  • Is it hard to restore the control panel.. Is there a how to guide? And if I purchase a decicated MK cab with great artwork, but it has a different game, where do I go to purchase arcade stuff to work on it? Thanks

  • @ozzman8 You can get an original MK game boardset off Ebay for about $40-100. Tornado Terry or Twisted Quarter (search on Google) sell sticks, buttons, and etc. (They sell on Ebay, too.) Also, search "The Real Bob Robert's" for a lot of good arcade-related parts. Game On Grafix (search it) does reproduction artwork (for control panels and sideart). Not sure about a cp how-to guide, but search Google and YouTube for it, and I'm sure you'll find something or search the BYOAC forum.

  • I found a mk1 cabinet on kijiji and went to see it but it doesn't look like this.. Does that mean its not original??

  • @jameswitter It is most likely a MK kit that has been installed into a non-dedicated cabinet. They sold the board kits so operators could do this to make a profit without the cost of the entire dedicated machine. The kits could be purchased with smaller versions of Mortal Kombat artwork that could be placed on the repainted cabinets to convert them. Sometimes the entire button/joystick setup would come with a kit and even a wiring harness to make the conversion very easy to do.

  • Thumbs up if you have an Arcade Room in your house.

  • what!? i saw this on ebay and it's like $955 or even more!!!

  • @godjason12 Yeah, I think I got a decent deal. Would have been better if it had been local though.

  • @ancientwhip7 dude thats Johnny Cage.... even the creators say it is....

  • damn that is nice wish have the space and mony to buy the real arcade but the snes version of the game is pretty much the same

  • @videogamecollecto100 I always liked the SNES version (better graphics and sound than Genesis, just nerfed fatalities though), but if you ever play the arcade version for any length of time, and then replay the SNES version, you'll notice a big difference.

  • I WANT THAT SOOOOO MOTHER#%$#&^# BAD!!!!

  • the sound when you insert the coin..................hmmmmmmmm delicius

  • @ancientwhip7 Except for when the characters are scrolling on the title screen, Kang isn't in this video anywhere. I think you need to check your vision. Johnny Cage is the character on the side of the MK1 cabinet. Liu Kang wasn't on ANY of the MK arcade cabinets.

  • You obviously know your shit, seems like you really paid for this cab but it will come together and be worth it in the end. Absolutely. IT already looks great mate.

  • @Shilo83 Thanks man.

  • @TortureBot YOU ARE SOOOOO LUCY ..... im trying to find mk1 arcade machine but i cant find one .... ebay dosent have one .... i have 1000 $ how much did u buy it ?

  • @ORENGEcarot I paid $880 including the $355 to ship it. Ebay user pakmann888 has a machine listed as "Cool Boarder 2" which is in a dedicated MK1 cabinet with very good side artwork. If you don't mind the work, you can restore the control panel back to MK1 (likely has original art under the newer) and replace the current board set with an MK1 from Ebay ($30-$80) and an original MK1 marquee ($10-$25). He only wants $350 Buy-It-Now for it, but you'd have to ship from Pasadena, California.

  • @KingErnest23 $525 for the machine, and another $355 for shipping (blanket-wrapped delivery in a pickup from Florida to South Carolina). So $880 total, really.

  • ahh the memories...first time i played this around 1992, i thought it was so hard, i'd never played anything like this.

  • @Hambag2009 Yeah, the digitized graphics and wicked oriental music drew me in. And then there was all the glorious gore... :)

  • I actually purchased the Jakks Pacific Plug and Play edition of Mortal Kombat five years ago and is very faithful to the arcade original. The music is a bit off and there are no animated backgrounds but the character animations, voices and fatalities are all arcade perfect. The Pit stage is also full in that version and reptile is also included. I still play it from time to time and has a special place in my heart. However, you're very lucky to own the original.

  • @fanblow Yeah I heard the Jakks unit was pretty faithful in it's gameplay. I might try to pick one up to tinker with.

