up). I would say 40-50k kilometres is max for these engines can do as far as I know, so 1-20k would be good (1,6kilometer = 1mile). Main things for me when buying bike are that it have be able shift all geras smoothly and if u leave handlebars in +- 60-70miles/h it should go straight forward. I would advice u get some experienced rider with u and let him ride bike and check if it's ok.Btw sorry for mmy english:)

the only thing i dont like about the 09 r1 is the sound and it seems like what ever pipes you put on it they all sound the same but other than that it looks and rides great i love the new headlights.

Everyone has been talking about this R1's sound.
Maybe it's Akrapovic, but doesn't sound so impressive. IMO.

dont really like the new look..but i supose there doing a hole new look for the r1 now as its comeing up for 2010..all stick to my cbr for now

the new R1 looks ugly in my opinion. The head lights looks weird. Should've kept the headlight the same. The bike looks a little fat. R1 is one of my favorite bike thought the new version I dont like at all.

i disagree but then again thats just me i ride a 2004 gsxr 600 i know its not even close to the r1 but almost all 600s are the same as are most 1000s i believe what makes it a sport bike is how you ride it ;}

I prefer the Exhaust note from the I4 of the MV Agusta f4 312rr 1078. :) Thats a sound of gods. Its a very nice sound though.
