I don't know why people fight about this so much. Either God exists or he doesn't. If he doesn't, then there is really no harm done by believing in him, despite it not being true. If he does exist, then non-believers are in trouble and believers aren't. I believe in God. If he doesn't exist then when I die the same thing will happen to me as everyone else, and if he does exist then I'll go to heaven. I think I'll stick with believing on the off chance he does exist ;)

Over the course of history the belief in one god or another is responsible for more systematic death and destruction than any other singular idea. Im not jumping on Christianity, the same is true of all religions. Its the inherent belief that you are right and everyone with a different view is wrong that irks me. I agree with you to some extent about 'indoctrination'. However the way this occurs in religion is far more sinister than that which occurs in atheism. In religion your parents beliefs are drummed into you, whereas in atheism the idea is generally explained and dismissed. Im not disputing it is indoctrination, but to say its on the same level is a bit of a push, you appear to forget that the concept of religion is given very little time by an atheist, its just not that important.
@TheFagOfChrist Whether parent's belief has been "drummed" into children is usually pretty irrelevant. I don't believe in God because my parents believed in God. Kids that grew up in Christian homes might grow up to be atheists, and kids that grew up in an atheist home might become Christian in adulthood. I sincerely hope people don't grow up in a certain religion or "non-religion" just because thats what their parents told them.
@scottymcspockirk94 While you may not believe in god because you parents do, your parents play a major part in the development of that belief, as you said there are exceptions, but generally our parents encourage us along their own path until we are old enough to decide direction for ourselves, so the belief a parent instills in their child is not irrelevant, its predominant for the first 18 years. The parents religion is the determining factor of a childs religion.

I saw all your comments. Please listen to me. In catholic schools, all of us learnt the book of Luke and Acts of the Apostles. Peter focus on the Jews. After Paul's conversion, he merely helped Peter to tech to the Gentiles, which is basically us while Peter overlook the administration since he was elected to be the first bishop by Jesus Himself. I converted to be a catholic after reading taking the courses. As Paul said, stop squabbling among yourself.

I don't know why people fight about this so much. Either God exists or he doesn't. If he doesn't, then there is really no harm done by believing in him, despite it not being true. If he does exist, then non-believers are in trouble and believers aren't. I believe in God. If he doesn't exist then when I die the same thing will happen to me as everyone else, and if he does exist then I'll go to heaven. I think I'll stick with believing on the off chance he does exist ;)

I agree with you to some extent about 'indoctrination'. However the way this occurs in religion is far more sinister than that which occurs in atheism. In religion your parents beliefs are drummed into you, whereas in atheism the idea is generally explained and dismissed. Im not disputing it is indoctrination, but to say its on the same level is a bit of a push, you appear to forget that the concept of religion is given very little time by an atheist, its just not that important.

Kids that grew up in Christian homes might grow up to be atheists, and kids that grew up in an atheist home might become Christian in adulthood. I sincerely hope people don't grow up in a certain religion or "non-religion" just because thats what their parents told them.

The parents religion is the determining factor of a childs religion.

Christianity is a standout religion, which gives it great credibility, because it offers both a savior and tells us that we are unable to account for our sins on our own and we need a savior to take away our sin