  • @TortureBot Nah, you got a goldmine there. If I were to exchange my Jakks Pacific version for your Arcade version, I'd do so. Trust me, you keep your arcade version, as it will be very valuable. My Jakks Pacific version would probably be worthless. LOL Although, Mortal Kombat is still fun to play to this day. This is the game that started it all.

  • @fanblow

The Jakks one was very poor. It's stiff, the music is nowhere near the same, it's missing the FMV, and mine was glitchy. It would freeze and lock up all the time.

Mine was the one with the controller built into the unit, without an actual joystick. So if they made another version, I don't know, but the one I have was like a poor, poor port.

As far as the arcade games in the video go, and color goes, Mortal Kombat 2 had more color. The graphics were more saturated.

  • I envy you man haha. MK1 and 2 are two games I want to own in arcade cabinet form someday.

Do you have any idea if they are rare and how much they usually cost?

  • @everett1911 There are several MK2's on Ebay right now. I think they are going for Buy-It-Now from about $500-800. A couple are starting at about $200 on the bids, too. There are also a couple of MK1's up for bids. Two of them have some bad fading, but one looks really nice. If it's still on there they wanted about $900 BIN for it I think. MK1 is MUCH harder to find than MK2, especially with unfaded art on the sides.

  • this guy is serious with his collection no sega nintendo half ass graphics for him he went all the way with the real deal, awsome collection dude, im collecting the home versions good luck you should get them all =)

  • @mivecturbo I collect a "little" for consoles. But I had to have the real MK1 and MK2 arcade machines. I have a small NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega Master System, Intellivision, Odyssey 2, Commodore 64, & TI-994A collection. I have a larger Atari 2600 collection with a 4-switch woodgrain console and an original "heavy-sixer" console with 250-300 cartridges. Hard not to indulge in the nostalgia of old-school console gaming.

  • @TortureBot yeah i would love to have an arcade machine just sitting in my master room crank it up and wake every body up lol awsome video by the way, street fighter and killer instinc are good arcade games too =)

  • @mivecturbo I never really got into the Street Fighter games, but would still like to obtain a SF Champion JAMMA board one day. I liked Killer Instinct as soon as I saw it at the local theater when it hit the market. I never got into it like I did MK, but it is a cool game.

  • is this still for sale

  • @MrRyandogg1 Was only for sale when I bought it from the last owner. It's in it's permanent home here now.

  • no no isnt it from the original photos that they were a bit odd in the colors almost like that effect used of saving private ryan, i would show you a url but i cant on here. looks great and im very jealous. haha

  • Wow, this takes me back. If i had tons of money spare, i'd so make this the first arcade cabinet to buy. This summed up my teenage years completely, thanks for showing us your video.

  • @6suicide6shady6 You're welcome. I doubt I'll ever get rid of the MK1 or the MK2. They hold the same memories for me, though I was in my early twenties then.

  • we have one of these in the shop and its going to the dump tomarrow if i dont take it. i was wondering what they are worth or if i could make any money off of it? it is however in rough shape and the screen only works sometimes. any idea what its worth?

  • @killratoss Depends on the condition & buyer of course. Most people would take the cabinet gutted & rebuild it if the art on the side is bright and in good shape. If the art is badly faded (looks like it's going black and white) it's usually not worth much at all if it also doesn't work well. The circuit boards inside can bring $20-75 if they work. T-Unit brings more than Y-Unit usually (2 types of circuit boards) Cab worth $75-150 faded, $250-500 with nice artwork. (My opinions only!)

  • @killratoss i would buy for 150 because of the screen thing. but i would raise it up to 200 maybe 220 if you want.

  • IIIII WAAAAANNNNNTTTTT ONNNNE REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD :(

  • you are lucky i looked on ebay and they had none :(

  • @bassmass1000 They come along every so often, mostly ones with faded artwork. But I'd try to look through all the listings I could at other machines, 'cause people will put up MK1 machines with other boards in them and list them as like "Tekken" or something. I have seen excellent cabinets listed this way. Just get one like that and put an MK1 pcb set back in it and there you go.

