  • her voice never faded. that's how you can tell she was an incredible force. God is truly amazing.

  • Let's also credit the composers: Ron Miller and Orlando Murden.

  • I wish we had more voices like her's in music...

  • She had sutch great talent to bad she died of drugs

  • Everyone quit the drama and sadness and tragedy etc. Lets except this video for what it is, wow Judy Garland singing Stevie Wonder!!!!!!!!

  • I wonder if I can love someone with this intensity. would be great if I could. Every time I see this video I find beauty of craziness. She looks like breaking into pieces next moment.

  • it really pisses me off to know that the "movie people" told her that she was FAT! yeah, okay! I would like to tell them that they're stupid...and thanks for giving in a hand to kill a BEAUTIFUL LEGEND!

  • @NFitalianGuy I agree wholeheartedly. When listing the reasons to live for -- or thinking of the things that have made my life a far, far better place than it might otherwise have been, so much so that life would be unimaginable without them -- Judy tops the list. She always will.

  • Judy died officially, according to the death certificate issued in London shortly after her death, from "accidental overdose from an incautious use" of her prescribed medication. The phenomenon is a common one (Judy had even warned Marilyn Monroe about it) when one is used to taking medication such as the sleeping tablets she was then using. One wakes up and forgets one has already taken a certain amount and takes more. Her system just gave way. NOT a suicide; that's important.

  • Perfect till the last ... yes the voice is worn, but this is spectacular so very near the end. Long Live Judy ... to h*** with the rest (Liza excepted, naturally).

  • She looks so fragile here! How she can have a powerful voice like that I do not know! Don't get me wrong but, when her time was up, I think she did see it coming. The drugs had taken over her life, but she had such an amazing life! Three beautiful children, more than 30 musicals! And a voice like an angel.

  • @DebsTasha45 she sure does,

  • Contrary to legeand, Judy did NOT die of an overdose. The official cause of death was cirrosis (sic) of the liver.

  • Her voice never lacked for soul or depth!

  • I get so tired of the "drugs and alcohol" comments. Why can't we just enjoy the memories? She had her demons, we all do.

  • Sadly she reminds me of Edith Piaf at the end of her life... Destroyed by drugs and alcohol...

  • Judy died June 22, 1969

  • Judy died 44 years ago, and even after all that time, she is still vividly remembered.

Her name will live on for many more years. She was a true star, despite her troubled life.

  • Only performer that makes me want to stand up from my computer and clap ....and cry at the same time.

  • Undoubtedly sung with Mickey Deans in mind, I always think.

  • bless her heart.. I cant believe nobody helped her.. my heart goes out to her... RIP Judy Garland... Your an angel in Gods army now.... Gods taking care of you now....

  • @mpcontreras01 What do you mean nobody helped her she would be the first person to tell you she had a happy life you want to know a tragedy!! Marilyn Monroe now she was a real tragedy yes Judy had a childlike vulnerability to her but Marilyn went through worse she was objectified by men since her childhood she went through so much her daughter Liza and Lorna would be the first to say when she made the Wizard of Oz the fun she had on that set ,Marilyn Monroe she went through heck.

  • @cinderelmo im talking about her drug addiction u idiot....

  • @mpcontreras01 Um well that aspect my dear is sad about her life indeed I am idiotic in that aspect for not realizing that and the idiot is me not you sorry my mistake her drug addiction was sad yes but its not that nobody helped her many people helped her read her biographies okay many stars gotten through their drug addictions what I meant was that this is a video of her singing why would you comment oh sad how no one helped her this is not a video on drug addiction.

  • @mpcontreras01 Yes you say I am an idiot you are right but um look like I said you comment on oh nobody helped her with her drug addiction her daughter Liza as well said she did not have an addiction to pills that "she was just tired like a flower that gives so much joy and beauty but then wilts away" that is what happened to Judy its was no one fault not even hers okay she had the help of the world so don't say no one helped her she was anything but tragic. Judy was human like you and I.