  • @bassmass1000 Ive' seen like 2 on the past week.

  • @ImperialIceDragon well thats cool but i lots all my money

  • yo dude u suck.. only kiddin u have the mk1 arcade machine, how can ya??!! nice 2 see other fans still playing that!

  • @SimplyPhenomenal7 Yeah, MK1 rocks. And so does my MK2. Need to replace that tube in the MK1, though. The blue gun is almost dead. Can't wait to get it up to par with the visual quality of the MK2's monitor.

  • @TortureBot haha yeah lol well good luck 2 ya m8 i just played mk 2 with my dad and bro, cant beat it!

  • @SimplyPhenomenal7 Can't beat it as in "defeat the game" or the game "can't be beat" (for fun, etc.)?

  • @TortureBot haha lol i guess i shud have watched out 4 that, cant beat it as in fun yh top game! fatalities on mk 2 r friggin hard tho, i was on it on my ps3, and i used 2 be pretty good but the arrows on the pad dnt seem to do it

  • @SimplyPhenomenal7 Never played it on any of the Playstation consoles, but I had several versions on other various consoles. As long as you have the CORRECT moves for the fatalities, I would think those arrows would make some fatalities easier, unless the fatality requires circular movements.

  • i just played this today at the movie theater it was so awesome

  • @crapola1234567 Wow. Cool to know a theater still wants to have this oldie set up for people to play. I first played it at a local McDonald's (with blood and fatalities OFF) then in it's full glory at the nearest Aladdin's Castle arcade at the mall. Still LOVE it!

  • Check out my MK1 machine that I just got, Nice condition like yours!

  • @fourtraxer Going to check out your vids now. Thanks.

  • looks awesome shape

  • @adidas1984x Yeah it's not too shabby...lol! I may end up having to replace the CRT tube, though. I did a cap kit to it and it didn't help. Then I bought a CRT rejuvenator/tester (vid coming soon), and it helped the red and green guns for the tube, but the blue seems beyond help. Now it looks much sharper but there's a greenish tint to everything since blue is so weak, lol!

  • @TortureBot keep us posted i wana see it its the cabinet im trying to find very rare to find one in such great shape or im trying to find a mk2 i got a ki2 cabinet i restored and mamed had a mk4 but got rid of it

  • @adidas1984x PM'ing you on some leads for a couple of MK1 cabs I came across.

  • very nice! I can't stop playing my MK2 arcade and now I'm looking for all the original cabs to buy... LOL!

  • Yeah, MK2 was my first cabinet. I have always been addicted to it since the first time I played it. I own that game on several home consoles and the pc. Always liked the pc port of the game the best. It was the most accurate to me at the time it was popular.

  • Very nice pickup!! I was looking at this one as it was close, but I just didn't have the room! Keep an eye out on my posts, I'll be posting vids of my new mint dedicated MK4 that I just got and my third machine (MK2 that was converted to an UMK3) very soon!

I'm also a HUGE MK fan and have enjoyed having a machine at home also! Cheers!

  • I will. Glad to hear from a fellow MK fan! Got to get my cap-kit ordered for this beast this weekend so I can brighten the monitor up a bit. Also need to order some new sticks and probably buttons.

  • Awesome. Congrats. I'm happy for you.

  • very nice all around. Happy you got a NICE MK1. looks excellent. Congrats.

  • Thanks man. Been wanting one for years, just like you. I used to get off work with a co-worker buddy of mine back in '92 and go by a car-wash to change a $20 and spend all afternoon pumping quarters into this machine. It was at a McDonald's and they had the blood and fatalities off! When we heard about fatalities, we immediately took a trip to the mall in the next city to get a glimpse, and the rest is history!