  • @mpcontreras01 And by you and I meaning that everyone has sadness in their lives rich poor famous not the saddest thing that happened to Judy was her father dying before the Wizard Of Oz came out in theaters, her sister dying of breast cancer those were her tragedies not her personal setbacks her Hollywood setbacks its like Judy said herself "I can live without money but I can't live without love".

  • @cinderelmo Sorry, but I disagree. The saddest part of Garland's life was the fact that she was 'born in a trunk', onstage at age TWO, so that she equated love with applause, and thus felt unworthy of anyone's love -- unless she was performing. The fact that MGM (and her mother) forced drugs on her when she was a teenager for the sole purpose of keeping her working non-stop, only reinforced her insecurities and inferiority complex.

  • @dannybex Well I agree with you that, that was a sad aspect of her life the fact that she not unlike Michael Jackson was the breadwinner of the family and I have to agree cause Judy's daughter Lorna and Judy herself said that and yes it was sad that MGM compared her looks to tall blonde blue eyed Lana Turner and she was 4'11 with brown hair yes I think that did cause a inferiority complex maybe but Judy herself did not like to be called a tragedy so as a loyal fan I will not call her one.

  • @cinderelmo Judy is dead, she doesn't give a damn how anyone describes her. You're astute in comparing her to Jackson, another incredibly tragic entertainer, if not even more so, although not nearly as talented.

And by the way, I speak as a loyal fan as well.

  • @dannybex Yes I know she was born in a vaudeville trunk yes but people like sympathy but not to be seen as weak and Judy said herself and her daughters Liza and Lorna here on YOUTUBE videos actually they have said that her mother was misunderstood and labeled a tragic songbird and as loyal fan to Ms. Garland I will respect her words and not label her a tragedy true fans and people that love her will not call her one despite whatever setbacks she endured in life Liz Taylor also had issues.

  • @cinderelmo The only thing I'll add here is that while both saw a side of their mother that the public didn't see, they perhaps were also protected from various realities by Garland that she didn't want them to see. And again, not the most objective sources for information.

Anyway, this is silly. We'll have to agree to disagree.

  • @dannybex Well will have to agree to disagree but I agree on the sadder aspects of her early years like when the head of MGM Louis B.Mayer forced her to undergo and abortion so technically Liza is her middle or second child, that was sad also when she had many mental breakdowns on set, suicide attempts , got fired from Annie Oakley and other films ,when she lost the Oscar for Star is Born that was sad .Well that ends our Judy Garland debate. Now Marilyn Monroe want to debate her she was tragic.

  • @dannybex Well Etta James just died today and her life was tragic as well her drug issues with heroin that was sad too.I'm pretty more than sure that Etta was influenced by Judy somehow and meet Liza, she was very soulful like Judy.

  • @dannybex I have to agree with you on some degree because to me personally and many people that love her would agree like in this video here you will see Judy's weight, is that she was worked too hard , that makes me mad because she was and is the hardest working person ever ,ever in that era in the MGM era harder worker than Gene Kelly etc. poor thing MGM was not that lovely to her but why isn't Liz Taylor a "tragedy" she also went through her stuff.

  • @cinderelmo She "worked too hard" because she had too -- again, she needed the applause because she equated that with love -- plus she needed the money because her managers defrauded her, and of course needed it to support her drug dependency. Comparing her to Taylor is like comparing apples to oranges. Taylor had health problems, but also was worth millions. Garland was virtually penniless for the last 7-8 years of her life, and often close to homeless. But I guess that isn't tragic!

  • @dannybex Oh yeah I just remembered Liz Taylor did have pill problems like Judy did, as a matter of fact she famously went to the Betty Ford center in the early 80s and yes had the same addiction to pills as Judy which was to sleeping pills and painkillers and Liza herself had a pill problem,Lorna on the other hand was the worst cause she did hard drugs like cocaine but Liza is her mother Judy she is her mother a stronger less vulnerable version of her mother and survived her addiction.

  • @cinderelmo With all due respect, this is getting ridiculous. No one's addiction is "the same" as someone else's. Taylor's prescription drug addictions were mainly due to her many injuries and surgeries over the years. Liza's drug problems have lasted far longer than Lorna's, and certainly included cocaine.

Anyway, this is about Garland, not the others. Also, have you ever heard of periods? They're little dots that go at the ends of sentences. :)

    Have a nice life.

  • @dannybex Last but not least I think she worked to hard and was the hardest worker ever at MGM and is underrated as actress but not as an singer .......that's why her daughter Liza Minnelli said" she was like a flower that gives so much life but then wilts away" she knew the truth but not the nonsense that was the Judy Garland myths about her happiness.

  • @cinderelmo I don't know where to start, but I guess I touched a raw nerve. Minelli and Luft aren't exactly the most objective sources, especially considering both are/were addicts themselves, with Minelli in denial for most of her life. Of course their mom was 'passionate', 'witty', had a terrific sense of humor (which others have noted) and was the greatest mother they could imagine. That doesn't negate the fact that her life overall was tragic. Cont...

  • @mpcontreras01 Judy was not a tragic person Marilyn was her tumultuous childhood ,Judy was not a vulnerable to let men take advantage of her like Marilyn did Judy was blessed to have children to love her Marilyn desperately wanted children and to be loved ,Marilyn she tried hard to be this sex symbol cause that's all she known all her life is that what men want not all men want that but she knew sex is what made the world go round now Marilyn was more of a tragedy,Judy was privileged.

  • Judy Garland..

    You can never

    ever go wrong

    there !!!!

    Judy was sensational !!!!

  • Judy Garland was magic like Michael Jackson magic they were both mythical elusive ,fragile sensitive make you cry really there was something about that that was very both childlike magical , allusive and elusive and had an aura about them both. Judy Garland was like Elvis or Sinatra or MJ and John Lennon in may ways she was very loved and talented. Judy Garland, simply magical.

  • I am sooo glad she did so many tv appearences in those last couple years--perhaps she sensed she wasn't going to be here much longer. In any case we have these wonderful videos!

  • I adore you Judy. Thank you for making my life more happier.

  • are you sure thats Judy garlond

  • The most expressive voice ever in popular music; her marriage of tone, volume and phrasing, are unequaled - there is no sign of tragedy here, just pure talent. This is why she lives on; not because of a sad life, there are many people who've experienced that, but for her God-given gifts that we still, and always will, enjoy.

  • @inmyguts Beautifully said! The thoughts of millions of her fans!!

  • Please everyone stop posting sad comments oh the tragedy blah blah come on people you think because Elvis is dead people oh he was a tragedy or to Marilyn Monroe anyone is going to post that no they are going to say that obviously no she was a beautiful women and Judy was too so stop posting sad comments just cherish the magic that was Judy Garland.

  • @cinderelmo Ditto!!

  • Brought tears to my eyes <3

  • @Vitreophilus Comparing him to her, he's a monotone singer. Judy's voice had much more depth and breadth than any singer we have today...

  • RIP Judy Garland.

  • If Judy didn't took those drugs :( I might still be able to see her today. Judy, whyy... but I still love you! and I will always love you!

  • @TheWiwiee you can thank Hollywood for that... especially MGM studios...

  • @TheWiwiee She was started on the drugs by MGM studios when she was just a teen-ager. People didn't think the drugs were dangerous then, and by the time they realized they were, Judy'd been hooked.

  • The year before she died RIP Judy Garland.

  • simply beautiful.... haunting, but beautiful

  • wow, this is the most depressing version of the song that i have ever heard!

I did NOT see that coming!Lol

  • Makes me cry...so beautiful! She touches every heart still today!

  • Judy Garland was one of the

    best ever..

Judy could be the best ever..

    it could be argued..

Judy was a doll and just marvelous !!!

Just a great shame she left us

    at such a young age...

    Judy is greatly missed !!!

  • she should have posed for playboy at this age to earn extre money

  • @SuperBnichols R u nuts this is Judy Garland we are talking about a classy lady not LIndsay Lohan who posed for playboy for some extra dough r u nuts or high.

  • what a star! rest in peace, judy. we wont forget!

  • wow wow wow... one of the dames!!!! fabulous!!!

  • Judy wonderful until the end!

  • I can honestly say that if I am ever asked before I die, what I will miss most once I am gone, I will answer, the joy of listening to Judy Garland sing. This woman has touch every part of my soul.. Great clip!

  • @NFitalianGuy really? do u mean it or just sayin it?

  • Look at how fragile she is hear, it's like if you touch her, she'll break! But she still has that wonderful voice!!

  • Judy Garland is the definition of the word STAR.

  • Seeing the late date, I wasn't expecting much of this performance... what a surprise therefore to see how focused and well-supported the tone is, especially in the difficult quiet register. Wonderful!

  • with a tear streaming down my cheek, I remember Judy when..... Thank you for posting

  • I am crying while watching this--she gave so much of her self as she sang--like no other performer. Taken from us too soon--thank good ness we have records of the luminous Judy here. There will never be another!!

  • Her voice was so beautiful, but her face looks swollen. God Bless her.-

  • AMAZING! simply AMAZING! I'm sure there were millions that needed her then, & we still do today. What a shame the ones closest, sucked the happiness, joy and ultimately life out of this Beautiful, Beautiful Woman..

  • Fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • JUDY was actually in better voice at this point than she had been in previous years. Often in 1966-67 she struggled through songs but here her voice is open and full. She didn't look her best here, but vocally I think she did well on The Mike Douglas Show - and I remember watching this as a little boy.

  • she still was so beautiful here, even though the end was near. i deeply love her!

  • @Michaelbos

Then why did "God" let her suffer for so long?? Why did "God" reward all those that used her? And don't give that "God was testing her" BS.

You religious nutjobs really are disgusting hipocrites with glued-on morals you switch on and off depending on whatever suits your needs and beliefs at the moment.

And if you believe in "God" then why do you need the "I hope...". Doesn't all you "noble believers" all get rewarded in paradise?? Then why "hope"?

    Fool.

    And flagged too.

  • @McLarenMercedes Wow, someone hopes that God is taking care of her and you attack them? You don't believe - that's your right - but hardly a reason to so vicously attack such an innocuous statement. @Michaelbos - I voted you up.

  • @McLarenMercedes That was totally uncalled for. You are entitled to your opinion, but it is not necessary to be so ugly. I'm definitely voting you down.

  • Wow. That was brilliant. Judy Garland could have literally been a rock star had she been born into a different time.

  • Best lyric interpreter ever. Ever.

  • Her poor body was ao broken down by 1968. The fact that she was still able to perform like this is truly amazing.

  • @yellowtents

Do you really think this is lip-syncing? You should not comment on things you don't know anything about. That is absurd.

  • . . . amazing!

  • Amazing as always!!! Thanks!

  • She gave us so much and sadly, for the most part, she herself was largely taken time and time again.

  • It like every song she sings its hers!!! Amazing!

  • She can't do anything but give 100% to her audience. She doesn't know anything else. Even when she wasn't in good voice or was sick. We'll never see/hear anyone like her again.

  • beautiful!

  • I love to hear her sing! She has true talent!

  • Beautiful!!

  • Judy & piano equal a stunning performance from Garland...had someone at this point in her life given her a major recording contract, top arranger and orchestra to tour with, the results would have been amazing...Judy got no support for a number of years but still came through and was great...Bravo Judy, you gave more than you got in return...

  • @bradly2007 I agree about the recording contract, arranger and orchestra. But I think to have saved Judy would have been to take her out of the concert grind for a couple of years. But as she had no money she...had to go on singing.

  • scarey!

  • Shows how pathetic todays performers are.

  • I have been watching this video almost non stop for the past four days. It hasn't gotten old yet.

  • What people should realize is that she was a very ill woman at this point. The fact that she was able to produce such an amazing performance is absolutely astounding. Drug addiction is a real disease. She should be awarded the same respect as a person who had cancer or something similar.

  • so much BS has been written about Judy Garland by those who "claim to know her", but really didnt. Lorna Luft said it best..to paraphrase her words..she could tell who really did not know her mother when they described her as tragic, or other similar words. Though Garland had tragedy in her life (dont we all at some point), she was far from tragic. This video kills the other myth that Judy had no voice after 1964.

  • Envelhecida, frágil, magra, sofrida, triste... no entanto, cantava desta maneira! Judy, quem me dera que tudo e, principalmente, a tua morte, não tivesse passado de um sonho mau, e que o resto da tua vida tivesse sido pleno de felicidade, conforto, amor e reconhecimento.

  • Still. not enough adj. to discribe this thrower of lightning bolts.

  • I can't stop crying. The greatest singer who ever lived. Her talent will never be matched.

  • MArvellous performance. And how wonderful to see her still getting such joy out of performing

  • Oh my goodness, she still had it in these performances. Priceless cultural treasure these clips. Must be preserved for posterity. Made me cry.

  • No one else should ever sing this song again. It's done.

  • @monroenorma Great comment! Judy is the only person who could sing another performer's hit song and make it her own, without the listener thinking its an imitation.I love this much more than the Stevie Wonder version. She puts so much heart and soul into her songs. She was in love at this time with Mickey Deans so she was really singing from her heart. Judy was an original it's a shame no one can come close, not even Liza or Lorna have their mother's touch.

  • @monroenorma Unless maybe Janis comes back for a day. :)

  • @monroenorma I love Judy & I love Stevie too! I love both versions

  • This video shows that even in 1968 Judy's voice was still in tact. Her breath control, the smoothness of her sound, her unmatched sensitivity, her moment-to-moment acting, and the incredible drama that she brings to the song at the end are a master class in singing.

  • @showtunestarpower I like your comment here. Judy's performances really are masterclasses in the genre of a singing style that is about coveying emotions, which are evoked within the audience. Judy, I think, used emotional intelligence in her interpretation of (particularly) ballads. She sang as if she was reflecting on every word she sang; understanding the true meaning of the lyrics. Even when her voice sometimes let her down, her emotional integrity is always intact.

  • @hirchik You have a great understanding of Garland's artistry. Thanks for "commenting on my comment." One of my favorite Garland power ballads, added to her repertoire in the last decade, is NEVER WILL I MARRY.

  • @showtunestarpower You just wrote all that a singer needs to be great!! And Judy had it in spades!! How we miss her!

  • Judy you don't look well

  • @henrygrove100 What a truly asinine comment!!

  • Very good . . . given the point in time actually impressive. Thank You for posting this.

  • oh judy, i wish you had someone like that for once in your life. poor girl... i always loved her but recently found out how tragic her life really was... rip angel

  • @username22090 The idea of referring to Judy's life as "tragic" has kind of passed its sell-by date. It has become a cliche, a tired, thoughtless and somewhat lazy way of describing this artist's personal struggles. She was a human being; we ALL have personal problems. Judy's life was for all to see and (still to this day) commented on by 'armchair commentators' whose own lives go by (in the main) without much ado; making no significant impression as a legacy to the world. Judy accomplished.

  • @hirchik kind of pretentious response.... i didn't mean it that way. i just have always loved judy garland and just recently discovered more about her life that made me look at her in a different light. it was absolutely no disrespect. i agree she is accomplished... relax

  • @username22090 ah,have to get use to the Judy fans who think only they "get" Judy Garland. And if you don't repeat their party line, then they will strike you down with their almighty sword. Oh, and btw, they never relax. ; )

  • @luftloft and what exactly are U saying????? And do not pretend to be a family memeber unless u sare one, OK?!!

  • @werentthosethedays - I'm not a member of Judy Garland's family and never said I was. What I am saying is that some Judy fans are easily offended and angered and lash out at people with different opinions. I hope that is clear now.

  • i her last days resemble Billy Holliday, i dunno not so effected

  • I think Judy was in Philadelphia for a concert when she went to appear on this show, which was filmed in Philly. With less than a year to live, she still sounded fine.

  • I love Judy so much!

  • Utterly beautiful
